The invention relates to a method for determining the sedimentation rate in suspensions. Accurate knowledge of the rate of sedimentation in the collective sinking of particles under the influence of gravity plays a dominant role in many technical problems. Due to manifold factors influencing the seemingly elementary process of sedimentation, there are limits to purely computational treatment. Precise knowledge about sedimentation rates is required for the sludge and crystallization clarification technology, for apparatus development work for crystallizers, classifiers, clarifiers, solvers and for the testing of clarifying and clarifying auxiliaries.
In accordance with the state of the art, the sedimentation rate has hitherto been determined almost exclusively in the so-called glass standard experiment. In this case, the assumed separation horizon between turbidity and clarified liquid is observed when passing through certain height marks and registered as a function of time. As a result, the measuring method is subject to a strong subjective dependence by the observer.
For the detection of the sludge height in a measuring vessel, a direct photoelectric measurement by transmitted light method is recommended. To measure the sludge height, only the information light-dark is required.
A light source radiates through the sample in the measuring vessel onto a photosensitive element. A corresponding signal when the separation horizon between sludge and supernatant solution is reached is displayed with a measuring instrument.
Such a method is due to scattering, contamination of the measuring vessel and uneven turbidity of the supernatant solution due to different clarification, very inaccurate.
·Another possibility is an indirect measuring method. A light source radiates through a sample. A measuring element detects the cut-off between solid and supernatant solution. In case of deviations of the position of the measuring element from this limit, a signal is applied to the control amplifier, amplified and zugleitet as a command to the engine. By appropriately rotating the threaded spindle coupled to the motor, the measuring element rigidly coupled to a spindle nut tracks the measured value of "solid height." The spindle nut is coupled to a remote encoder which converts the height value into an equivalent electrical quantity and feeds it to the recorder With this indirect measurement method, the sedimentation velocity can be measured and recorded in addition to the sludge height, but it is disadvantageous that the apparatus construction and the electrical part of the apparatus are quite extensive.
The aim of the present invention is to increase the accuracy of the conventional measurement method, to eliminate the subjective influence by the observer and to make the apparatus design of the device simple.
Darlegung des Wesens der Erfindung -Explanation of the essence of the invention
The application of the solution found takes place in a so-called Sedimeritätsmeßgerät. The operation of the Sedimentationsmeßgerätes based on the photoelectric scanning of the separation horizon in a glass jar. In a perpendicular to the vessel wall mounted receiver plate phototransistors are arranged at certain intervals. The photocurrent emitted by each phototransistor in dependence on the gray value of the turbidity passes as a voltage value to the input of a comparator via a setting regulator with which the sensitivity can be changed. With the adjustable reference voltage for all comparators on a potentiometer, the switching point of the comparators, which depends on the gray value of the turbidity, is set.
For an analog display of the sedimentation process, each switching stage provides a specific output current via a constant current source. The registration of the Sedimantationsvorganges done with a motor compensator.
The invention will be explained in more detail in the following embodiment and a drawing. The light from a radiation source 1 passes, parallelized by a double slit 2, to the pulp in the thermostattable glass 3.And all solid particles are suspended by means of a stirrer bar, less light reaches the phototransistors 4. When the clarification process begins, the light signals are detected opto-electronically in stages. In the amplifier part 5, the sensitivity can be adjusted with a gray value switch of the turbidity to be examined. The signals are recorded by a motor commutator 6 as a line recorder.
