The foam produced in this way has a uniform cell structure.
Description
A method of extruding a resin foam is known, wherein the resin is combined with a powdery fine cell size control additive prior to introduction into an extruder, and the cell size control additive is added to a stream of the downflowing solid polystyrene resin particles at a position immediately adjacent to Extruder input port for the resin-additive mixture is introduced (DE-OS 2605167).
This method has disadvantages when the additive used to control the cell size consists of several components which react with one another to form gases. The continuous and simultaneous entry of these components already reacts in the area of the filling shaft. This results in an uncontrolled reduction of the nuclei for cell formation, resulting in a relatively non-uniform foam structure.
The aim of the invention is a thermoplastic foam with improved uniformity of the foam structure.
The object of the invention is a process for the production of extruded thermoplastic foam, in which a reduction of nuclei for cell formation is greatly reduced or excluded.
This object is achieved by a process for the production of thermoplastic foams by extrusion of a thermoplastic material, preferably in granular form, with a nucleating agent consisting of at least two components which react with one another to form a gas and a physical blowing agent which is incorporated into the thermoplastic melt is metered in, according to the invention, the two components of the nucleating introduced sequentially in intermittent discharge together with the granules and separated from each other by granules only in the extruder discharge, these mixtures melted separately, added a physical blowing agent and then mixed all components together and extruded. The time interval of the successive intermittent discharges of the components of the nucleating agent should correspond approximately to the time of one to three revolutions of the extruder screw. Polyolefins, polystyrenes or PVCs are preferably used as the thermoplastic material, and the nucleating agents used are advantageously those of the components citric acid and sodium bicarbonate The effect of the nucleating agent on the one hand is carried out better on the one hand, and on the other hand the nucleation is more uniform Components of the nucleating agent in the mixing of the same and together with the physical leavening unfold an improved germination effect by the inventive method, a uniform cell structure of the foam is achieved.
A high-pressure polyethylene granules having a melt index of 6.7 g / 10 min and a density of 0.918 g / cm 3 are continuously fed to the feed chute of an extruder via a metering chute; hourly 100kg. The speed of rotation of the screw is 20 rpm.
Über zwei voneinander unabhängige Dosiergeräte werden direkt in den Einfüllschacht stündlich 60g Zitronensäure und 240g Natriumbikarbonat abgeschüttet.60 g of citric acid and 240 g of sodium bicarbonate are poured off hourly into the feed chute via two independent dosing units.
1 gThe citric acid is discharged twice per minute, at 15s and 45s intervals, and the sodium bicarbonate is discharged four times per minute, at 7.5 s, 22.5 s, 37.5 s and 52.5 s, respectively. The duration of the discharge is 5s for citric acid and 2s for sodium bicarbonate. 0.5g of citric acid or 1 g
Sodium bicarbonate metered into the extruder. The nucleating components are separately combined and mixed together with the polyethylene granules. Between the discharges of the individual components of the nucleating agent with granules, the supply of pure granules is carried out in the extruder. After melting, a mixture of fluorine-chlorine hydrocarbons is metered into the extruder in a zone of reduced pressure. The following extruder zone is designed as a mixing section. Here, a back-mixing of the polyethylene melt of individual flights takes place and thereby the mixing of the blowing agent. The extrusion takes place in a manner known per se. The foam has a uniform fine cell foam structure even over extended periods of production. With conventional dosing of the components of the nucleating agent, the size of the foam cells changes from extremely fine-pored to relatively coarsely porous.
