Abstract

A detergent compsn. having enhanced sudsing comprises 5-65 wt. % of (a) 5-95 wt. % of anionic sulphate or sulphonate surfactant(s); and (b) 5-95 wt. % of polyhydroxy fatty acid amide(s) of formula R2-C(O)-n-(R1)Z (I); and the compsn. also comprises 1-20 wt. % of a suds enhancing agent selected from amine oxides; betaines, sulphanes, nonionic cpds. selected from polyethylene, polypropylene and polybutylene oxide condensates of alkyl phenols, the alkyl ethoxylate condensation prods. of aliphatic alcohols with ethylene oxide, the condensation prods. of ethylene oxide with a hydrophobic base formed by the condensation of propylene oxide with propylene glycol, the condensation prod. of ethylene oxide with the prod. resulting from the reaction of propylene oxide and ethylenediamine, alkyl polysaccharide and/or fatty acid amides. In (I), R1 = H, 1-4C hydrocarbyl, 2-hydroxyethyl and/or 2-hydroxypropyl; R2 = 5-13C hydrocarbyl; Z = polyhydroxyhydrocarbyl having linear hydrocarbyl chain with at least 3-OH gps. directly connected to the chain or its alkoxylated deriv. - The compsn. is in the form of a liq. and comprises 10-50 wt. % of the surfactant mixt. and 90-50 wt. % of a liq. carrier esp. water or a mixt. of water and 1-4C alcohol. The compsn. further comprises one or more additional anionic or nonionic surfactants. The suds enhancing agent is selected from 10-18C alkyl dimethyl amine oxide, 10-18C acyl amide alkyl dimethyl amine oxide, a betaine, a sulphane, the condensation prod. of an aliphatic alcohol with ethylene oxide and/or an alkylpolysaccharide. The compsn. is substantially free of suds-suppressing amts. of 14C and higher fatty acids.
