Abstract
Description
Oblast technikyTechnical field
Vynález se týká způsobu přípravy karbidu boru v práškovém stavu. The invention relates to a process for the preparation of boron carbide in powder form.
Dosavadní stav technikyBACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Vzhledem k existenci tří rozdílných krystalochemických fází bývá navíc komerční produkt nehomogenní a během vysokoteplotní syntézy často silně znečištěný. Spis JP 62202811 popisuje způsob výroby jemného práškového karbidu boru z kyseliny borité, močoviny a uhlíkatých sloučenin ohřevem na 1700 až 2000 °C. Tento proces předpokládá provádění za sníženého tlaku.Boron carbide - the third hardest industrially manufactured substance to be used in the nuclear power industry, as an abrasive or as a reactant in boride production and special non-oxide armored ceramics is prepared by high-temperature synthesis, previously predominantly by coke boron oxide reduction in an electric furnace. Moreover, due to the existence of three different crystallochemical phases, the commercial product is often inhomogeneous and often heavily contaminated during high temperature synthesis. JP 62202811 describes a process for producing fine powdered boron carbide from boric acid, urea and carbon compounds by heating to 1700 to 2000 ° C. This process assumes operation under reduced pressure.
A more preferred method for energy consumption is to use plasma torches to heat the precursor, for example, the preparation of spheroid metal carbides is disclosed in JP 2003049201. The desired particle size and shape is achieved by repeated heating. The use of a plasma torch is also mentioned in CN 1445164, but here it is the preparation of silicon carbide.
Podstata vynálezuSUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Jednotlivá zrna prášku karbidu boru připravená touto metodou mají sferoidní tvar bez ostrých hran a lomových ploch. The process for the preparation of the boron carbide according to the invention is characterized in that the powdered free-flowing precursors formed of adducts of boric acid, urea and carbonaceous compounds, preferably monosaccharide, are fed to a plasma stream where they are heated to the synthesis temperature starting at 1600 The temperature of the flowing powder product is further increased continuously above the melting point of boron carbide, which melts at 2450 ° C or 2373 ° C in eutectic with carbon. The molten flying boron carbide droplets are cooled upon impact into a liquid nitrogen collection vessel. Precursors for this synthesis are adducts of boric acid with urea and the addition of a carbonaceous compound, preferably a monosaccharide, such as sucrose. These precursors can be very easily crushed by a powder, which can be introduced into a thermal plasma stream where B 4 C synthesis occurs by means of a pneumatic feeder. The optimum size of the powder grains of the precursor (granulometric fraction) is chosen to match the design capabilities of the feeder used. The individual grains of boron carbide powder prepared by this method have a spheroid shape without sharp edges and fracture surfaces.
Podmínkou přípravy je zamezení oxidace produktu, čehož lze dosáhnout buď umístěním generátoru plazmatu do hermetické kabiny, nebo přiváděním produktu do chladicí kapaliny, nebo obklopením proudu plazmatu s produktem ochranným plynem (tzv. shrowding), nebo použitím více plazmových hořáků současně uspořádaných paralelně tak, aby prekurzor mohl být podáván středem plamene tvořeného plazmatem. The precondition for preparation is to avoid oxidation of the product, which can be achieved either by placing the plasma generator in a hermetic enclosure, or by supplying the product to a coolant, or by surrounding the plasma stream with the product with a shielding gas (shrowding) or using multiple plasma torches simultaneously. the precursor could be administered through the center of the plasma flame.
The process of the invention was carried out using a WSP®500 plasma generator which achieves a plasma temperature of up to 30,000 K, allowing the radicals of most selected boron precursors to be activated along with carbon and to monitor recombination processes at gradual or extremely rapid temperature changes. In the peripheral part of the plasma generator are suitable conditions for continuous plasmachemical synthesis of boron carbide of high purity, low granulometry and spheroid shape. The advantage of the described solution is especially closed cycle and ecological safety.
The mixture prepared by mixing boric acid, urea and sucrose in a stoichiometric ratio of 2: 1: 0.5 is milled and homogenized in a rotary homogenizer and then heated to 200-400 ° C in the retort. After degassing, the product is pulverized. After crushing, a granulometric fraction is selected on the sieves, the size of which is chosen to match the design capabilities of the feeder used to deliver the powder to the plasma stream. For the used WSP® PAL 160 with a power input of 160 kW and a feeder inlet nozzle diameter of 3 mm, the optimum powder grain size is +32 - 60 µm, in other words the granulometric fraction defined by sieves with a mesh size of 32 to 60 µm. The powder precursor thus prepared is introduced into the plasma stream generated in the WSP using an inert gaseous carrier (argon, nitrogen) or gaseous hydrocarbons 15 (eg ethine). Upon passing the powder precursor through the plasma stream, a chemical reaction occurs to form boron carbide, which is trapped in the trap. The trap consists of an open container containing liquid nitrogen, whose vapors simultaneously create a protective atmosphere for the flying particles of boron carbide produced. The boron carbide particles thus prepared have a spherical shape, partially deformed by the impact of the melt on the walls of the trap vessel. The gaseous products of the plasma pre-cursor reaction, containing mainly carbon and nitrogen oxides, are discharged to the fume hood.
Další zpracování práškového prekurzoru v plazmovém generátoru WSP pak bylo stejné jako v příkladu 1.Aqueous solutions of boric acid, urea and sucrose were prepared and, after mixing, evaporated to dryness. Further, the evaporator was mechanically crushed and heated to a temperature of up to 600 ° C until fumes evolution was complete. The product was then milled in a planetary mill and screened granulometrically to a 32-60 µm fraction. Further processing of the powder precursor in the plasma WSP generator was then the same as in Example 1.
In order to increase the flowability of the precursor, 10% by weight of hexagonal boron nitride powder was added to the solution of boric acid and sacharose. Due to the need to subsequently carbide the added boron nitride, the proportion of the carbonaceous compound was increased by a stoichiometric amount corresponding to the nitride addition. Carbidation of boron nitride occurs from 2000 ° C. The resulting suspension was evaporated to dryness and treated as in case 2.
Příklad 4Example 4
V rozprašovací sušárně připravený práškový sferoidní porézní oxid hlinitý byl vsypán do vroucího nasyceného roztoku kyseliny borité a sacharózy bez přídavku močoviny. V pórech a na povrchu aluminy se vytvořil karbid boru B4C a jako vedlejší produkt borid hliníku A1B]O.The spheroidal porous alumina powder prepared in a spray dryer was poured into a boiling saturated solution of boric acid and sucrose without the addition of urea. After evaporation to 45 in a microwave oven, the semi-product was separated by rotation in a rotary homogenizer, and after sorting the granulometric fraction corresponding to the original spheroidal alumina size, it was heated in a plasma stream and captured as free flying particles at 100 cm from the plasma generator. Deň: 32 ° C. Boron carbide B 4 C was formed in the pores and on the alumina surface and aluminum boride A1B 10 O was formed as a by-product.
