Klarinety jsou tvořeny hubičkou, opatřenou plátkem, vyrobeným zpravidla ze dřeva a rozechvívaným proudem vzduchu z úst hudebníka. Hubička je nasunuta do soudku, jehož jemným povytažením lze dosáhnout snížení tónu klarinetu. Soudek je nasouván na horní část, která je při hraní ovládána většinou levou rukou a je nasouvána do spodní části, která je při hraní většinou ovládána pravou rukou. Na spodní část je nasunut ozvučník, který zlepšuje zvuk hlubokých tónů. Horní a spodní část jsou vyrobeny z granadilového, cocobolového nebo zimostrázového dřeva, jehož vlákna jsou uspořádána v axiálním směru těla nástroje, ve kterém jsou provedeny tónové otvory. V tomto příkladu provedení je klarinet vyroben z granadilového dřeva a je tvořen hubičkou, nasouvanou do soudku, který je nasunut na horní část 1 klarinetu, dále nasunutou na spodní část klarinetu s nasunutým ozvučníkem. Horní část 1 a spodní část klarinetu jsou opatřeny tónovými otvory 2, opatřenými vložkami 3 z hruškového dřeva. Na výrobu vložky 3 se však zpravidla používá také dřevo granadilové, palisandrové, mopavitové, růžové nebo cocobolové. Podstata je v tom, že dřevo této vložky 3 je odlišné od dřeva tělesa nástroje, tudíž také od dřeva horní části 1 a spodní části klarinetu a vlákna dřeva vložky 3 probíhají příčně k vláknům těchto částí. Tudíž vlákna dřeva vložky 3 probíhají příčně proti souose probíhajícím vláknům horní části 1 a spodní části klarinetu.
