Abstract

la presente invención se relaciona con la rama de la fruticultura, el objetivo que se perseguía era el de la obtención de una variedad cítrica de fácil pelado, que alcance una buena coloración del fruto, calidad interna y productiva. El tangor "Valentina" se obtuvo por el cruce de la mandarina "Clementina" (Citrus reticulata Blanco) x naranja "Hamlin" (Citrus sinensis (L) Osb.), realizado en 1983, del que resultó una progenie de 32 híbridos que se injertaron sobre Citrus macrophylla Wuester y se plantó en un bloque de selección en 1984. Los primeros frutos se produjeron en 1989 y a partir de las características de estos, se seleccionó un híbrido que se identificó como H-13-6 y posteriormente se denominó "Valentina". En 1994 se plantó en un ensayo comparativo para su estudio, donde se pudo constatar que la selección denominada "Valentina" proporciona árboles de vigor medio, de copa más alta, medianamente productivos, con frutos de muy buena calidad interna, de corteza que alcanza una coloración anaranjada, de fácil pelado y que sus semillas son monoembriónicas, lo que contribuye a aumentar el fondo de germoplasma con esta característica, útil para el desarrollo de futuras campanas de hibridaciones.
