Abstract

The connection arrangement concerns a fast and precise voltage-to-frequency converter. The principle of the solution consists in the fact that the input voltage is converted by voltage converter (2) to current and this current charges the capacitor (5). The voltage on the capacitor (5) is monitored by comparator (7) that is flipped after having reached the comparison level thus preparing the timing circuit (9) for the operation. The timing circuit (9) will be activated only after arrival of the selected signal edge of reference frequency, which is brought to clock input of this circuit. The timing circuit (9) generates an impulse of exact wavelength derived from reference frequency signal generated in the reference frequency power supply (10). During the impulse duration the electronic switch (4) is switched on and the capacitor (5) is discharged by reference current form the reference current supply (3). The whole process is constantly repeated and the frequency of impulses on the timing circuit (9) output is proportional to the input voltage. The connection arrangement can be generally applied in measuring and instrumentation technology, for example in digital voltmeters and ampere meters of higher class of preciseness. It can also be used in digital spectral analysers or correlators working with interconversion of input signal to frequency.<IMAGE>
