Abstract

An electromagnet control apparatus, for controlling regulating members in a knitting machine for example, has an electromagnet coil 7 connected in series with a capacitor 8. Current to the coil is switched on and off by logical "1" and "0" signals applied to input E. These logic signals are fed through an optocoupler 2,16. At switch on, transistor 6 is rendered conductive so that current flows from a single source UB to the capacitor 8 and the coil 7. A current pulse is developed through the coil 7 to actuate the electromagnet. As the capacitor 8 becomes charged, the current settles to a steady lower value passing through resistor 9 for holding the electromagnet. At switch off, transistor 6 is switched off and transistor 11 is switched on to discharge the capacitor 8 and produce a current pulse through the coil 7 in opposite direction, to destroy remanance in the coil. <IMAGE>
