Abstract

The method comprises the steps of introducing a palm agro-residue selected from a group consisting of separator sludge and decanter cake as a starting material; subjecting the starting material to a pre-treatment stage, followed by extraction with a solvent to give an extracted flour and a solvent extract; separate the solvent extract from the extracted flour; and removing the solvent, followed by precipitation to give a residue fraction comprising lecithin having a phospholipid content of not less than 20%, more preferably, not less than 35%.
