(b) a microfibrillation step in the treatment of a non-microfibrillar cellulose derived to produce a cellulose derived microfibrillar; or (c) a step of microfibrillation and derivation of a non-microfibrillar cellulose substantially simultaneously, wherein said derived microfibrillar cellulose is derived to comprise a substituent that provides cationic charge, even more where said derived microfibrillary cellulose is capable of forming a gel in water in a concentration of less than 1%.
