Abstract
Conventional fermentation systems basically suffer from three problems: Low efficiencies or productivity of fermentation, low concentrations of ethanol produced that increase the costs of its separation and purification, and high flows of contaminated water or stillage. The present invention is based on the integration of a membrane system to a fermentation system without bleeding from the fermenter in a process that can operate continuously or semi-continuously. This membrane has the ability to remove ethanol and all the other inhibiting components that are generated while at the same time a second membrane can be used to retain and / or remove biomass according to the characteristics of the microorganisms used. In continuous operation the fermenter can be fed with high concentrations of substrate.
