Moreover, the distance of the up-and-down movement of the auxiliary wheel 113 is smaller than the radius of the auxiliary wheel 113, after the cleaning roller 111 crosses the protrusion to-be-cleaned surface, the auxiliary wheel 113 can be contacted with the protrusion to-be-cleaned surface, and the auxiliary wheel 113 can not be completely pressed into the machine body 11, so that the front part of the machine body 11 can cross the protrusion, and then the cleaning roller 111 is contacted with the to-be-cleaned surface again, thereby effectively avoiding the situation that the surface cleaning device can be clamped by the protrusion higher than the bottom surface of the machine body 11 to-be-cleaned surface.

4. A surface cleaning apparatus as claimed in claim 2, characterised in that the axial travel of the auxiliary wheel is greater than the axial travel of the support wheel.
5. A surface cleaning apparatus as claimed in claim 4, characterised in that the auxiliary wheel has an axial travel in the range 1 to 8 mm.

A surface cleaning apparatus as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5, characterised in that the ratio between the area enclosed by a line connecting the contact points of the support wheels, the auxiliary wheels and the surface to be cleaned and the projected area of the body on the surface to be cleaned is from 1/5 to 1/2.

A surface cleaning apparatus as claimed in claim 6, characterised in that the pattern defined by the lines joining the points of contact of the support wheels and the auxiliary wheels with the surface to be cleaned is an isosceles trapezium having sides angled from the base at an angle in the range 60 ° to 80 °.
8. A surface cleaning apparatus as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5, characterised in that two of the auxiliary wheels are located on a line connecting the two support wheels to the ends of the cleaning roller.
9. A surface cleaning apparatus as claimed in claim 3, characterised in that the ratio of the distance between the axis of the auxiliary wheel and the front edge of the housing to the length of the housing in the fore-and-aft direction is in the range 1/5 to 2/5.

A surface cleaning apparatus as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that the body is provided with a wiper strip at the rear side of the cleaning roller and a detachably connected plate member, the wiper strip and the auxiliary wheel being provided on the plate member such that the wiper strip, the auxiliary wheel and the plate member are mounted on the body as a complete unit.
