Technical Field
The present invention relates to a dual arm tensioner, particularly for use in an internal combustion engine drive system having a generator-motor unit.
Background
In order to improve the fuel consumption and emissions of engines, engines with starter-generator units have been developed. In such engines, the starter-generator unit, when started, acts as a starter motor to restart the engine; once the engine is started, the starter-generator unit may act as a generator to recharge the battery.
The starter-generator unit is mechanically coupled to the crankshaft of the engine through an endless drive, such as a belt or chain. The endless drive is vibrated by the influence of the system, in particular when the starter-generator unit switches function between starter and generator, in which case the tight side and the slack side of the endless drive are angularly interchanged, and therefore tensioners have been developed to deal with the vibrations of the endless drive with the starter-generator unit.
