目前，市场上杯(碗)类食品包装常见为纸杯包装和塑料包装。纸杯(碗)硬度高，印刷精美，整体档次高，但存在易渗漏等问题；塑杯(碗)不渗漏，但易变形，印刷的图案、文字等效果差，整体档次较低。也有纸质杯体与塑料杯体结合成的纸塑杯，但是采用胶水粘合，导致存在诸如易脱落、所用胶水存在安全隐患等问题。而且纸塑杯大都不透明，消费者无法通过外部直接观察到内容物，无法为购买决策做参考。也有诸如杯体侧面直接开窗、杯体侧面易撕开窗等设计，但这类设计一方面会破坏杯体的强度，另一方面增加了纸塑杯制作工艺，进而导致成本增加，此外杯体侧面开窗影响整个包装的美观。
