起重机的底座一般都会设置活动支腿。在起重机工作时，支腿打开，支承在地面，可以增加起重机的稳定性。而当起重机在路上行驶时，支腿架是不允许伸出的，否则可能导致严重的事故。为了防止起重机的活动支腿架意外伸出，必须设置一种安全装置。
