Abstract
本发明提供一种通过减少源极驱动器的最后级所具有的放大器的驱动区域,从而可以减少液晶显示装置的消耗功率的液晶显示装置的源极驱动器驱动方法。本发明在源极驱动器的待机状态下,将所述源极驱动器的输出级与所述多个伽马基准电压中、具有任意的电平的伽马基准电压连接,使所述输出级具有一定的电平。在所述待机状态下,在下一帧的显示数据具有正区域的电压电平的情况下,将所述源极驱动器的输出级与具有正区域的中间电平的所述基准电压连接,在所述待机状态下,下一帧的显示数据具有负区域的电压电平的情况下,将所述源极驱动器的输出级与具有负区域的中间电平的所述伽马基准电压连接。
Description
技术领域
本发明涉及液晶显示装置的源极驱动器驱动方法,更详细地说,涉及通过减少源极驱动器的最后级所具有的放大器的驱动区域,从而可以减少液晶显示装置的消耗功率的液晶显示装置的源极驱动器驱动方法。
背景技术
一般地,液晶显示装置在由源极驱动器驱动的多个数据线和由栅极驱动器驱动的多个扫描线之间以矩阵结构分别配置像素而构成一个液晶面板。
这样的液晶显示装置在栅极驱动器动作而所述扫描线为有效(active)状态期间,通过数据线将根据显示数据的电荷对各个像素上的液晶单元进行充电而使各个像素发光。
与此相关联,现有的源极驱动器接收从定时控制装置提供的RGB数据并存储为显示数据,然后,使用根据灰度级别的伽马基准电压(GMA)对各个显示数据赋予电压值。这样,由源极驱动器生成的显示数据根据输入源极驱动器的极性信号(POL),对于每一帧以相反极性施加到液晶单元。
如前所述,现有的源极驱动器在对液晶单元施加显示数据中,为了减少消耗功率而使用CS(Charge Sharing,电荷分担)模式。
图1图示用于说明现有的源极驱动器所使用的CS模式的波形图。
如图所示,CS模式在源极驱动器的实际的输出时间结束之后,到下一个显示数据的输出时间前为止的待机状态(a)中,将输出电平维持在液晶驱动电压(AVDD)和接地(GND)电平的中间电平。从而,从源极驱动器输出的显示数据电平变换为正(a)或负区域(B)时,减小电压电平的变换宽度,由此,也可以减少消耗功率。
但是,最近,对源极驱动器应用了CS模式的现有的技术的消耗功率减少程度不能完全满足消费者要求的液晶显示装置的消耗功率减少要求。
发明内容
从而,本发明是为了解决如前所述的现有技术内在的问题而提出的,其目的在于提供一种在源极驱动器的待机状态时,对电压电平进行调节,并输出显示数据时,通过减少电压电平的变换宽度,可以使液晶显示装置的消耗功率最小化的液晶显示装置的源极驱动器驱动方法。
为了实现所述目的,根据本发明的一方面,提供一种接收极性信号(POL)和具有各个电平的多个伽马基准电压,对每一帧输出具有相反极性的显示数据,具有在当前帧中输出下一帧的显示数据时不输出显示数据的待机状态的液晶显示装置的源极驱动器驱动方法,该方法的特征在于,在所述源极驱动器的待机状态中,将所述源极驱动器的输出级与所述多个伽马基准电压中、具有任意的电平的伽马基准电压连接,所述输出级具有一定的电平。
根据本发明的其它一方面,在所述待机状态中,在下一帧的显示数据具有正区域的电压电平的情况下,将所述源极驱动器的输出级与具有正区域的中间电平的所述基准电压连接,在所述待机状态下,下一帧的显示数据具有负区域的电压电平的情况下,将所述源极驱动器的输出级与具有负区域的中间电平的所述伽马基准电压连接。
根据本发明的如前所述的结构,在源极驱动器的待机状态时,通过将输出级与伽马基准电压连接,可以得到消耗功率的降低、由液晶单元的充电时间缩短带来的响应速度的改善以及从源极驱动器输出的显示数据的输出延迟的抑制。
虽然与特定的实施方式相关联图示以及说明了本发明,但本发明不限于此,在不超出通过权利要求范围设置的本发明的精神或领域的范围内,本发明可以进行各种改造以及变形,这一点本领域具有普通常识的人可以容易地理解。

具体实施方式
以下,参考附图对本发明的优选实施方式进行详细叙述。
图2图示本发明的源极驱动器的方框结构图。
本发明的源极驱动器包括:移位寄存器10、数据寄存器11、数据锁存器12、电位移位器(level shifter)13、DA转换器14、输出缓冲器15以及切换部件16。
移位寄存器10对数据寄存器11供给边缘采样时钟,数据寄存器11根据从移位寄存器10供给的所述边缘采样时钟,载入从定时控制装置(未图示)提供的RGB数据。然后,RGB数据存储为一个水平线的所有的显示数据,并被移动到接收极性信号(POL)的数据锁存器12。
DA转换器14从数据锁存器12接收显示数据以及伽马基准电压(GMA1~10),使用根据灰度级别的伽马基准电压(GMA1~10)对各个显示数据赋予电压值。
输出缓冲器15由驱动液晶面板的运算放大器构成,如数据输出控制脉冲(LOAD)被起动(enable)则对液晶单元施加显示数据。
切换部件16接收所述伽马基准电压(GMA3、GMA8),并选择性地与输出缓冲器15的输出级连接。
具有如前所述的结构的源极驱动器根据输入的极性信号(POL),对每一帧生成具有相反的极性的显示数据,并与所述输出控制信号(LOAD)同步对液晶单元施加显示数据。此外,源极驱动器在不输入所述输出控制脉冲(LOAD)时,具有不输出显示数据的待机状态。此时,切换部件16将伽马基准电压(GMA3、GMA8)选择性地与源极驱动器的输出级连接,将输出级的电压电平维持在伽马基准电压(GMA3、GMA8)电平。
如参照图2以及图3考察本发明的源极驱动器的动作,则输入数据寄存器11的极性信号(POL)以脉冲形态被输入期间,根据输入输出缓冲器15的输出控制脉冲(LOAD)的输入定时而改变显示数据的极性。即,在极性信号(POL)的‘高电平’区间期间,输出控制脉冲(LOAD)在‘高电平’起动,则输出到源极驱动器的显示数据具有正的值。另一方面,极性信号(POL)的‘低电平’区间期间,输出到源极驱动器的显示数据具有负的值。
如前所述,源极驱动器在一帧期间输出正或负区域的显示数据,在到输出具有相反的极性的显示数据为止的待机状态下,通过切换部件16将伽马基准电压(GMA3、GMA8)选择性地与源极驱动器的输出级连接。这里,伽马基准电压‘GMA8’的电压电平为负区域的中间电平,伽马基准电压‘GMA3’的电压电平为正区域的中间电平。
首先,源极驱动器输出正区域的显示数据,在处于待机状态的情况下,切换部件16将伽马基准电压‘GMA8’与源极驱动器输出级连接。换言之,通过使源极驱动器输出级的电压电平移动到负区域的中间电平,在下一个负区域的显示数据被输出时,将电压电平变动宽度最小化。
接着,源极驱动器输出负区域的显示数据,在处于待机状态的情况下,切换部件16将伽马基准电压‘GMA3’与源极驱动器输出级连接。这是由于与将伽马基准电压‘GMA8’连接到源极驱动器输出级相反,使源极驱动器输出级的电压电平移动到正区域的中间电平的缘故。
图4表示本发明的源极驱动器的输出波形图,如图所示,在源极驱动器的实际的输出时间结束之后,到下一个显示数据的输出时间前为止的待机状态(a)下,将输出电平维持在正(a)或负(B)区域的中间电平。从而,从源极驱动器输出的显示数据电平变换为正(a)或负区域(B)时,将电压电平的变换宽度仅减小“C”区域,将源极驱动器具有的输出缓冲器15的驱动区域最小化。如前所述,最小化的电压电平变换宽度与图1中图示的现有的源极驱动器所使用的CS模式相比较,通过将输出缓冲器15的驱动区域缩小为1/2,可以高效地减少消耗功率。
从而,本发明不仅可以期待单纯的消耗功率的降低,而且通过将液晶单元的充电开始地点设定为中间电平,可以缩短液晶单元的充电时间,并可以期待液晶面板的电阻性以及寄生分量引起的从源极驱动器输出的显示数据波形的延迟抑制效果。
Claims (2)
1.一种液晶显示装置的源极驱动器驱动方法,接收极性信号(POL)和具有各个电平的多个伽马基准电压,对每一帧输出具有相反极性的显示数据,具有在当前帧中输出下一帧的显示数据时不输出显示数据的待机状态,其特征在于,
在所述源极驱动器的待机状态中,将所述源极驱动器的输出级与所述多个伽马基准电压中、具有任意的电平的伽马基准电压连接,使所述输出级具有一定的电平。
2.如权利要求1所述的液晶显示装置的源极驱动器驱动方法,其特征在于,在所述待机状态中,在下一帧的显示数据具有正区域的电压电平的情况下,将所述源极驱动器的输出级与具有正区域的中间电平的所述基准电压连接,
在所述待机状态下,在下一帧的显示数据具有负区域的电压电平的情况下,将所述源极驱动器的输出级与具有负区域的中间电平的所述伽马基准电压连接。
