Abstract
The present invention provides an antimicrobial composition comprising an antimicrobial effective amount (such as a preservative, bactericidal, and/or fungicidal effective amount) of a mixture comprising at least two of: (a) lemon grass oil; (b) cinnamaldehyde, cinnamon oil, cinnamomum cassia, cinnamon extract, cassia leaf oil, 3,4-dihydroxycinnamic acid or salt thereof, or a mixture thereof; (c) sorbic acid, or a salt thereof; (d) erythorbic acid, or a salt thereof; (e) benzoic acid, or a salt thereof; (f) arabinogalactan, galactoarabinan, or a mixture thereof; (g) a hexahydro-iso-alpha-acid, tetrahydro-iso-alpha-acid, or a mixture thereof; (h) Achillea fragrantissima oils, Santolina fragrantissima oils, Forssk oils, Lavender cotton oils; and (i) Glucono Delta Lactone. The present invention also provides a product (preferably a product other than a foodstuff, pharmaceutical, or cosmetic) comprising a preservative effective amount of cinnamaldehyde or a mixture of cinnamaldehyde and one or more alkanol-dialkyl hydantoins.

The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of test preservative blends.MIC is the least concentration that a kind of component suppresses growth of microorganism.This research adopts Hamilton Micro Lab AT Plus Autodilutor Liquid processing system to carry out.The autodilutor program is based on the standard application method SAPM#412-01-1 of Lonza.Use Hamilton Autodilutor,, the initial concentration of antiseptic combination diluted 50% with the nutrient meat soup in the 96 hole titer plate, and in specimen microbe inoculation.
The antiseptic of test is Isocil
TM(mixture of methyl isothiazolone and methyl-chloro-isothiazolone), Benzocil
TM(benzisothia oxazolone) and Lonzagard
TM(benzethonium chloride) is (all available from Lonza Inc.ofFair Lawn, NJ) with the compositions of variable concentrations and cinnamic aldehyde.On each test slab, also comprise matched group.Each preservative blends is to staphylococcus aureus and escherichia coli (ATCC#8739), and each preservative blends doubles to test.

Claims (32)
1. bactericidal composition comprises the mixture of antimicrobial effective amount, and described mixture comprises at least two kinds and is selected from following component:

(c) sorbic acid, or its salt,
(d) arabo-ascorbic acid, or its salt,
(e) benzoic acid, or its salt,
(f) arabinogalactan, gala arabinan, or their mixture,
(g) six hydrogen-different-alpha-acid, tetrahydrochysene-different-alpha-acid, or their mixture,
(h) fragrant milfoil oil, Oleum Santali albi, Forssk oil, cotton Essential lavender oil;
(i) gluconic acid Δ lactone.
2. bactericidal composition as claimed in claim 1 is characterized in that, described mixture comprises (a) cinnamic aldehyde; (b) sorbic acid or its salt.
3. bactericidal composition as claimed in claim 2 is characterized in that, the salt of component (b) is potassium sorbate.
4. bactericidal composition as claimed in claim 1 is characterized in that, described mixture comprises (a) arabo-ascorbic acid or its salt; (b) one or more in citric acid, gluconic acid Δ lactone, sorbic acid, EDTA or its salt.
5. bactericidal composition as claimed in claim 1 is characterized in that, described mixture comprises (a) benzoic acid or its salt; (b) one or more in citric acid, gluconic acid Δ lactone, benzoic acid, sorbic acid, EDTA or its salt.
6. bactericidal composition as claimed in claim 4 is characterized in that described mixture comprises arabo-ascorbic acid potassium sodium and potassium sorbate.
7. bactericidal composition as claimed in claim 6, described compositions also comprise benzoic acid or its salt.
8. bactericidal composition as claimed in claim 7 is characterized in that benzoate is a sodium benzoate.
9. bactericidal composition as claimed in claim 5 is characterized in that described mixture comprises (a) sodium benzoate and sodium erythorbate.
