Description

The structure of battery pack and method of work
Technical field
The present invention relates to a kind of battery of mobile communication terminal, more particularly, relate to a kind of structure and method of work that is applied to make the battery pack of memory effect minimum.
Background technology
Usually, various types of electric/electronics are by power drives, and to the electric supply of the fixed large electric/electronic equipment supply with large volume or weight by stepup transformer or reducing transformer conversion.
Simultaneously, for portable electric/electronic equipment,, therefore general to the power supply of this supply of equipment from battery because they can not receive the power supply by stepup transformer or reducing transformer conversion such as notebook computer or mobile phone.
The voltage that appends to the battery on the electric/electronic discharges as time goes by.Therefore, if the charging voltage in the battery is reduced on the level that is lower than the voltage that sets in advance, for normal operation electric/electronic, battery is placed in the charhing unit, to charge.
When by the use charhing unit battery being charged, battery be not recharged under the state of discharge usually fully. That is, before battery was discharged fully, it was placed in the charhing unit, to charge. Therefore, even after charging finishes, battery can not be kept above the level that sets in advance voltage, and this is called memory effect.Reason is that it has been discharged into and is lower than on the level that sets in advance voltage when being recharged if be assemblied in battery in the electric/electronic, then recharge to carry out being higher than on the voltage that sets in advance, so battery is only remembered this voltage status.
In other words, the battery of initial charge continued to provide a normal voltage to electric/electronic in one period that sets in advance, if but battery has been recharged and has discharged above certain number of times, because memory effect, even it can not be charged fully after charging, and can only be charged to and be lower than on the voltage level that sets in advance. Therefore, because battery can not remain on the voltage that output continues in one period that sets in advance, electric/electronic or device may not move in the best condition.
Therefore, in order to make the memory effect minimum of battery, battery should be discharged before recharging fully, but normally had the residual voltage that can not enough make the normal operation of electric/electronic during battery recharge, so memory effect will inevitably cause the lost of life of chargeable battery pack.
In order to reduce the memory effect of battery pack, traditionally, residual voltage is measured by charhing unit, and if the residual voltage that measures greater than threshold value, then battery be forced to the discharge, so that residual voltage is reduced under the threshold value, then, just the charging begin. Now there have been several technology and patents that are used for above-mentioned charging device, but do not had to propose to be used for removing the method for memory effect by battery pack self.

Interface unit 10 comprises: order input terminal 10a, and it is used for the control command of input terminal; Order outlet terminal 10b, it is used for according to the control command of terminal the dateout of controller 50 being transferred to terminal; Be connected to the charging terminal 10c of external charging unit; And supply terminal 10d, it is used for the charging voltage of a plurality of monocell 20-1~20-n is provided to terminal.
Controller 50 comprises: voltage measurement unit 50a, and it is used to measure each monocell (charging and the residual voltage of 20-1~20-n); Command interpretation and control unit 50b, it is used for exporting control signal according to the control command of the measuring voltage of voltage measurement unit 50a and terminal; And on-off controller 50c, it is used to control according to the control signal of command interpretation and control unit 50b controls a plurality of charge switch 30-1~30-n and provider switch 40-1~40-n.
Voltage measurement unit 50a, command interpretation and control unit 50b and on-off controller 50c are driven by the charging voltage of monocell 20-1~20-n, and are realized by low voltage logic circuitry or microcomputer.
Battery pack comprises at least one or a plurality of monocell 20-1~20-n.The mode of charging terminal 10c by being connected to interface unit 10 through charge switch comes each monocell is charged, and the mode of the supply terminal 10c by being connected to interface unit 10 through provider switch provides current to exterior terminal. Therefore, a monocell comprises a charge switch and a provider switch.
Preferably, the command interpretation of controller 50 and control unit 50b are realized by low voltage logic circuitry.By utilizing on-off controller 50c to control the mode of charge switch 30-1~30-n and provider switch 40-1~40-n, command interpretation and control unit 50b can be connected to charging terminal 10c or supply terminal 10d to one or several monocell 20-1~20-n.Command interpretation and control unit 50b can read monocell (each voltage of 20-1~20-n) (charging and residual voltage), the and whether charging that can understand battery pack begins by single battery voltage measuring unit 50a.
In this mode, command interpretation and control unit 50b detect the monocell with minimum residual voltage by the mode of utilizing on-off controller 50c and voltage measurement unit 50a to measure each residual voltage of monocell 20-1~20-n, and come corresponding monocell is charged by the mode that the charge switch that is used for monocell is connected to charging terminal.
In addition, by utilizing on-off controller 50c and voltage measurement unit 50a to measure the mode of the charging voltage of each monocell 20-1~20-n, command interpretation and control unit 50b detect the monocell with minimum residual voltage from have the monocell greater than the residual voltage of specific voltage threshold value (lowest threshold voltage), and come power supply to terminal by the mode that the provider switch that only will be used for this monocell is connected to supply terminal 10d.If there be not to keep the monocell of its charging voltage greater than the specific voltage threshold value, then command interpretation and control unit 50b select monocell with minimum charging voltage, perhaps select all monocells and are connected in parallel them, with to its power supply.
Equally, according to the control signal of the order input terminal 10a that passes through interface unit 10 from the exterior terminal input, command interpretation and control unit 50b utilize on-off controller 50c to control charge switch 30-1~30-n and provider switch 40-1~40-n, (mode of the measuring voltage of 20-1~20-n) is handled this control signal, and utilizes order outlet terminal 10b that the exterior terminal that outputs control signals to of control signal is provided by utilize voltage measurement unit 50a to read each monocell according to this control signal.
Order input terminal 10a and order outlet terminal 10b are the serial or parallel connection terminals, and the control signal with relative simple format is transferred to above it.Preferably, order input terminal 10a and order outlet terminal 10b are configured to series terminal, rather than shunt terminal.Series terminal comprises control terminal and clock terminal.By control terminal transmit control signal successively (bit that is command signal) and value signal. In this case, as long as forward low level to from high level, then use an interface to send each bit and the value signal of command signal by the clock signal of clock terminal transmission.

[table 1] is the battery pack that is used to have 4 monocells. In [table 1], bit 0~3rd, the value of each charge switch, and if each bit value be " 1 ", then its expression connects, and " 0 " expression disconnects.
As shown in Figure 2, can be with three kinds of pattern work according to battery pack of the present invention: basic schema, automatic mode and manual mode, it be determined by the residual voltage level of battery pack with from the control signal of charging device (or terminal) input.
Basic schema is used in when not carrying out charging, and in this pattern, each residual voltage of monocell 20-1~20-n is low especially. In basic schema, the operation of the voltage measurement unit 50a of controller 50, command interpretation and control unit 50b and on-off controller 50c all is stopped.Reason is that the assembly of controller 50 realizes that by logical circuit or microcomputer they may break down when low-voltage.
When battery pack self is controlled charge switch 30-1~30-n and provider switch 40-1~40-n, use automatic mode, selectively monocell 20-1~20-n is connected to charging terminal 10c or supply terminal 10d.In automatic mode, voltage measurement unit 50a, command interpretation and control unit 50b and on-off controller 50c are in operation.
Manual mode is only carried out by the control command of input from the outside. In manual mode, only charge switch 30-1~30-n and provider switch 40-1~40-n are switched by the external control order. When automatic mode was switched to manual mode, charge switch 30-1~30-n remained on the state that is connected with provider switch 40-1~40-n.
Can carry out manual mode by order input terminal 10a and the order outlet terminal 10b that uses interface unit 10, as shown in Figure 1, perhaps can by exterior terminal control or charhing unit in the selector that provides carry out.
That is, the basic schema of battery pack is an automatic mode.If the selector that provides in the charhing unit (or terminal) is by control signal of order input terminal 10a input of interface unit 10, i.e. command signal of 16 bits (' 10000000 ') and value signal (' 00000000 '), to switch to manual mode from automatic mode, then controller 50 comes output command signal (' 10000000 ') and value signal (' 00000000 ') as the order confirmation signal by order outlet terminal 10b, has been switched to manual mode with notice terminal automatic mode.At this moment, ' 0 ' expression order is by successful execution, and ' 0xff ' then represents failure.
In addition, can control or import the work that a mode that is used for the control signal that residual voltage measures is controlled monocell by switch.
For example, the control command (being control signal (' 10000010 ')) that is used to measure the monocell residual voltage when input, the command interpretation of controller 50 and control unit 50b control switch controller 50c and single battery voltage measuring unit 50a, with the residual voltage of measurement monocell 20-1~20-n, and the residual voltage that will measure by order outlet terminal 10b exports terminal to.In other words, in manual mode, all charge switch 30-1~30-n and provider switch 40-1~40-n keep connection status, so single battery voltage measuring unit 50a can measure the residual voltage of each monocell 20-1~20-n, and it is exported to command interpretation and control unit 50b.
In this case, if the residual voltage of monocell 20-1 is ' 0 ', then command signal ' 10000001 ' and value signal ' 0x00 ' will be outputed to order outlet terminal 10b from command interpretation and control unit 50b.Perhaps, if residual voltage is the voltage that charges fully, then output command signal ' 10000001 ' and value signal ' 0xff '.
Therefore, terminal receives the residual voltage data of monocell, and input is used for the control signal that switch (provider switch or provider switch) is controlled, and so that required monocell is charged, or the voltage that charges in monocell can be provided for terminal. For example, if wish and will offer the second monocell 20-2 from the power supply of charging device input, the command signal ' 10000001 ' and the value signal ' 00000010 ' that then are used for connecting charge switch 30-2 are imported into order input terminal 10a.Then, command interpretation and control unit 50b open charge switch 30-2 according to command signal and value signal, are charged on the battery pack 20-2 thereby make from the power supply of external charging equipment input.
With reference to figure 2, command interpretation and control unit 50b check the residual voltage of each monocell, and if the residual voltage of each monocell 20-1~20-n all less than preset threshold value voltage, then pattern is automatically switched to basic schema. And when in manual mode, beginning to charge, if the charging voltage of monocell greater than lowest threshold voltage, then pattern is automatically switched to automatic mode from basic schema.
Change from the manual mode to the automatic mode can be carried out by the selector of external charging equipment. When pattern was changed to automatic mode, command interpretation and control unit 50b can not depend on the control signal that is input among the order input terminal 10a.
Be described in charging and power supply method in the automatic mode of battery pack below with reference to Fig. 3 and 4.
Fig. 3 is the flow chart that is used for the method for battery pack being charged at automatic mode according to the present invention.
Usually, the basic schema of battery pack is an automatic mode. When by interface unit 10 battery pack being connected to external charging equipment, the command interpretation of controller 50 and control unit 50b control switch controller 50c and voltage measurement voltage 50a are with the residual voltage (step S10) of measuring all monocell 20-1~20-n.At this moment, command interpretation and control unit 50b read the residual voltage of each monocell by provider switch 40-1~40-n from voltage measurement voltage 50a with (latch) form that latchs. When measuring residual voltage, the mains switch shown in the frame of broken lines in command interpretation and the control unit 50b control chart 1 is with the power supply of temporarily disconnected by charging terminal 10c input.
After the residual voltage of measuring all monocells, command interpretation and control unit 50b are chosen in a monocell (step S11) that has minimum residual voltage in the residual voltage of having measured, and control mains switch and on-off controller 50c are only to be connected to charging terminal 10c to the charge switch that is connected to selected monocell. In this case, the residual voltage of selected monocell should be greater than lowest threshold voltage. For example, if select monocell 20-1, then have only charge switch 30-1 to be connected to charging terminal 10c, so that corresponding monocell 20-1 is charged by mains switch.
Selected monocell 20-1 is charged constantly, reaches reference threshold up to charging voltage, promptly complete charge threshold (step 12).In this case, reference threshold voltage refers to complete charging voltage, i.e. the minimum of the error range in the monocell heap(ed) capacity. For example, suppose complete charging voltage in the scope of 3.9V~4.3V, then reference threshold voltage is 3.9V.Charging voltage may be different because of the different manufacturers of monocell fully.
In the process of charging, command interpretation and control unit 50b constantly measure the charging voltage of monocell 20-1 by voltage measurement voltage 50a, with the charging voltage of checklist battery 20-1 whether greater than reference threshold (step S13).In order to realize this purpose, command interpretation and control unit 50b also open provider switch 40-1 when opening charge switch 30-1.
When checking, if the charging voltage of monocell 20-1 less than reference threshold, execution in step S12 once more then. But if the charging voltage of monocell 20-1 surpasses reference threshold, repeated execution of steps S10-S13 then is to select another monocell (step S14).
Therefore, in one embodiment of the invention,, as shown in Figure 5, then at first first monocell with minimum residual voltage is charged, then successively second monocell and the 3rd monocell are charged if battery pack comprises 4 monocells. As for the 4th monocell, because its residual voltage is greater than reference threshold voltage, therefore the 4th monocell will not be recharged.
After this, when the charging voltage of all monocells surpasses reference threshold (step S14), command interpretation and control unit 50b finish charging operations.
In addition, in the process of carrying out charging operations, import the switching command that is used to switch to manual mode from the outside, then finish this operation if all monocells all are in utmost point low-voltage state (this pattern is switched to manual mode) or by interface unit 10.
If in automatic mode, the residual voltage of all monocells then switches to basic schema all less than lowest threshold, and in basic schema, all monocells are connected in parallel and carry out charging, thereby have improved the stability of battery pack.
Fig. 4 is the flow chart of the power supply method of the battery pack in automatic mode according to the present invention.
When battery pack was mounted on the terminal by interface unit 10, the command interpretation of controller 50 and control unit 50b control switch controller 50c and voltage measurement voltage 50a were with the residual voltage (step S20) of measuring all monocell 20-1~20-n.At this moment, the residual voltage of each monocell that provides via provider switch 40-1~40-n is provided from voltage measurement voltage 50a with the form of latching for command interpretation and control unit 50b.In addition, when measuring residual voltage, the mains switch in command interpretation and the control unit 50b control chart 1, and temporarily disconnected is by the power supply of supply terminal 10d output.
After the residual voltage of measuring all monocells, command interpretation and control unit 50b check whether there is such monocell, and its residual voltage is greater than lowest threshold voltage (step 21) in the residual voltage of having measured.Step 21 is used to select to expect monocell with minimum memory effect and be used to check extremely low voltage status.
If the residual voltage of all monocells is all less than lowest threshold voltage, then the pattern with battery pack switches to basic schema from automatic mode.Simultaneously, if there be the battery pack of its residual voltage, then corresponding monocell is put in the available monocell tabulation greater than lowest threshold voltage.
Command interpretation and the control unit 50b monocell that selection has minimum residual voltage from available monocell tabulation, promptly, monocell 20-2 (step S22) for example, and control mains switch and on-off controller 50c, only the provider switch 40-2 that is connected to selected monocell is connected to supply terminal 10d.Therefore, by supply terminal 10d, the charging voltage of corresponding monocell 20-2 is provided for terminal (step S23).
After this, command interpretation and control unit 50b constantly measure the residual voltage (step S24) of the monocell 20-2 that just is being used, and if residual voltage be reduced to below the lowest threshold voltage, as shown in Figure 5, then turn back to step S20, to select another monocell. In order to realize this purpose, command interpretation and control unit 50b also open charge switch 30-2 when opening provider switch 40-2.
Therefore, if battery pack comprises 4 monocells, as shown in Figure 5, then second monocell will at first be thought the terminal provisioning power supply, be the 3rd monocell and the 4th monocell successively then.Because the residual voltage of first monocell is less than lowest threshold voltage, therefore first monocell can not power supply.
Step repeats rapid S20~S24, and if the residual voltage of each monocell all less than lowest threshold voltage, then the pattern of battery pack is switched to basic schema from automatic mode, with power supply.
In basic schema, the operation of each assembly of controller 50 is stopped, and because all provider switch 40-1~40-1 are in open mode, therefore the power supply of the monocell that is connected in parallel is provided to terminal.
Though the present invention only is used to charge to one or the selection operation of the monocell of power supply supply is described from the angle explained, necessity can be used several monocells, and need not to be so limited.By consulting description of the invention, those of ordinary skill in the art is readily appreciated that this.
According to described, has following advantage according to the structure and the method for work of battery pack of the present invention.
That is, one or several monocell of battery pack is selected for charging or power supply supply, and charge mode automatically changes according to the charging voltage of monocell, so the stability of battery pack and effectiveness improve. In addition, by reducing memory effect, the bulk life time of battery pack obtains prolonging.
The foregoing description and advantage are exemplary and do not think as restriction of the present invention. The present invention can be applied to the device of other type at an easy rate.Description of the invention is exemplary and can not limits the scope of claims.A lot of replacements, modifications and variations are conspicuous for those of ordinary skill in the art.In claims, the clause that adds function is set is used to cover the structure that realizes described function, not only comprise structural equivalence, also comprise the structure of equivalence.
