Abstract

Description
本发明涉及用于接收广播数字传输的组合的计算机和解码器系统。本发明同样扩展到适用于这种系统中的计算机和解码器的每个元件。
在付费TV系统领域中,数字数据的广播传输众所周知。其中,通常用卫星或卫星/电缆链路发送加密编码的音像信息到一些用户,每个用户拥有一个能够对所传输的节目解码以便随后观看的解码器或接收机/解码器。也公知地面数字广播系统。
近来已经建议将这种数字广播技术用于传播其它类型的数字数据和信息。广播传输与其他电讯网络诸如电话网络相比有一些优点,尤其是对于增加的带宽、传输的可靠性等等。由于这些原因,例如已经提出一些使用电缆或卫星链路的系统,以允许访问因特网。
目前,这种服务的提供处在早期阶段,在这点上已建议的常规硬件和软件系统经常与正被讨论的应用不协调。例如,在数字电视接收机/解码器的场合,该系统通常用电视类型的遥控设备来控制。虽然这一类型的遥控器通常对电视应用(频道变换,节目指导或菜单的选择)已足够,但是更复杂的应用,诸如因特网浏览器,为了易于操作通常需要键盘。相似的,取决于所涉及的应用,解码器的可用存储器可能不适于有效操作。
由于这些理由,可以想像一种组合PC/解码器的安排。然而,虽然可以预见这种组合的理论上的优点,但是实现这种系统的实际细节可能引起许多其他问题,特别是在这两者之间的信息通讯方面,怎样配置解码器来处理不同类型的数据,解码器怎样在不同操作方式(例如电视/因特网方式)之间变换等等。
本发明的一个目的是提供一种实际可实现的解码器/计算机的组合,它能使数字数据从解码器下载到计算机,同时避免由该系统元件之间的交互作用而引起任何可能的操作问题。
根据本发明,提供一个用来接收广播数字数据传输的组合的计算机和解码器系统,其特征在于,所述解码器包括一个路由选择设备,通过所述路由选择设备识别在解码器上接收并要送往该计算机的广播数字数据,并将其导向计算机内的应用程序。
解码器里路由选择设备的存在能使解码器简单有效地识别打算用于解码器内应用程序的消息,并允许解码器拒绝例如具有另一目的地的消息。
在一个计算机/解码器的安排里,解码器在这一方式操作期间接收的大多数数据将导向计算机,以便进一步处理。然而,在某些场合下,数据可能引向解码器自身内的应用程序。
例如,解码器可以包括监视传输的应用程序。在一个实施例中,应用程序可以监视所传输消息的连续性,比如,通过检查编号消息序列里每个消息的抵达。在这种情况下,代表消息号码的数据被送到监视应用程序。
另一可选择的方案是,可以把某些标准测试消息送到解码器的存储器内的堆栈,以允许解码器根据所接收消息的组成评估传输信道的质量。
基于解码器的应用程序也可以使用接收的广播数据来修正路由选择表,下面将说明这一点。
在一个特别优选的实施例中,解码器进一步包括一个解码器内的应用程序,适应于配置包括路由选择设备等的解码器的操作参数。这一配置应用程序及其参数可以被加载到解码器或通过从计算机接收到的指令来修正。另一可选择的方案,或另外,该配置应用程序连同表示初始配置参数的数据可以在制造解码器期间存储到解码器的存储器里,允许在解码器加电时自动配置解码器。
优点是,该配置应用程序可以进一步加载到解码器里或通过在传输的广播数据中接收到的指令来修正。这一实现方案允许解码器能够通过在广播数据流中包含的指令远程重编程。
实际上,可使路由选择设备适应根据接收到的消息数据的特征来识别消息和为其选择路由。在一个实施例中,由解码器以MPEG格式接收的广播数据由路由表根据包ID头标值选择路由。
导向计算机的广播数字数据可以只包含由以前安装在该计算机内的应用程序处理的数据,所述应用程序例如是存储在软磁盘上并加载到计算机里的应用程序。然而,在一个实施例中,广播数据也可以包含应用程序自身,适应于被导向计算机以便在其内执行。以这种方式,可以执行从远程服务器远程下载应用程序到计算机。在传输的数据不保密和/或通过免费服务提供者来提供(如为某因特网应用的场合)的场合,可以在广播中用明文传输数据。然而,在送往计算机的数据是专有数据或者很有价值的场合,就希望有限制访问这些数据的手段。
优选解码器进一步包括解密设备,适应于解密以加密编码方式广播的数字数据,以便随后以解密的形式送往计算机。在一个实现方案里,连同用于解密数据的控制字一起传输加密编码数据,该控制字自身以所谓的开发(exploitation)密钥加密并以加密形式传输。解码器拥有一个同等的开发密钥来解密控制字和解密数据。从电视数据的解码中公知的这些和其他安全措施可以有益地用在本系统里以限制对打算用于计算机应用程序的数据的访问。
在上述实施例中,主要关于通过广播传输链路接收的、预定送往计算机或解码器的数据讨论了路由选择设备的操作。但是,将会理解,路由选择设备也可以操作,为从其他数据源诸如在解码器内和/或计算机内的应用程序接收的数字数据和通过解码器的任何其它输入端口例如串行/并行链路等等接收的数据选择路由。
在计算机/解码器组合用在交互应用例如因特网应用的场合,计算机可以与调制解调器连接,使得可以从计算机发送消息到广播中心或在任何别处的服务器,例如要求传输定义的主页等。但是,这可能增加用户系统的成本。
优选解码器进一步包括一个调制解调器,使路由选择设备适应为从计算机内的应用程序接收到的选择消息选择路由到该调制解调器。实际上,旨在用于数字电视市场的几乎所有的接受机/解码器都拥有一个调制解调器链路,该调制解调器的成本包含在解码器自身的成本里。
如在本申请的前言中所述,解码器和计算机组合会出现通讯和冲突命令的问题。在本发明的一个特别优选的实施例中,预见了解码器操作至少部分地由在计算机内的控制设备发送的控制信号控制。
通过把解码器的控制转移到计算机,可以更易于管理该系统的操作。例如,在一个实施例中,计算机控制解码器内的调谐器的操作,为接收要下载到计算机的数字数据选择信道频率。因为计算机内的应用程序可能知道这一信息,但解码器不知,所以由应用程序自动选择信道频率对操作员来说显著简化了系统的设定。
由其他设备诸如解码器远程控制器发送到解码器的指令和源于计算机的指令之间可能的冲突也能通过这种控制转移来避免。
例如,可以使计算机适应发送控制信号到解码器使该解码器不响应从选择的其他解码器输入接收的选择命令,例如从解码器遥控器接收到的频道变化命令。在一些实施例里,仍可以使解码器能够从其它输入源接收命令,例如在广播数据流中接收的命令。
下面会明白,本发明的计算机/解码器组合可以应用在一些商业应用中,范围从大市场因特网类型浏览器应用程序到旨在用于公司组织的更专门的应用,其中使用广播链路来发送专用数据。
一个想见的例子是用于从中央财政中心向一些远程终端传输财政信息,尤其是股票价格信息。在这种应用中,顾客从与标准电信网络相比增加的信道容量以及通过加密传输(在提供时)而对敏感数据的安全保护中受益。在该实施例中,解码器将只被用作为计算机预定的信息信道,不处理电视传输。
相比之下,在解码器应用在大市场产品意义上的场合,解码器也可以应用在其正常配置,亦即接收和处理数字电视信号,这显然极具优点。在这种场合,该系统进一步包括一个电视显示器,使解码器适应处理接收到的广播音像数据,随后发送到该电视显示器。
本发明进一步扩展到应用在上述系统里的计算机和解码器。
虽然本申请是指《接收机/解码器》和《解码器》,但应该理解,本发明同样适用于具有与解码器集成的接收机的实施例,以及与一个在物理上分开的接收机组合作用的解码器单元。这样的解码器可以是用于任何卫星、地面,电缆等数字广播系统类型的解码器,并可以包括其他多媒体类型能力。
下面仅作为示例说明本发明的一个实施例,其中:
图1表示数字电视领域中公知的一个数字传输系统的总结构;
图2表示接收机/解码器元件的略图;

图1表示可适应于本发明的一个数字电视广播和接收系统1000的略图。它包括一个大部分为常规的数字传输和接收系统2000,该系统使用公知的MPEG-2压缩系统来传输压缩的数字信号。更详细说,位于广播中心里的MPEG-2压缩器2002接收数字信号流,例如视频信号流。压缩器2002通过连接2006连接到多路转换器和加密编码器2004。
多路转换器2004接收另外多个输入信号,组装一个或多个传输流,经由连接2010传输压缩的数字信号到广播中心的发射机2008,连接2010当然可以采取多种形式,包括电信链路。发射机2008经由上行链路2012向卫星转发器2014发射电磁信号,在卫星转发器上电磁信号被电子处理,并经由抽象的下行链路2016广播到地面接收机2018,通常为由终端用户拥有或租用的碟形天线。
由接收机2018接收的信号被传输到由终端用户拥有或租用并连接到终端用户的电视机2022上的集成接收机/解码器2020。接收机/解码器2020将压缩的MPEG-2信号解码为用于电视机2022的电视信号。虽然本申请是指“接收机/解码器”和“解码器”,但应该理解,本发明同样适用于具有与解码器集成的接收机的实施例,以及与一个在物理上分开的接收机组合作用的解码器单元。
条件访问系统3000连接到多路转换器2004和接收机/解码器2020,一部分位于广播中心,一部分位于解码器。它能使终端用户访问从一个或多个广播供应商提供的数字广播。智能卡能够解密与商业供货(也就是说,由广播供应商卖的一个或几套电视节目或数据服务)有关的消息,它能插进接收机/解码器2020中。
尽人皆知付费电视系统领域中的加密编码数据传输。通常,加密编码数据连同用于解码该数据的一个控制字一起传输,该控制字本身以所谓的开发密钥加密并以加密形式传输。
然后解码器2020接收加密编码数据和加密控制字,解码器2020有权访问在插进解码器中的智能卡内存储的开发密钥的一个等价密钥,解密加密的控制字,之后解码传输的数据。已付费用户将在每月广播的ECM(授权控制消息)中接收该开发密钥,它对解密加密的控制字是必需的,以允许观看传输的节目。
交互系统4000也与多路转换器2004和接收机/解码器2020连接,也一部分位于广播中心,一部分位于解码器,能使终端用户经由调制解调的返回信道4002与不同的应用程序交互作用。
上述类型的系统一般在与广播数字电视传输关联的数字音像数据传输的概念中公知。然而,正如下面将要更详细说明的那样,该系统将应用于传输打算用于最终用在连到正被讨论的解码器的计算机中的数据。这些数据可以代替数字电视数据或连同其一起传输,取决于例如该系统是打算用于消费者还是用于专业市场。
在不传播电视信号的场合,可以省略用于处理数字视频流的MPEG压缩器2002。为由多路转换器2004多路转换而由服务器4000传送的信息可以通过服务器预格式化成MPEG格式,或者由一个专用服务器(未示出)转换以便随后传输。
参考图2,现在说明用于数字广播系统和适应应用在本发明中的接收机/解码器2020或机顶盒的元件。很快会理解,这一解码器的元件在很大程度上是常规元件,它们的实现不超出熟悉本技术领域人员的能力范围。
如图所示,解码器2020装备有一些接收和传输数据的接口,特别有一个MPEG调谐器和多路选择器2040,用于接收广播MPEG传输,一个串行接口2041,一个并行接口2042和一个用于经由电话网络发送和接收数据的调制解调器2028。在该实施例中,解码器还包括第一和第二智能卡读取器2030和2031,第一读取器2030接收包含与系统关联的解密密钥的订阅智能卡,第二读取器2031接收银行和其他卡。
该解码器还包括接收机2043,用于接收手持遥控器2044的红外线控制信号,和一个Peritel输出端(SCART连接器的一种),用于发送音像信号到与解码器连接的电视机2022(如果存在的话)。
中央控制单元2045执行经由接口接收的数字信号的处理和数字输出信号的产生。解码器内的控制单元的软件结构可以相应于用于公知解码器中的软件结构,这里将不再作详细的说明。例如,它可以基于一个通过接口层与在该解码器的硬件部件中实现的较低层操作系统交互作用的虚拟机。至于硬件结构,该解码器装备有如公知解码器中使用的处理器、诸如ROM,RAM,FLASH(超高速)存储器等存储器元件。
由控制单元2045处理的应用程序可以是存储在该解码器的ROM或FLASH中的常驻应用程序或者是广播和经由该解码器的MPEG接口2下载的应用程序。应用程序可以包括节目指南应用程序,游戏、交互服务、电视购物应用程序,还有使解码器在起动后立即操作的起动应用程序和配置解码器的应用程序。应用程序存储在解码器的存储器单元中,并作为包含图形对象描述文件,单元文件,可变块文件,指令序列文件,应用文件,数据文件等的源文件表示。
通常,经由广播链路下载到解码器的应用程序被分成许多模块,每个模块相应于一个或多个MPEG表。每个MPEG表可以被分成许多区段。为了经由串行和并行端口进行数据传输,模块也分成表和区段,区段大小取决于所用的信道。
在广播传输的场合,模块以数据流的各自类型如视频数据流、音频数据流、文本数据流内的数据包的形式来传输。根据MPEG标准,每个包的前面有一个13位的包标识符(PID),以MPEG流传输的每个包有一个PID。节目映象表(PMT)包含不同流的名单并根据各PID定义每个流的内容。PID可以提醒设备意识到数据流里应用程序的存在,PID由PMT表来标识。
现在参考图3说明根据本发明的解码器/计算机组合的硬件结构。解码器2020包括来自接收机2018的输入连接,它还经由串行和/或并行连接器2026,2027连接到PC形式的计算机2027。在另一可代替的实施例里,计算机2027可以是能接收数据和执行安装的应用程序的任何数目的不同的计算机设备(Unix工作站等)。
与解码器关联的是集成调制解调器设备2028。虽然它在本图中作为不同的项目表示,但是调制解调器2028通常集成在解码器机体内。PC计算机2027还可以包括连到通常与计算机分开提供的调制解调器2029的链路。下面将要讨论,在某些实施例中,解码器调制解调器2028可使调制解调器2029是多余的。
如上所述,解码器包括智能卡读取器槽2030,2031,用于接收与解码器关联的信用卡或订阅卡。在该系统内发送的数据传输可以被加密或加密编码,与解码器关联的订阅卡拥有必需的一个或多个密钥,用于对该传输解密。
现在参考图4说明该系统的逻辑结构。很快会理解,解码器和PC内部的功能元件实际通过编程的软件模块实现,它们由微处理器设备联系在RAM,EEPROM,FLASH等存储器设备中存储的数据执行。另外可选择的方案是,例如,可以用专用硬件ASIC实现某些功能。
由服务器4000提供并由接收机2018捕获的数字广播数据传送到解码器2020内的路由选择表应用程序2032。访问控制应用程序2033进行对加密编码的MPEG数据解密来恢复解密的消息包。这些消息包由路由选择表要么导向解码器内的应用程序2034,或者经由选择的一个并行或者串行通道2025,2026导向PC计算机2027内的应用程序。某些消息也可以送往解码器配置应用程序2035,它除别的功能外还控制路由选择表的配置,下面将会详细说明。
可以根据PID即MPEG消息包的包ID或与接收到的消息包关联的任何头标区段或指示符执行消息的选择和随后的路由选择。预定到计算机2027的数据经由并行或串行连接2025,2026被发送到通信管理器2035,它适应于管理经由计算机上的串行和并行端口的通信。
在应用程序2034位于解码器2020内的场合,这些程序可以包括例如传输监视应用程序,适应于接收相应于标准测试格式的包消息和根据对所有或部分测试包消息接收的正确或不正确来评估通讯信道的质量。比如,当接收机被调谐到发送正被讨论的数据的信道时可以使用该程序。另外或另一可选择的方案为,可以提供连续性计数器应用程序来监视在编号序列中的每个消息的到达。
由解码器接收并被发送到计算机2027的数据可以包括适应由在该计算机内存在的一个应用程序处理的简单数据,例如为网络浏览器2036的数据。在其它专门商业应用中,数据例如股票数据可能适应于由专门应用程序来处理和显示。这一数据可以响应从计算机2027接收到的命令或在定期的时间间隔的自动基础上加以更新。
实际上,解码器内的一个配置应用程序2037控制路由选择表2032的配置。在制造过程中,部分或全部配置应用程序可以被安装进该应用程序的存储器,使得解码器包括路由选择指令的一个预定集,以便能使解码器在起动时刻处理包消息的路由。
另外,或另一可选择的方案是,首先根据初始预定的路由选择配置,通过经由解码器MPEG数据流接收和在该解码器内由路由器2032分发的包消息,安装或修改配置应用程序。以这种方式,可以远程编程和重编程解码器。
更有意义的是,解码器配置应用程序2037也可以由从PC计算机2027内的监视应用程序2038发送的控制指令配置。如所有PC应用程序,该应用程序可以通过软磁盘或通过由解码器接收并重导向该PC的包消息加载到该PC。然后监视应用程序能对路由选择表2032及其参数执行必要的配置,能使解码器正确处理计划用于浏览器应用程序2035或任何其它在PC或解码器内的应用程序的消息,并为之选择路由。
解码器配置的另外方面一般也由应用程序2037来处理,并且可以由来自监视应用程序2038的控制信号控制。以这种方式,能使PC采取所有的必需步骤来正确配置解码器以接收预定为PC应用程序的数据消息。特别是,监视应用程序2038可以适应发送控制消息到应用程序2037来调整解码器的调谐,以接收在一个特定通讯频率上发送的消息。
监视应用程序也能这样配置解码器,使其不能从某些或所有其他数据源接受其它输入信号,例如从与该解码器关联的一个遥控器接收的改变频道请求。其他控制参数也同样可以按需调整。
可以理解该特殊实施例的优点。一般说,在一个PC/解码器组合中,操作员将从PC终端驱动系统。在这种场合,该系统应该一般不响应经由解码器给该系统的命令(当然,可能的例外是经由MPEG流接收的命令)。本发明的这一实现防止产生这种冲突,并避免例如操作员在PC应用程序操作期间由解码器遥控来不经意地变换频道的可能。
同样,从PC控制解码器的优点是,加载到PC的新应用程序能自动重新配置标准解码器,例如,通常设定接收一已知电视频道的解码器。通过PC内的监视应用程序,可以控制解码器来检索与用于新应用程序的数据传输关联的信道,并将这种数据下载与选择路由到PC计算机内的应用程序。通过这种方式,用户省却自己调整解码器到正确的信道,因为这将由PC自动执行。
在图3和图4的实施例中,所述系统为在很大程度上是专业或商业服务类型而配置,其中解码器仅用于处理与PC内使用的应用程序有关的数据。在这种服务中,解码器将不用于处理TV数据,不需要电视显示器。
然而,在一些实现方案中,该解码器也可以用于执行它的“常规”功能,亦即不时处理数字TV数据,在这种场合,电视机将连接到该系统内的解码器。在这种装置里,解码器可以随用户要求变换模式。
如上所述,在PC控制解码器的场合,例如,接收为用于浏览器应用程序下载的网页数据,解码器将不响应经由解码器遥控器等接收的命令,直到用户通过来自PC的命令终止该次对话。
以上的讨论集中于经由MPEG流接收的包数据的路由选择。将会理解,也可以使用路由选择表引导从设备任何端口接收的消息。特别是,在PC内交互式应用程序的场合,例如,万维网浏览器2036,也可能需要从PC应用程序发送命令到服务器4000。
在最简单的实施例中,PC可以经由标准调制解调器连接2029连接到服务器4000。来自PC2027和经由调制解调器2029发送的信息请求将由服务器通过卫星或广播链路2018发送的信息回答。这一实施以在计算机2027内的或与之关联的调制解调器的存在为先决条件。
在另一可选的安排中,来自PC2027预定到服务器4000的消息可以经由串行/并行线2025,2026发送,它通过路由选择表2032来选择到与解码器集成的调制解调器2028的路由,之后发送到服务器4000。由于所有解码器实际上制造成带有这种调制解调器,用户不用对这种配置负担额外开销。
调制解调器2028当然也可以用于分发来自解码器应用程序的消息,例如,来自检查在选择的信道上传输质量的应用程序2034的消息或来自访问控制应用程序2033的消息。例外的是,这些消息也可以从服务器经由调制解调器连接2028,2029中的任一个发送到解码器和/或PC。
Claims (21)
1.用于接收广播数字数据传输的组合的计算机和解码器系统,其特征在于,所述解码器包括路由选择设备,解码器接收的和预定用于计算机的广播数字数据被识别并由所述路由选择设备导向计算机内的应用程序。
2.如权利要求1所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,其中,所述路由选择设备进一步适应选择数据到解码器内应用程序的路由。
3.如权利要求1或2所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,其中,解码器进一步包括适应配置解码器操作参数的解码器内应用程序。
4.如权利要求3所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,其中,配置应用程序特别被适应配置路由选择设备。
5.如权利要求3或4所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,其中,配置应用程序由从计算机接收到的指令加载到解码器,或加以修改。
6.如权利要求3到5中任何一个权利要求所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,其中,配置应用程序在解码器的最初制造过程中存储在解码器的存储器中。
7.如权利要求3到6中任何一个权利要求所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,其中,配置应用程序由在传输的广播数据中接收到的指令加载到解码器,或加以修改。
8.前述权利要求中任何一个权利要求所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,其中,由解码器以MPEG格式接收的广播数据至少部分根据包ID头标值由路由选择表来确定路由。
9.前述权利要求中任何一个权利要求所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,其中,导向计算机的广播数字数据包含先前安装在计算机内的应用程序要处理的数据和/或要被安装在计算机内和执行的应用程序。
10.前述权利要求中任何一个权利要求所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,其中,所述解码器进一步包括解密设备,适应用于解密以加密编码形式的数字数据广播,以便为随后以解密形式导向计算机。
11.如权利要求10所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,其中,解码器拥有开发密钥的同等密钥来对广播数据中加密的控制字解密,该控制字随后被用于对数据解码。
12.前述权利要求中任何一个权利要求所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,其中,解码器进一步包括调制解调器,路由选择设备适应引导从计算机应用程序接收到的选择消息到该调制解调器。
13.前述权利要求中任何一个权利要求所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,其中,解码器的操作至少部分地由计算机内的控制设备发送的控制信号控制。
14.如权利要求13所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,其中,计算机控制解码器内调谐器的操作来选择信道频率,用于接收要下载到计算机的数字数据。
15.如权利要求13或14所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,其中,计算机适应用于发送控制信号到解码器,以使解码器不响应从选择的其他解码器输入接收的所选择的命令。
16.前述权利要求中任何一个权利要求所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,其中,计算机包括因特网浏览器应用程序,适应接收经由解码器选择路由的数据。
17.前述权利要求中任何一个权利要求所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,其中,计算机包括一个应用程序,适应接收经由解码器选择路由的财政数据,例如股票价格信息。
18.前述权利要求中任何一个权利要求所述组合的计算机和解码器系统,进一步包括连接到解码器的电视显示器,解码器适应处理接收到的广播音像数据,随后发送到电视显示器。
19.用于前述权利要求中任何一个权利要求所述组合的计算机和解码器系统中的解码器,所述解码器包括路由选择设备,适应识别为连接的计算机预定的广播数字数据并为其选择路由。
20.用于权利要求1到18中任何一个权利要求所述组合的计算机和解码器系统中的计算机,所述计算机包括控制设备,适应产生至少部分控制解码器操作的控制信号。
21.基本上如在此间参考附图说明和图示的用于接收广播数字数据传输的组合的计算机和解码器系统。
