Abstract

本发明涉及通信系统,尤其涉及计算机通信系统。
背景技术
尽管大多数美国个人能够拥有一台或多台个人电脑,但是许多住宅还不能通过连线来利用这些计算机的高速通信或资源共享的功能。许多计算机与计算机或者计算机与外部设备之间的通信需要通过高速网络电缆,而这在大多数住宅中是没有的。作为在现有家庭之间用高速电缆连接(如以太网)的一种替代,有一种标准化的高速数据传输协议,叫做Home PNA,它是由3Com、AMD、ATT、Compaq、Conexant、IBM、Intel和Lucent等公司联合开发出来的。Home PNA允许计算机系统通过现有的电话线来发送并接收高速数字数据,而电话线已经遍布每个居所。Home PNA信号的发送频带位于5.5-9.5MHz,以避免与其他可以同时在电话线中传送的信号,比如DSL或语音信号,发生冲突。
在过去,如果用户想要能够从他们的计算机中发送或者接收数据,则计算机必须要配备多块接口卡。一种卡是模拟的调制解调器,用来在传统的电话电路所用的语音频带中发送和接收数据。DSL卡用来在一组电话线中发送和接收数据。为了在Home PNA网络中收发数据,最终还需要另一种接口卡。这些卡中的每一种通常都包含有滤波器装置,用来隔离特定频带中的数据信号。这些滤波器主要包含有许多模拟器件,它们的制作或校准费用昂贵。为了减少超过一个的冗余个人接口卡,有必要设计单个接口卡,它能够在多个频带中收发数字数据而不需要复杂的模拟滤波器元件。
发明内容
本发明是一种单一接口卡,它允许计算机在多个频带中收发数字数据,而不需要利用模拟滤波器元件。为了在传统的家庭电话线中收发数据,该接口卡包括一个隔离电路,用来将电话线中的信号耦合到接口卡。隔离电路的输出馈送到单个模数/数模(AtoD/DtoA)转换器。AtoD/DtoA转换器的输出被馈送到一个数字分路/组合器,它利用数字信号处理或离散数字逻辑来对数字数据滤波,将数据分成多个频域。在0.1-4KHz中的语音频带中的信号被数字分路/组合器送到PCM调制解调器。在85-500KHz范围中的信号被送到DSL电路。另外,由数字分路/组合器提供的在5.5-9.5MHz范围中的数字信号被送到Home PNA电路中。数字分路/组合器允许单个卡需要很少量或不需要模拟滤波器元件,而且不需要几种分离的集成电路来处理不同频带中的信号。

具体实施方式
如上所述,本发明是一种接口卡,它允许计算机系统从传统的电话线中接收高速数字数据,而不需要体积庞大且不必要的模拟滤波器元件。
图1描述了一种传统的传送高速数字数据和电话信号到住宅中的方法。电话信号以及数字数据在数据传输线10中,其中典型地包括一根混合光纤和同轴电缆。电缆的终端是位于住宅14中的接线盒12。接线盒12中包括一个电缆调制解调器(没有画出),它通过一个以太网电缆16将高速数字数据路由到计算机系统18。另外,接线盒12中包括一个电话接口电路(没有画出),它为电话22供电并产生适当的振铃信号、拨号音等等。电话接口电路提供在传统双绞线20中的电话信号。如上所述,限制众多计算机用户接收高速数据的主要因素之一在于,其住所、公寓、市内住宅等等没有连接高速以太电缆16。因此,这些电缆必须专门由因特网服务提供商、电缆操作员或者其他技术人员来安装。从而增加了接收高速数字数据所带来的开销。
图2描述了另一种传统的住宅接收高速数字数据的方法,许多电话公司利用数字用户线路(DSL)技术,通过传统的双绞线来提供电话信号和高速数字数据服务。DSL数据信号典型的传送频带与电话语音信号频带相隔离,从而能将数字数据与语音数据区分开,并传送到计算机系统中。DSL网络的优点是能够利用现有的电话线在住宅之中传送数据。
为了向家庭用户提供网络功能,而不需要安装专用的网络电缆,一种叫作Home PNA的新技术可允许数据通过传统的电话线20在计算机之间或计算机与外部设备之间传送,它的开发者是由不同的公司组成,包括3Com、AMD、ATT、Compaq、Conexant、IBM、Intel和Lucent等公司。Home PNA信号的传送频带与电话语音信号和DSL数据信号的频带不相同。根据目前的规定,电话语音信号占用的频带为0.1-4KHz,DSL在用户到中心的传送频带为85-95KHz,而从中心到用户方向的频带为100-500KHz。Home PNA信号目前规定在频率范围5.5-9.5MHz中传送。
为了在传统的电话线中接收DSL、Home PNA和传统的模拟调制解调信号,一个计算机系统40典型地包含有多达3块接口卡42、44、45,它们滤取出各自的信号,并将它们提供到中央处理单元46或者其他计算机组件中。接口卡42、44、45中包括模拟滤波器元件,它们昂贵、体积大且在制作过程中难于校准。而且,每个接口卡都要占用一个独立的计算机插槽,因此降低了计算机支持其他卡的能力。另外,如果计算机能够在传统电话网络中传送数据,则还需要电话调制解调卡。
为了避免通过不同的协议在传统电话电路中发送和接收数据,从而使用多个卡,本发明的一个实施例是组合接口卡100,显示如图3。接口100中包含一个隔离电路102,最好是包括一个光隔离器,能够避免在家庭电话线电路20中产生电话信号所需的高压到达所连接的计算机系统40中。隔离电路102将信号送入模数/数模转换器104。模数/数模转换器104将从隔离电路102中所接收的模拟信号转换为相应的数字值,反之亦然。数字分路/组合器106连接到模数/数模转换器104。数字分路/组合器是一种单个集成数字信号处理电路,或者是离散逻辑电路组合,它对从模数/数模转换器104中所接收的数字信号进行数字滤波操作。在本发明目前优选的实施例中,数字分路/组合器106对来自3个频带的数字信号进行滤波。在电话语音信号频带中的数字信号被提供给PCM调制解调电路108。在DSL频带中的信号提供给DSL电路110,以被计算机来发送和接收DSL信号。最后,处于Home PNA频带中的信号传送到Home PNA电路112,然后计算机系统用它来与其他计算机或者外部设备在HomePNA网络中发送并接收信号。有关PCM调制解调、DSL电路和Home PNA电路的知识,对于计算机通信领域中的普通技术人员来说应该有所掌握。
在相反的方向,数字分路/组合器106能够接收来自Home PNA电路112、DSL电路110和PCM调制解调电路108的数字信号,并将信号组合后提供给数模/模数转换器104。
数字分路/组合器106的优点在于大多数或所有模拟元件不需要用来进行滤波。因此接口电路100能够在单个卡上实现,并用于计算机在三个不同的频带中进行通信。因为采用了数字滤波,不需要体积大的模拟元件,没有元件需要校准,所以制作上得到简化。假定已知要滤波的信号所在频带的描述、所属领域中的普通技术人员都已经掌握数字分路/组合器的详细知识。比如,美国专利第5,889,856号(O’Toole所有)显示了数字分路器的设计,它对处于两个频带中的数字信号进行滤波。
由上可知,本发明是具有单接口的插卡,它允许计算机系统在现有的家庭线路中以多个频带进行通信,而不需要利用体积大而昂贵的模拟滤波器元件。

Claims (3)

1.一种用于从住宅电话线中发送并接收数字数据信号的接口卡,它包括:
一个模数转换器,用于接收在所述电话线中的模拟数据信号并将所述模拟数据信号转换成相应的数字数据信号;和
一个数据分路器,它对在多个频带中的数字数据信号进行滤波,所述频带包括Home PNA频带、DSL频带和语音频带,用于将滤波后数据提供给通信电路,该通信电路可传送并接收在住宅电话线中传送的Home PNA信号、DSL信号和数据信号。
2.根据权利要求1所述的接口卡,其特征在于,进一步包括一个数字组合器,它将多个频带,包括Home PNA频带、DSL频带和语音频带等,组合为一个单一的数字数据信号;和
一个数模转换器,用于将所述单一的数字数据信号转换成一个模拟数据信号,以便在住宅电话线中进行传输。
3.一种将一个计算机系统与住宅电话通信链路介接以在多个频带中传送并接收数字数据的方法,包括:
将具有位于多个频带中的频率的模拟数据信号转换成一个组合的数字数据信号;
将所述组合的数字数据信号提供给一个数字滤波器,该滤波器对每个频带中的分量进行滤波;并且
将每一个频带中的分量提供给相应的在所述频带中接收和发送数据的通信电路。
其中,所述滤波器对在Home PNA频带、DSL频带和语音频带中的分量进行滤波。
