The invention relates to a device for treating hair, in particular for styling hair, in particular for straightening hair, having at least one active part comprising at least one light-emitting source capable of emitting light radiation with a dominant wavelength peak between 0.8 μm and 5 μm towards the hair. The invention also relates to a method for treating hair using such a device, in particular for straightening hair.
Description
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a device for treating hair and relates more particularly, but not exclusively, to a device for styling hair, in particular for straightening, curling or perming hair.
Background
Many devices of this type, sometimes also referred to as straightening hair irons (irons) or curling hair irons, have been proposed.
Circular hair irons for curling hair by emitting Infrared (IR) light radiation, in particular far infrared light radiation, as described in the utility model applications CN 203388436 or CN 207912293 or in the application KR20140135462, are known, wherein the radiation is generated by a heating element. The emission can be achieved by specific materials, in particular based on metal oxides, such as the materials in the wavelength range between 5 μm and 10 μm in application EP 244 522.
The utility model CN207270051 describes the use of infrared Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) to emit far infrared light radiation. Similarly, application JP 2018029815 describes a circular hair iron with a brush and implementing infrared radiation emitted by LEDs, the preferred wavelength range of which is 4 μm to 1000 μm, and possibly replaced or expanded by wavelengths of visible, near infrared or mid infrared. Patent US4602143 describes a hair curler with a non-specific internal source that emits IR radiation in the wavelength range of 1 μm to 7 μm. These circular hair curlers may have hinged arms for holding hair during a hair curling operation, as described in the above documents CN207270051U, US4602143, CN207912293U, EP 244522.
Hair irons having flat clamps for straightening hair are also known. Typically, these devices consist of two arms connected together by means of a hinge enabling the opening and closing of the arms, and at least one heating element provided on the arms. During the operation of styling the hair strand, the hair strand is introduced between the two arms in the open position, and then the two arms are manually closed on the hair strand. The hair strand is then subjected to the heat emitted by the heating element until the arms are opened and the hair strand is removed. As described in the utility model CN 202233628, these devices may or may not include a light source that emits Infrared (IR) light radiation, in particular far infrared light radiation.
The emission of IR light radiation can be achieved by metal oxides, as described in documents KR 20040104199, KR 20060130975 and KR 20100025383, or far IR between 5 μm and 10 μm, as described in KR 20120007813, using ruthenium oxide, or as described in KR 20170103282, using derivatives of magnesium, as described in EP 273 538. Application JP 2018015538 discloses the emission of far infrared or near infrared radiation by mineral powders with graphene. Application KR 200441099 discloses a straightening iron having a flat grip with a brush at the bottom and using ceramics with far infrared emission in the wavelength range between 2.5 μm and 1000 μm.
The utility models CN 206744833, CN 207784575, CN 202335497 and KR 20100008911 describe the use of IR emitters with lamps and the utility model CN 207912291 also employs a steam generator. Document CN 201504727 mentions the use of LED sources to emit far infrared light radiation.
In these documents describing straightening irons, the main role of IR is to exert physiological effects, such as activating the blood circulation and metabolism of the scalp, or protecting the hair from damage. The IR light emitted by the appliance is not sufficiently efficient for the operation of styling hair and requires the additional presence of heating means, which may lead to a risk of hair damage.
Accordingly, there is a need for improved hair treatment devices, particularly those designed to straighten hair, so as to effectively, uniformly, permanently and quickly style the hair, and to preserve the hair fibers as much as possible.
Disclosure of Invention
Processing device
The present invention aims at meeting this need, the subject of which is a device for treating hair, in particular for styling hair, in particular for straightening hair, having at least one active portion comprising at least one light-emitting source capable of emitting towards the hair a light radiation having a dominant wavelength peak between 0.8 μm and 5 μm.
The preferred wavelength range is located in the near infrared and at the beginning of the mid-infrared.
The invention enables rapid, effective, uniform and permanent styling, in particular straightening, of hair with limited damage by means of controlled heat provided by infrared radiation in a specific wavelength range of the main emission peak. In particular, in this wavelength range, the hair is subjected to lower temperatures and the device according to the invention better maintains the integrity of thicker hair, even after repeated use over time. Notably, the application of steam to the hair can be omitted.
In fact, the main elements constituting the hair, namely keratin, water and melanin, have different light absorbing capacities: the more the wavelength increases, the less light is absorbed by the melanin, as opposed to water. In particular, the present invention makes it possible to not discolor hair given the resonance frequency of each component of hair, because light acts mainly on water and rarely on melanin in the range of the dominant wavelength peak used.
The device according to the invention is preferably a device for straightening, curling or perming hair. The invention is very particularly suitable for straightening hair.
The device according to the invention can be used for wet hair, the infrared light acting mainly on water molecules, so that the hair is dried while being styling, without damaging other components of the hair.
The device may have means for applying the cosmetic product. The member may be an end piece made of felt or foam, which is porous and filled with the product. In this case, the device may have a reservoir containing the cosmetic product to be applied.
The device can be configured to apply steam to hair and for this purpose has in particular a water reservoir, a heating element and a steam outlet.
Arm and clamp
The device according to the invention advantageously has two arms movable with respect to each other between a moving together configuration for treating hair and a separating configuration for inserting hair to be treated between the arms, the arms defining a half-handle (half-handle) which continues towards its distal end by means of a clamp, the at least one light-emitting source according to the invention being carried by one of the two clamps.
Preferably, at least one of the two clamps is flat, and more preferably both clamps are flat.
In a variant, each of the two jaws carries at least one active portion comprising at least one luminous source according to the invention capable of emitting radiation with a dominant wavelength peak between 0.8 μm and 5 μm towards the hair.
Preferably, the two arms extend along respective longitudinal axes. Preferably, the two arms are connected by a hinge present at their proximal ends, which hinge defines an axis of rotation, which is preferably oriented perpendicular to the plane defined by the longitudinal axes of the arms.
Preferably, the two clamps in contact with the hair are flat.
The clamp advantageously has no heating element other than one or more active portions comprising one or more light sources. This makes it possible to dispense with supplementary heating means, for example a ceramic heating plate comprising resistors.
The at least one light source may be disposed at the center or end of the jaw of the arm.
However, in one variation, at least one of the two clamps has at least one additional heating element for contacting the hair, or even each of the two clamps has at least one additional heating element. The at least one additional heating element preferably has a plate defining a hot surface for contact with hair, which plate is made in particular of a good thermal conductor, for example of metal, glass or ceramic. The heating plate or plates may define a hair contacting surface having a temperature of greater than or equal to 90 ℃, preferably from 90 ℃ to 250 ℃, even more preferably from 110 ℃ to 230 ℃. Preferably, the device has two flat heating plates, each provided on the clamp and facing each other in the moved together configuration of the arms.
Preferably, at least one heating plate has a flat surface in contact with hair.
In this case, the treatment is preferably carried out at a surface temperature of the clamp in the range of 90 ℃ to 250 ℃, more preferably 110 ℃ to 230 ℃.
The at least one light source may be arranged at the periphery of the additional heating element, perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the arm, upstream or downstream of the additional heating element with respect to the direction through the hair. The at least one light source thus extends transversely with respect to the heating element carried by the same arm, preferably upstream of the heating element during use of the device on hair.
In a variant, the at least one light source extends on or within an additional heating element carried by the same arm. Coupling the light source with such an additional heating element makes it possible in particular to increase the temperature more quickly and to reduce the energy transmitted by the additional heating element, in order to limit damage to the hair.
In this case, the at least one light source and the at least one additional heating element may be supplied independently of each other, in particular from different power sources. The at least one light source may be powered while the at least one additional heating element is not powered, or vice versa. In a variant, the at least one light source and the at least one additional heating element are powered by the same power source.
The at least one light source may be separated from the at least one additional heating element carried by the same arm by a thermal barrier that limits heat transfer between the at least one light source and the at least one additional heating element. The thermal barrier may be formed by an empty space between the light source and the additional heating element or by a material that is not thermally conductive.
The device may have one or more sensors for sensing the temperature of the at least one additional heating element.
The device may have a plate transparent to the radiation of said at least one light source, the plate being located between said light source and the hair. The plate may be smooth or have elements with optical effects such as lenses to concentrate light or conversely diffuse light.
The plate transparent to the radiation of the at least one light source may be located at a non-zero distance from the at least one light source, thereby forming a void between the light source and the plate, the distance preferably being less than or equal to 10mm, more particularly less than or equal to 5mm.
Preferably, the two arms extend along respective longitudinal axes. Preferably, the two arms are connected by a hinge present at their proximal ends, which hinge defines an axis of rotation, which is preferably oriented perpendicular to the plane defined by the longitudinal axes of the arms.

The one or more light sources may have at least one infrared emitter comprising carbon filaments having a length in the range 200mm to 400mm, in particular equal to 300 mm.
The surface power density produced on the hair by the one or more light sources may be in the range of 0.1W/cm 2 to 100W/cm 2, more preferably 0.2W/cm 2 to 70W/cm 2, still more preferably 0.3W/cm 2 to 50W/cm 2.
In a variant, the one or more light sources advantageously emit optical radiation having a dominant wavelength peak in the range 1.1 μm to 2 μm, in particular equal to 1.6 μm.
In a further variant, the one or more light sources emit optical radiation having a dominant wavelength peak in the range of 2.9 μm to 4 μm, in particular equal to 3.4 μm.
When the device according to the invention does not have a heating element other than the one or more light sources, the at least one light source may be arranged at the centre or at the end of the jaws of the arm of the device. The device may have a plurality of light sources, in particular arranged in one or more rows, or in an array of light sources.
The at least one light source may be a pulsed light source.
The at least one light source may have a variable wavelength, such as a semiconductor laser subjected to hydrostatic pressure.
The device according to the invention may have a sensor configured to detect the opening of the clamp and a deactivation element for deactivating the at least one light-emitting source when the clamp is open.
When the device has a plurality of light sources, the device may have elements for selectively illuminating the light sources, in particular according to the emission wavelength of the light sources, the width and/or length of the hair tresses and/or the treatment to be performed. When the light sources are arranged in a plurality of rows, the selective lighting element may be configured to light only one row or some rows. This also enables irregular styling effects to be provided.
The device may have a sensor for sensing the temperature of the emitted light and a system for adjusting, in particular by pulse width modulation, the power of the at least one light source.
Treatment method
According to another aspect of the present invention, a further subject of the present invention is a method for treating hair, in particular styling hair, in particular straightening hair, using a device for treating hair, in particular according to the present invention, wherein, in said method, at least one hair strand is exposed to light radiation having a dominant wavelength peak between 0.8 μm and 5 μm for treating hair.
Preferably, the treatment device is a device according to the invention.
The device may be moved towards the hair tress or the device may be moved along the hair tress for treatment.
The method may involve treating one hair lock at a time.
Furthermore, the heat treatment is advantageously carried out by bringing the hair strand into contact with at least one additional heating element of the device, in particular a heating plate, better by passing the hair strand between two additional heating elements of the device positioned opposite each other.
The method according to the invention may have the additional step of applying one or more hair compositions to all or part of the hair to be treated before, during or after use of the device according to the invention, preferably before use.

Detailed Description
Fig. 1 shows a handpiece 2 of an example of a hair treatment device according to the invention.
In this example, the device is a straightening device, the handpiece 2 having two jaws 3 and 4 which are movable with respect to each other between a separated configuration (not shown) for introducing the hair tresses between said jaws and a moved together configuration for treatment, shown in fig. 1.
The jaws 3 and 4 are carried by an upper arm 5 and a lower arm 6, respectively, which upper arm 5 and lower arm 6 are connected together at one end by a hinge 8 in the example in question, so that the handpiece 2 forms a clamp.
Arms 5 and 6 define respective handle halves 10 and 11 between hinge 8 and jaws 3 and 4, and a user can press on handles halves 10 and 11 to move jaws 3 and 4 together.
A resilient return member (not visible), such as a spring provided around the pin of the hinge 8, is preferably provided to return the jaws 3 and 4 to the separated configuration.
The invention is not limited to the particular way in which the arms 5 and 6 are connected together and the jaws 3 and 4 may be moved in some other way without departing from the scope of the invention. However, the presence of the hinge is highly preferred as it provides ergonomics.
The jaws 3 and 4 define between each other an area for treating the hair, said area being intended to receive a hair strand to be treated along which the handpiece 2 moves during the treatment, for example in the direction from the root to the end.
In the example discussed, the device is configured to heat treat hair by exposing the hair to a light source having a particular dominant wavelength peak, as described below.
The direction of movement D of the handpiece 2 on the hair is preferably substantially perpendicular to its longitudinal axis X.
In the example in question, the handpiece 2 is connected by a line 14 to a base station (not shown) which is fixed during processing and is connected to the mains.
The base station provides power to the handpiece 2 and may also perform the additional function of processing the electrical signals received from the handpiece 2. Thus, the lines 14 connecting the handpiece 2 to the base station can have various electrical conductors.
A user interface (not shown) may be present on the handpiece to allow a user to, for example, activate or deactivate certain components thereof.
The device according to the invention has at least one active part 16, as shown in fig. 2, comprising at least one light-emitting source 22, which light-emitting source 22 is capable of emitting optical radiation with a dominant wavelength peak between 0.8 μm and 5 μm towards the hair.
The device according to the invention advantageously has at least one sensor (not shown) configured to detect the opening of the clamps 3, 4 and to cause the deactivation of one or more sources 22 when the clamps are open.
In the example of fig. 2, each of the two clamps 3, 4 carries an active portion 16, which active portion 16 comprises a plurality of pulsed light sources 22, which are arranged at the lateral ends of the clamps of the arm. In this example, the one or more light sources have at least one light emitting diode that emits infrared light. In one variant, the light source has a plurality of light emitting diodes having different wavelengths, but at least some of them have a dominant wavelength peak according to the invention. In another variation, the light source has at least one carbon infrared emitter.
The surface power density generated by the light source 22 on the hair may be in the range of 0.1W/cm 2 to 100W/cm 2, more preferably 0.2W/cm 2 to 70W/cm 2, and even more preferably 0.3W/cm 2 to 50W/cm 2.
In the example shown, the device has a plate 18, which plate 18 is smooth and transparent to the radiation of the light source 22 and is located between the light source 22 and the hair.
The length l of the active portion 16 defines the extent of the treatment area perpendicular to the direction of movement D of the handpiece 2 relative to the hair. For example, the active portion 16 is flat and has a rectangular profile, as shown in fig. 2.
In the variant of fig. 3, the light source 22 is arranged in the center of the active part 16 and has a halogen lamp with carbon filaments having a diameter equal to 10mm and a length equal to 300 mm. The light source 22 is capable of emitting optical radiation having a dominant wavelength peak equal to 1.64 μm towards the hair. In a variant not shown, the carbon filaments have a diameter equal to 19mm, a length equal to 300mm and a dominant wavelength peak equal to 3.48 μm.
In the example described with reference to fig. 2 and 3, the clamp of the arm has no additional heating element other than the active portion 16 comprising one or more light sources.
In the variant shown in fig. 4, each of the two clamps has an additional heating element for contact with the hair, these additional heating elements each having a plate 14, 15, the plates 14, 15 defining a hot surface for contact with the hair and being carried by the upper arm 5 and the lower arm 6, respectively. The heating plates 14 and 15 are made of any material suitable for the treatment to be performed, such as metal, ceramic or glass.
In this case, the light source 22 may be arranged at the periphery of the heating plates 14, 15 and extend transversely with respect to the heating plates 14, 15 upstream of the additional heating elements during use of the device on hair, as shown in fig. 4. The device may have one or more sensors for sensing the temperature of the additional heating element (not shown).
In the variant shown in fig. 5, a light source 22, i.e. a halogen lamp with carbon filaments, is arranged within the heating plate 15 along the longitudinal axis X of the handpiece.
Fig. 6 shows the plate 18 transparent to the radiation of the light source 22, the light source 22 being at a non-zero distance d p from the plate, so that a space is formed between the light source 22 and the plate. In this example there is also a heating plate 15, the light sources being arranged transversely with respect to the heating plate 15.
In the described example, the light source and the additional heating element are powered independently of each other, in particular by different power sources. In a variant, the light source and the additional heating element are powered by the same power supply.
The surface condition of the plates 14 and 15 in the area of contact with the hair depends on the desired treatment and preferably the plates are substantially smooth when the device is used to straighten hair.
One of the plates is mounted, for example in a fixed manner, on the respective arm, while the other plate is mounted in an articulated manner, for example by means of a ball joint, allowing the plates to extend parallel to each other and to the intermediate treatment plane in the closed configuration of the clamp. If appropriate, at least one plate is provided on one of the arms 5 and 6, supported by the structure forming the spring.
The heating plates 14 and 15 may each have a resistor powered by the base station, preferably temperature regulated by one or more sensors disposed near or in contact with the heating resistor.
When a user wishes to style their hair, they move the device according to the invention towards the hair tress, or they move the device along the hair tress, so as to expose the hair tress to the active portion 16. They then repeat this operation on the other hair tresses until the desired styling effect is achieved.
This treatment makes it possible to fix the shape of the hair.
Many modifications may be made to the apparatus just described without departing from the scope of the invention.
Other types of light emitting sources may be used, and/or the light sources may be arranged in some other way.
The device may also be configured to treat by spraying steam and/or applying a hair product in the form of one or more cosmetic compositions, preferably comprising at least one agent for breaking disulfide bonds present in the hair, said composition preferably comprising at least one thiol. The device may have steam means and means for applying a cosmetic product (these not shown) arranged to contact hair extending through the treatment area.
The steam means may consist of a resistive element present in a steam chamber provided with water by the base station or with water by a reservoir present in the device. The steam chamber is arranged on one of the arms, and the steam outlet is arranged on the same arm. The base station may have an electrically driven pump, preferably a peristaltic pump, which draws water from a water reservoir to be transferred to the handpiece 2. The device itself may have a peristaltic pump. The pump is for example as disclosed in publication FR 2 967 018. The steam chamber may be manufactured according to the teachings in application EP 2449909A1 or in some other way and is in communication with at least one steam outlet.
The steam flow rate is preferably in the range of 0.7g/min to 0.9 g/min.
The cosmetic product is preferably contained in a reservoir carried by the upper arm 5 of the handpiece 2. The applicator member 23 is fed by means of a product dispensing mechanism that is automatically actuated during use of the handpiece 2.
