Referring to fig. 1 and 2, the electrical connector assembly 1000 includes an electrical connector 100 and a plug connector 200, wherein the electrical connector 100 is respectively mated with two other mating connectors 300 at the upper and lower ends thereof. Referring to fig. 2-3 and fig. 7-9, the electrical connector 100 includes a base 1 and two first terminals 2 held to the base 1. The base 1 has an upper end face 11, a lower end face 12, and a front end face 13 connecting the upper and lower end faces. The first terminal 2 includes a first contact portion 21 protruding from the lower end face 12, a second contact portion 22 protruding from the upper end face 11, and an intermediate portion 23 connected between the first and second contact portions. The two first terminals 2 are arranged in parallel and at a distance. The base 1 is provided with a docking chamber 14 penetrating forward through a front end surface thereof, and an intermediate portion 23 is fixed to the base 1 and partially exposed to the docking chamber 14 to form a third contact portion 230. The plug connector 200 is inserted into the mating cavity 14 and mated with the third contact 230. In the present embodiment, the first terminal 2 has a flat plate structure, the third contact portions 230 are respectively located on opposite inner wall surfaces of the mating cavity 14, and the third contact portions 230 are disposed opposite to each other. The electrical connector 100 is electrically connected to the plug connector in the horizontal direction while being mated with the two mating connectors 300 in the vertical direction by dividing the first terminal 2 into a plurality of contact areas, i.e., the first, second and third contact portions, and the structural complexity of the electrical connector itself is avoided.
The electrical connector 100 includes a metal housing 3, and the base 1 is fixed in the metal housing 3. The metal frame 3 forms a downward first opening 31 around the first contact portion 21, the metal frame 3 forms an upward second opening 32 around the second contact portion 22, and the metal frame 3 has a third opening 33 for exposing the docking chamber 14 outward. The first contact portions 21 extend upwardly beyond the corresponding first openings 31 and the second contact portions 22 extend downwardly beyond the corresponding second openings 32. The metal frame 3 extends outwardly at the top and bottom edges of the third opening 33 to form a ground 34 for clamping the plug connector 200. Referring to fig. 4-9, the plug connector 200 includes an insulative housing 4, a second terminal 5 secured to the housing 4, and a cable 6. The insulating body 4 has a terminal groove 41 penetrating a side surface and a front end surface thereof, and one end of the second terminal 5 is connected to the cable 6 in the terminal groove 41. The second terminal 5 is an arc-shaped bent structure, and extends from the front end surface to the side surface of the insulating body 4. The second terminal 5 includes an abutting portion 51 exposed to a side surface of the insulating body 4 and a holding portion 52 held with the insulating body 4. The abutting portion 51 abuts against the third contact portion 230. The insulating body 4 has a holding groove 42 penetrating forward through its front end face, and the holding portion 52 is fitted to the holding groove 42 from front to back. The plug connector 300 contacts the middle portion of the first terminal 2 through the arc-shaped bent second terminal 5, and ensures stable mating with the plug connector.
The insulating body 4 is provided at its side rear end with an outwardly projecting holding block 461. When the plug connector 200 is inserted into the mating cavity 14, the abutment block 461 abuts the front edge of the intermediate portion 23. The second terminals 5 are mounted to the terminal grooves 41 from front to rear. The cable 6 has a wire core 61 that is held with the second terminal 5 in the terminal groove 41, and the free end of the second terminal 5 extends from the abutting portion 51 into the terminal groove 41 and is adjacent to the wire core 61, and the wire core 61 can prevent the second terminal 5 from being excessively deflected inward when abutted.
The insulating body 4 is provided with a chute 43 penetrating the front end surface and the top surface thereof, and a step portion 44 provided at the rear end of the chute 43. The mating cavity 14 of the electrical connector 100 extends forward from the inner bottom surface thereof to form a latch arm 111 (shown in fig. 9), the latch arm 111 is located between the two third contact portions 230, and the latch arm 111 slides along the sliding slot 43 and is retained to the step portion 44, thereby achieving the engagement of the plug connector 200 and the electrical connector 100. While the plug connector 200 is also provided with a grounding member 7 connected to the shielding layer 62 provided for the cable 6. The grounding member 7 is fixed to the insulating body 4 and has a grounding plate 71 attached to an outer surface of the insulating body 4. In the present embodiment, the number of the grounding members 7 is two and is arranged symmetrically up and down. The grounding plates 71 of the two grounding members 7 are respectively attached to the top surface and the bottom surface of the insulating body 4, wherein the grounding plates 71 attached to the top surface are located behind the sliding groove 43. Referring to fig. 7, the insulating body 4 includes a front insulating body 46 and a rear insulating body 47 assembled together front and rear. The rear insulator 47 has a front end surface provided with a retaining arm 471 extending forward, and the retaining arm 471 is retained by the retaining block 461 of the front insulator 46. The grounding member 7 is sandwiched between the front and rear insulating bodies 46, 47. One end of the grounding member 7 is connected to the shielding layer 62 of the cable 6, and the other end thereof extends further rearward from the rear edge of the grounding plate 71 to form a fixing portion 711 embedded in the rear insulating body 47.
