Description

Protective housing for protecting an electrical connector
Technical Field
The present invention claims priority from french application n° 2104342 filed on month 27 of 2021, the contents of which application (text, figures and claims) are incorporated herein by reference.
The present invention relates to the field of electrical connection protectors, and in particular to the protection of battery connectors for motor vehicles.
Background
This protection serves to prevent the risk of short circuits between the connectors and also to prevent the risk of external intrusion, which occurs, for example, after an intervention by the operator for the maintenance of the vehicle or an intervention carried out during the transport of the battery.
From the patent document CN109066924A1 a battery is known, comprising a protector comprising a cover hinged about an axis forming a hinge and intended to cover the connector.
While this type of device has the advantage that the cover is mechanically coupled to the battery and is therefore indispensable, it has the drawback that the hinge remains fragile so that external intrusion may dislocate the cover.
Disclosure of Invention
The object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback by providing an improvement to the device.
To this end, an object of the present invention is to provide a protective housing for protecting an electrical connector, the housing comprising:
a base for receiving the electrical connector,
a cover for covering the base to define a space enclosing the connector when in a closed position on the base,
a pivoting hinge member for hinging the cover on the base between an open position, in which the connector is accessible, and a closed position,
the housing includes an electrically separating bulkhead for separating two adjacent connectors, the bulkhead including a first portion integral with the base and a second portion integral with the cover, the first and second portions configured to partially overlap each other when the cover is in the closed position.
This partial overlap allows for supplemental support of the cover on the base (e.g., in addition to support of the perimeter of the cover on the base). Moreover, the supplemental support may:
in the central portion of the hood to achieve a more uniform distribution of the forces in the event of a collision on the hood, and/or
-oriented differently from the peripheral support.
Thereby, a portion of the impact is mechanically accepted by the electrically-partitioned barrier while preserving the integrity of the pivotally-hinged member, regardless of the direction of the impact (particularly when the impact is oriented along the peripheral support plane).
According to an embodiment of the invention, the first portion and the second portion are in contact with each other when the cover is in the closed position.
Thereby, the acceptance of the collision on the partition wall is instantaneous. Moreover, this contact allows a mechanical prestress between the first part and the second part, thereby participating in a mechanical locking of the cover on the base.
According to an embodiment of the invention, the first and second portions are configured for engagement when the cover is in the closed position.
Thereby, the collision is accepted by the partition wall regardless of the direction of the collision.
According to an embodiment of the invention, the first or second part is a double wall comprising a space between the two walls, and the second or first part, respectively, is a single wall for intrusion into the space when the cover is in the closed position.
According to an embodiment of the invention, the first portion and/or the second portion comprises a curved surface, which is curved around the axis of rotation of the pivoting hinge member.
This arrangement allows for a greater contact surface between the two parts and thus greater rigidity of the cover/base combination (although the cover has a rotational movement to close on the base).
According to an embodiment of the invention, the centre of curvature of the curved surface is carried by the axis of rotation of the pivoting hinge member.
It is also an object of the present invention to provide an electrical connection housing comprising:
a protective housing for protecting an electrical connector as described above,
-two of the electrical connectors comprising pins, the axes of which are parallel to the hinge axis of the pivoting hinge part.
According to an embodiment of the invention, the pin is a threaded rod capable of receiving a bus bar (barre omnibus) of a battery and a nut for tightening the rod on the threaded rod.
Note that the bus bar may be replaced by any current conductor configured for joining with the pin (in particular an electrical lug crimped or soldered on the end of an electrical cable). The lug comprises, for example, an eyelet through which the pin passes.
It is also an object of the present invention to provide a battery comprising a protective housing as described above or an electrical connection housing as described above.
It is also an object of the present invention to provide a motor vehicle comprising a protective housing as described above or an electrical connection housing as described above.
Drawings
Other features and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent from reading the following detailed description of non-limiting specific embodiments of the invention and the accompanying drawings, in which:
fig. 1 shows a perspective view of a protective housing according to the invention.
Figure 2 shows a protective housing according to the invention in a sectional view taken orthogonally with respect to the axis of the pivoting hinge part. The same cross-section also shows an electrical connection housing according to the invention.
Fig. 3 shows a cross-section through the axis of one of the connectors of the electrical connection housing according to the invention, taken orthogonally with respect to fig. 2.
Detailed Description
It is noted that these drawings are given by way of example only and do not limit the invention. The drawings constitute a schematic view, not necessarily to scale, for facilitating an understanding of the principles of the invention. Also, in the following, reference is made to all the accompanying drawings taken in combination. When referring to one or more particular drawings, these drawings are taken in combination with other drawings to identify the referenced numerals. The reference numerals for elements that are unchanged or have the same function are common to all the figures and the implementation variants.
These figures disclose a protective housing for protecting an electrical connector 1,2, the housing comprising:
a base 3 for housing the electrical connectors 1,2,
a cover 4 for covering the base 3 to define a space enclosing the connectors 1,2 when in a closed position on the base 3,
a pivoting hinge part 5 for hinging the cover 4 on the base 3 between an open position in which the connectors 1,2 are accessible and a closed position.
The pivoting hinge part 5 is for example a hinge comprising a two-sleeve hinge (pamule) for hinging the cover 4 to the base 3, but may more simply be a hook of the cover 4 hinged in a notch of the base 3 or more simply a thinned portion of material between the cover 4 and the base 3, the base 3 and the cover 4 being embodied as a single piece by moulding.
The cover 4 and the base 3 are for example made of a plastic material, or at least of an electrically insulating material.
The housing comprises an electrically separating partition 6 for separating adjacent two connectors 1,2, which partition 6 comprises a first portion 61 integral with the base 3 and a second portion 62 integral with the cover 4, said first and second portions being configured for being partially overlapped when the cover 4 is in said closed position.
The partition 6, like the cover 4 and the base 3, is made of an electrically insulating material, advantageously being integrally formed with the base 3 and/or with the cover 4 by moulding.
The first portion 61 integral with the base 3 serves to avoid short-circuiting between the two connectors 1,2 during the assembly operation intended to connect the conductor element with the connectors 1,2 (while the cover 4 is in the open position). For example, when an operator tightens the nut of the connector using a metal wrench, and when the wrench slips or is improperly positioned, the first portion 61 prevents the improper position and/or slip by creating an obstruction to the wrench. The first portion 61 thus serves to separate two adjacent connectors 1, 2. As shown on fig. 2, the first portion 61 takes the form of two "cs" joined back-to-back, which partially encircle each connector 1, 2. In a variant, however, the first portion 61 may be a simple flat baffle, or have any other form.
The first and second portions 61, 62 are in contact with each other, for example when the cover 4 is in said closed position.
The first and second portions 61, 62 are for example configured to fit when the cover 4 is in said closed position.
By fitting is meant, for example, that the first or second portion 61, 62 is a double wall comprising a space 63 between the two walls, and that the second or first portion 62, 61, respectively, is a single wall for intrusion into this space 63 when the cover 4 is in said closed position.
For example, the first and/or second portions 61, 62 comprise curved surfaces 91, 92 which are curved about the axis of rotation of the pivoting hinge member 5.
Thus, the curved surfaces 91, 92 have concave surfaces facing the pivotal hinge part 5. In the example shown in fig. 2, the second portion 62 includes a first curved surface 91. The first portion 61 also includes a second curved surface 92 that is one of the branches of one of the two "C" that are joined back-to-back. This configuration is not mandatory and, for example, as described above, the first portion 61 may be a simple flat partition, while the second portion 62 comprises a first curved surface 91 that gently touches the first portion 61 when the cover 4 is closed.
For example, but not shown, the centre of curvature of the curved surfaces 91, 92 is carried by or coincides with the axis of rotation of the pivoting hinge part 5.
Note that in order to maintain the cover 4 closed on the base 3, it is advantageous to have the protective casing comprise locking means 10 (for example screws or clamps) for locking the cover 4 on the base 3, as shown on fig. 2. The locking member 10 is advantageously, but not necessarily, for example located at the end of the cover 4 furthest from the pivoting hinge member 5. For example, to effect the non-openable closure of the cover 4, the locking member 10 is a clamp positioned on the second portion 62 for locking the first portion 61 on the second portion: when the cover 4 is closed, the clip becomes inaccessible and subsequent opening of the cover 4 requires at least breaking of the clip (this is expressed as opening of the cover 4).
The figures also disclose an electrical connection housing comprising:
a protective housing for protecting the electrical connectors 1,2,
two of the electrical connectors 1,2 comprising pins whose axes are parallel to the hinge axis of the pivoting hinge part 5.
For example, these elongated connectors 1,2 pass through both sides of the thickness of the base 3, so that each of the two ends of the electrical connectors 1,2 can be electrically coupled with an electrical circuit 70, 71, 72: thereby effecting a sealed electrical connection through the base 3.
Such as a threaded rod capable of receiving a bus bar 70 of a battery and a nut, not shown, for tightening the bar 70 on the threaded rod.
For example, a first end of the electrical connector 1,2 receives the bus bar 70, while a second end of the electrical connector 1,2 receives an electrical tab that is crimped or welded to an end of the electrical cable 71. The lug comprises, for example, an eyelet 72 which is penetrated by the pin and fastened thereto by a nut 8.
Other types of connectors 1,2 are conceivable, such as pins with clamping means for clamping a conductor on the end, or a connection by welding with the conductor, or a connection by friction and/or fastening. Likewise, the pin may be implemented in multiple parts, such as a threaded male rod that is screwed into a threaded female rod.
Moreover, the electrical connection housing comprises, for example, sealing means for effecting tightness between these connectors 1,2 and the base 3. The example shown by fig. 3 discloses connectors 1,2 which are overmolded in the thickness of the base 3. The connector comprises, for example, a ring-like element centred on the axis of the pin and buried in the thickness of the base 3 to ensure the mechanical properties and tightness of the connector 1,2 in the base 3.
The invention is applicable, for example, to batteries and/or motor vehicles that include a protective housing or an electrical connection housing. For example, for a battery for powering a driving machine of a motor vehicle, the base 3 forms a fixed engagement plate on the face of the tray or housing of said battery, and the connectors 1,2 coincide with openings applied in the wall of said tray or housing, which are closed by said plate. In a variant, the base 3 is directly integrally formed with the tray or housing, for example by moulding, whereby the base 3 is the tray or housing.
Throughout this document, "battery" is understood to include an assembly of at least one battery module containing at least one electrochemical cell.
The battery optionally includes electrical or electronic components to manage the electrical energy of at least one module. When there are a plurality of modules, the modules are typically reassembled in the tray or housing and thereby form a battery pack, often referred to by the english term "battery pack", which housing typically contains the assembled joints and the connecting terminals and forms a closed space around the modules while enclosing the battery pack between the bottom and the cover.
In addition, throughout this document, an "electrochemical cell" is understood to be a cell that generates an electric current by a chemical reaction, for example of the lithium ion (or Li-ion) type, of the Ni-Mh type, of the Ni-Cd type or of the lead type, or of the fuel cell type.
Advantageously, the cover 4 comprises a peripheral edge 11 which abuts against the base 3 when the cover 4 is in said closed position. The protective housing comprises, for example, a sealing member compressed between the peripheral edge and the base 3. The sealing means are, for example, via a gasket interposed between the peripheral edge 11 and the base 3, or from a two-material molding method for molding the cover 4 or the base 3, or from a simple covering of the peripheral edge 11 by the corresponding edge of the base 3. For example, fig. 3 shows the peripheral edge 11 invading into the throat of the base 3, whereby the coverage is ensured.
