Description
[ field of technology ]
The present invention relates to a device management method, and more particularly, to a storage device management method.
[ background Art ]
Referring to FIG. 1, the small computer system interface enclosure services (SCSI enclosure service, SES) are standard methods of managing a storage device 11, such as a cluster of disks (Just a Bunch Of Disks, JBOD) and a cluster of flash memory (Just a Bunch Of Flashs, JBOF). The storage device 11 is connected to a host 13 through a serial small computer system interface (Serial Attached SCSI, SAS) cable or a peripheral component interconnect express interface Peripheral Component Interconnect Express, PCIe), and when the storage device 11 is a disk cluster, the storage device 11 is connected to the host 13 through a SAS cable, and when the storage device 11 is a flash memory cluster, the storage device 11 is connected to the host 13 through PCIe, and SES defines commands for the host 13 to request the storage device 11 to return information or control.
When the host 13 has a network card 131 and is connected to a rack management module 12 having a network card 121 via a communication network and the storage device 11 is managed by the rack management module 12 (Rack Management Module, abbreviated as RMM), the related data of the storage device 11 needs to be collected by the host 13 through SCSI cabinet service and then returned to the rack management module 12, so that the data cannot be more effectively and quickly reported to the rack management module 12, and indirect cost exists in the middle, thereby increasing the burden of the host 13, which is necessary to provide a solution.
[ invention ]
The invention aims to provide a storage device management method which enables a rack management module to directly collect relevant data of storage devices.
In order to solve the above technical problems, the storage device management method of the present invention is suitable for managing a storage device, and implemented by a rack management module connected to the storage device via a local area network providing a small computer system interface chassis service, and comprises the following steps:
(A) Transmitting a small computer system interface chassis service instruction to the storage device through a transmission control protocol and an internet protocol; and
(B) After receiving a small computer system interface chassis service reply data generated from the storage device in response to the small computer system interface chassis service instruction and transmitted through transmission control protocol and internet protocol, the small computer system interface chassis service reply data is encapsulated into a standard reply data supporting a data format of one of the Redfish and Swordfish standards.
Compared with the prior art, the invention transmits the small computer system interface chassis service (SES) instruction to the storage device through the transmission control protocol and the Internet protocol by the rack management module so as to directly obtain the small computer system interface chassis service reply data from the storage device, and the rack management module encapsulates the small computer system interface chassis service reply data into the standard reply data supporting the Redfish or Swordfish standard, so that a remote management end can directly manage the storage device by utilizing the standard reply data encapsulated by the rack management module.

[ detailed description ] of the invention
Referring to FIG. 2, an embodiment of a storage device management method of the present invention is adapted to manage a storage device 11 and is implemented by a rack management module 12 coupled to the storage device 11 via a local area network (SES over ethernet) providing the enclosure services of the small computer system interface. The rack management module 12 is further connected to a host 13 and a management end 14 via a communication network, and the host 13 is further connected to the storage device 11 via SAS cable or PCIe. The storage device 11, the rack management module 12 and the host 13 all include a network card 111, 121, 131. It should be noted that fig. 2 illustrates only one storage device 11, however, the storage device management method may also manage a plurality of storage devices 11.
The storage device 11 may be implemented as a disk cluster, or as a flash memory cluster, etc. When the storage device 11 is a disk cluster, the storage device 11 is connected to the host 13 through a SAS cable, and when the storage device 11 is a flash memory cluster, the storage device 11 is connected to the host 13 through PCIe. The network card 111 in the storage device 11 is a network interface in an expander (expander) chip in the storage device 11, which is a management core chip that returns hard disk status and the storage device 11.
The management terminal 14 is held by a manager, and the implementation of the management terminal 14 may be a smart phone, a tablet computer, a notebook computer, or a personal computer.
Referring to fig. 2 and 3, an embodiment of a storage device management method of the present invention includes the following steps.
In step 31, after the rack management module 12 receives a Redfish command from the management end 14 via the communication network, the rack management module 12 encapsulates the Redfish command into a small computer system interface enclosure services (SES) command and transmits the SES command to the storage device 11 through a transmission control protocol and an internet protocol. Since the storage device 11 can only process SES data, the Redfish instruction must be encapsulated into the SES instruction for the storage device 11 to perform related processing.
In step 32, after the rack management module 12 receives a small computer system interface chassis service (SES) reply data generated by the storage device 11 in response to the SES instruction and transmitted through the transmission control protocol and the internet protocol, the rack management module 12 encapsulates the SES reply data into a standard reply data supporting a data format of one of the Redfish and Swordfish standards, and transmits the standard reply data to the management end 14 through the communication network, and the rack management module 12 encapsulates the SES reply data by means of a network packet (TCP/IP). Fig. 4 illustrates the contents of a packet encapsulated to support the Redfish data format.
In other embodiments of the present invention, the rack management module 12 may be configured to automatically and periodically send the SES instruction to the storage device 11, and the management end 14 sends a data request related to the SES reply data to the rack management module 12 when needed, and sends the standard reply data to the management end 14 after the rack management module 12 receives the data request from the management end 14. Because the management end 14 is directly in communication with the rack management module 12, and the rack management module 12 has periodically transmitted the SES instruction to the storage device 11 to obtain SES reply data, the rack management module 12 can directly package the SES reply data obtained periodically into standard reply data supporting one of the Redfish and Swordfish standards after receiving the data request of the management end 14, and then transmit the standard reply data back to the management end 14, so that the rack management module 12 does not need to package the data request of the management end 14 into an SES data request and then transmit the SES reply data to the storage device 11 to obtain the SES reply data.
In summary, in the storage device management method of the present invention, the rack management module 12 is used to transmit the small computer system interface chassis service (SES) command to the storage device 11 through the transmission control protocol and the internet protocol, so as to directly obtain the small computer system interface chassis service reply data from the storage device 11, in addition, the rack management module 12 is used to package the small computer system interface chassis service reply data into the standard reply data supporting the Redfish or Swordfish standard, so that a remote management end 14 can directly manage the storage device 11 by using the standard reply data packaged by the rack management module 12, and furthermore, the cost of developing new standards can be reduced by using the existing Redfish or Swordfish standard, so that the purpose of the present invention can be truly achieved.
The foregoing is merely illustrative of the present invention, and the present invention is not limited thereto, and any person skilled in the art will readily recognize that variations or substitutions are within the scope of the present invention. Therefore, the protection scope of the invention is subject to the protection scope of the claims.
