Abstract
Described herein are aerosol compositions useful for deodorant and/or antiperspirant applications. Such compositions are substantially free of cyclomethicone. Methods of making and using the same are also described.
Description
Cross Reference to Related Applications
The present application claims priority from U.S. provisional patent application Ser. No. 63/072,391, filed 8/31/2020, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
Background
Washing, cleaning and caring for their own bodies are fundamental human needs, which modern industry is continually attempting to meet in various ways. It is particularly important for daily hygiene to eliminate or at least reduce body odour. Body odor is produced in large part by bacteria decomposing individual components of sweat on the skin.
Many specific deodorant and antiperspirant personal care products are known in the art that have been developed for body parts with high density sweat glands, particularly in the underarm and on the foot. These products have been formulated into various dosage forms such as stick, pump sprays, liquid and gel roll-on, pastes, soaked flexible substrates (towels), and aerosol sprays.
Aerosols are mixtures of a propellant and a base (base) mixture, which is also commonly referred to as a concentrate. A binder is a mixture of materials that are generally classified as volatile materials. Typical materials used in the binder are, for example, cyclomethicones such as decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5), or isododecane. However, due to the stability and difficulty of decomposition of cyclomethicone, its use has been determined by regulatory authorities to be potentially harmful to the environment.
There is a need for such aerosol deodorants and/or antiperspirants: it is substantially free or free of cyclomethicone and it can still produce excellent properties such as providing consumer sensory and efficacy benefits, providing a compact spray area, and imparting substantial deposition of active ingredients.
In some embodiments, the present invention addresses these previous technical problems. More particularly, the present invention relates to aerosol compositions useful in deodorant and/or antiperspirant applications, wherein such compositions are substantially free of cyclomethicone, or are free of cyclomethicone.
Disclosure of Invention
This summary is intended merely to introduce a simplified summary of some aspects of one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. Further areas of applicability of the present disclosure will become apparent from the detailed description provided hereinafter. This summary is not an extensive overview nor is intended to identify key or critical elements of the teachings, nor is it intended to delineate the scope of the disclosure. Rather, its sole purpose is to present one or more concepts in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.
The present invention relates to deodorant and/or antiperspirant compositions that can be dispensed by aerosol. Accept the concept of: aerosol spray products consist of an aerosol concentrate or base, and a propellant or propellant mixture, and the weight% of a given material can be expressed as weight% in the concentrate or can, such that the weight% in both terms is reported. We will use this concept and report the wt% or range of wt% in the concentrate, then the wt% in the tank in brackets. And the ratio of 15 wt% concentrate in the tank to 85 wt% propellant in the tank will be used as an example, although the ratio may range from 5 wt% to about 50 wt% concentrate and from 50 wt% to about 95 wt% propellant.

Example 1
Embodiment compositions and properties. Aerosol performance was evaluated for compositions comprising isododecane, isopropyl palmitate, and polydimethylsiloxane in dimethiconol. Briefly, to determine the spray area, the aerosol was sprayed for 3 seconds from a distance of 6 "onto a piece of 10" x 10 "plexiglass (plexiglass). The diameter of the spray profile was measured in centimeters in the horizontal and vertical directions of the plexiglas. The average of the two diameters is then applied to the formula pi r2To determine the area of the circle due toA circular deposit is produced for the spray. This is an important parameter, as a more compact, smaller spray area means that more spray is directed under the armpit, providing a more efficient product.
To determine the deposition amount, a similar procedure to the spray pattern scheme was performed, except that a piece of black cloth was bound to the plexiglas sheet. The cloth was weighed before and after spraying the can contents onto the cloth. Likewise, the canister is weighed before and after the injection event. The time of injection was also measured. Taking the weight difference of the tank will indicate how much is ejected from the tank. The difference in weight of the cloth is taken to account for how much spray falls on the target area. The weight difference of the product deposited on the cloth was divided by the weight difference dispensed from the tank and multiplied by 100 to give the% of the product deposited. This is an important parameter as it indicates how much concentrate (the part of the can product containing antiperspirant and malodour-preventing active) is directed to the underarm area and provides an indication of the efficacy of the sample.
The viscosity was measured at 25 ℃. The results are shown in table 1. Ideally, it is desirable to maximize the amount of deposited product while minimizing spray area while achieving a balance in the level of viscosity that can be charged into the tank. When these statistical results are analyzed with the above limitations, a small window of favorable material levels is found that provides the desired results.

Example 2
Evaluating aerosol performance for a composition comprising a) Isododecane (IDD), and one or more of: b) Isopropyl palmitate (IPP), c) polydimethylsiloxane, d) dimethiconol in polydimethylsiloxane3096 Viscosity at 25℃is 600 mpa.s; or->1020 Viscosity at 25℃of 160 mPa.s, wacker), e) C in dimethiconol11-13Isoparaffins, isohexadecane and polydimethylsiloxane (PMX-1502, dow) and f) polydimethylsiloxane and dimethiconol (PMX-1503, viscosity at 25 ℃ C. Of 1395mPa.s, dow). Samples were analyzed as described above. The results are shown in (below) table 2.
TABLE 2
The use of IDD and IPP alone provides a large spray area and low sediment concentration. Surprisingly, the composition with the addition of dimethiconol in the dimethicone improved both the spray area and the deposited concentrate. In addition, the higher viscosity of the dimethiconol in dimethicone solution provides a more compact spray area and high deposition. C used in polydimethylsiloxane alcohols 11-13Isoparaffins, isohexadecane and polydimethylsiloxane provide particularly compact spray areas and strong deposition.

Table 3 describes suitable concentration ranges for exemplary embodiments of the personal care compositions of the present invention. It has been found that the exemplary compositions of the present invention (with the formulations reported in table 3) provide a high average spray area (cm)2) The deposited concentrate and average spray droplet size (μm) provide unexpected improvements.
