Detailed Description
Figure 1A shows a garment steamer 100 according to the invention having a vertically extending ironing board. FIG. 1B shows an enlarged view of FIG. 1A.
The garment steamer (100) includes a pole assembly (50) and a detachable ironing board (60) adapted to be coupled to the pole assembly via a coupling mechanism (70) such that the ironing board can be positioned in either a first angular orientation or a second angular orientation.
The coupling mechanism comprises a first attachment means (71) fixed on the ironing board and a second attachment means (72) fixed on the top portion of the pole assembly.
The first attachment means comprises a male component and the second attachment means comprises a plurality of female components arranged at an angle with respect to each other, said male component being adapted to cooperate with at least two selected female components of said plurality of female components.
Alternatively, the first attachment means comprise a female component and the second attachment means comprise a plurality of male components arranged at an angle with respect to each other, said female component being adapted to cooperate with at least two selected male components of said plurality of male components.
The second attachment means is a stationary component such that different angular orientations are achieved by mounting the ironing board to the pole assembly using cooperation between a single male/female assembly and a selected one of the plurality of male/female assemblies. However, no adjustment of the male or female components is required.
The cooperation between the selected pair of male and female components thus results in orienting the ironing board according to different angular orientations.
For example, the ironing board 60 may be arranged in a vertical and horizontal orientation in a simple and user-friendly manner and in a manner that is simple and cost-effective to manufacture.
The garment steamer 100 further comprises a base 10 and a steam generator 20 arranged in the base 10 (or arranged separately from the base, for example in the head of the steamer).
The garment steamer 100 also includes a steamer head 30 that is connected to the steam generator 20 by a steam hose 40.
The wand assembly 50 extends upwardly from the base 10.
In this embodiment, the rod assembly includes two vertical rods (50A, 50B).
In a preferred embodiment, the pole assembly 50 extends upwardly from the base 10, and the pole is preferably retractable/retractable for height adjustment of the ironing board, and retractable when not in use to make the garment steamer compact.
It will be appreciated that the number of rods and the position of the rods may vary depending on their size, stability requirements and other considerations.
The male component of the first attachment device defines a first plug and a second plug, and the plurality of female components of the second attachment device define a first series of hollow structures and a second series of hollow structures arranged on each vertical rod for receiving said first plug and second plug, respectively.
For example, the first and second plugs are arranged on opposite lateral sides of the ironing board.
A first series of hollow structures is arranged at the top of the first vertical rod and a second series of hollow structures is arranged at the top of the second vertical rod.
Alternatively, the female component of the first attachment device defines a first hollow structure and a second hollow structure, the plurality of male components of the second attachment device defines a first series of plugs and a second series of plugs, arranged on each vertical rod for engaging with said first and second hollow structures, respectively.
Preferably, the plurality of female components of the second attachment means comprises two female components arranged at 90 degrees with respect to each other.
Alternatively, the plurality of male components of the second attachment device comprises two male components arranged at 90 degrees with respect to each other.
This allows to obtain two angular orientations of the ironing plate: horizontal and vertical.
Preferably, the plurality of female components of the second attachment means comprises three female components, the three female components comprising two female components arranged at 90 degrees relative to each other and a further female component arranged at a further relative angle between the two female components. Alternatively, the plurality of male components of the second attachment device comprises three male components, the three male components comprising two male components arranged at 90 degrees with respect to each other and a further male component arranged between the two male components at a further relative angle. This allows the ironing board to have three angular positions, typically horizontal/vertical/inclined (e.g. 45 degrees from vertical orientation).
Figure 2 shows a first partial exploded view of a garment steamer according to the invention with a horizontally extending ironing board 60.
A first attachment means 71 adapted to cooperate with a second attachment means 72 is shown.
Figure 3A shows a second partially exploded view of the garment steamer according to the invention, with the ironing board 60 extending horizontally. Fig. 3B depicts an enlarged view of fig. 3A.
The first attachment means 71 comprises a plug 711 and the second attachment means 72 comprises a hollow structural unit(s) 721, the hollow structural unit(s) 721 having a first hollow structure 721A and a second hollow structure 721B arranged perpendicularly with respect to each other.
The lever assembly 50 includes two levers 50A, 50B.
The second attachment means 72 comprise, on each of the two rods, two hollow structures 721 arranged at the top end of each of the two rods, and the attachment means 71 comprise two plugs 711, the two plugs 711 being fixed on the ironing plate 60 and being symmetrically spaced apart with respect to the longitudinal axis of the ironing plate 60 by a distance corresponding to the two (telescopic) rods. When the plug 711 is inserted into the first hollow structure 721A, the ironing board 60 is oriented vertically, and when the plug 711 is inserted into the second socket 721B, the ironing board is oriented horizontally.
It should be noted that only one set of elements 711-721 is shown on the vertical rod 50B for clarity. The same explanation applies to the vertical rod 50A.
In another preferred embodiment (not shown), the rod assembly 50 comprises a single rod extending vertically.
With the single rod extending vertically, the male component of the first attachment device defines a single plug and the plurality of female components of the second attachment device define a hollow structure for receiving the single plug.
The first attachment means 71 comprises a single plug 711 and the second contact means 72 comprises two hollow structures fixed at the top end of the single rod. A single plug 711 is for example fixed in the middle of the ironing board. When the plug 711 is inserted into the hollow structure 721A, the ironing plate 60 is oriented vertically, and when the plug 711 is inserted into the second hollow structure 721B, the ironing plate 60 is oriented horizontally.
Alternatively, the female component of the first attachment device defines a single hollow structure and the plurality of male components of the second attachment device define a plug for engaging with the single hollow structure.
Figures 4A-4B show two partial views of a garment steamer according to the invention, with the ironing board extending vertically.
Figures 5A-5B show two partial views of a garment steamer according to the invention, with the ironing board extending horizontally.
Figures 6A-6B show two partial views of a garment steamer according to the invention, in which the ironing board extends at an angle between vertical and horizontal.
In the six figures, the first attachment means comprises a (pair of) plugs 711, each plug 711 being adapted to cooperate with a second attachment means comprising three hollow structures 721A-721B-721C.
The hollow structures 721A,721B form a 90 degree angle with each other.
The hollow structure 721C is inclined at 45 degrees with respect to the vertical direction. But different angles may be similarly selected.
In one embodiment, the first attachment means is integrally formed with the ironing board.
For example, if these elements are all made of plastic, by using plastic injection.
In one embodiment, the first attachment means is made as a separate component and is fixed to the ironing board via any suitable fixing means.
Such as screws, snap-fit latches, clamping mechanisms, ultrasonic welding, glue, etc., may be used.
In a preferred embodiment, the first attachment means and/or the second attachment means are made of a plastic material.
For example, polypropylene, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, polycarbonate may be used.
Preferably, the coupling mechanism 70 further comprises a locking mechanism to secure the first attachment device relative to the second attachment device.
This feature prevents the ironing plate from separating from the lever assembly when the user exerts a force on the ironing plate during steaming/ironing of the garment.
For example, as shown in fig. 4A-4B, the locking mechanism includes a snap-fit mechanism 400, the snap-fit mechanism 400 being disposed between the first and second attachment means when the ironing board 60 is coupled to the pole assembly.
The snap-fit mechanism comprises a protrusion extending from the first attachment means 71, which protrusion cooperates with a cavity arranged in the second attachment means 72.
The latching mechanism cooperates with the opening to (temporarily) secure the first attachment device relative to the second attachment device.
Figure 7A depicts a three-dimensional view of a garment steamer including a user actuatable mechanism adapted to secure an ironing board in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 7B shows a cross-sectional view of fig. 7A.
Fig. 7C depicts an enlarged view of fig. 7A.
The second attachment means comprises at least one user actuatable mechanism (701A, 701B) adapted to be secured with the first attachment means 71 when the ironing board is coupled to the lever assembly. The user actuatable mechanism may be mounted on the top portion of one lever, or on each of the top portions of two levers.
If the lever assembly comprises two vertical levers, a first user-actuatable mechanism may be arranged at an upper end of the first vertical lever and a second user-actuatable mechanism may be arranged at an upper end of the second vertical lever.
Preferably, the user actuatable mechanism comprises a handle 702A, 702B mounted on a hinge (703A, 703B). The handle comprises at least one protrusion 704A, 704B, 704C adapted to cooperate with at least one cavity 706A, 706B, 706C arranged in the first attachment means, e.g. a plug 711, as shown in fig. 7C.
It should be noted that in fig. 7C, the plug 711 is artificially represented three times (with different angular positions) for the purpose of explanation.
For example, at least one cavity 706A, 706B, 706C is disposed in a plurality of female assemblies 721a,721b,721c, respectively.
In this particular embodiment, the protrusions 704A, 704B, 704C pass through openings 705a,705b,705c, respectively, disposed in the plurality of female components 721a,721b, 721c.
Preferably, the handle comprises a hook mechanism 707 adapted to hook with the second attachment means.
This feature allows to keep the handle in place and prevents the protrusions 704A, 704B, 704C from detaching themselves from the cavities 706A, 706B, 706C when the user exerts a force/motion on the ironing board during steaming/ironing of the garment.
For example, the hooking may be made only on the lateral sides of one female component (e.g. the central female component of the second attachment device).
Alternatively (not shown), the second attachment means comprises at least one sliding latch cooperating with a cavity arranged in the first attachment means.
For example, the sliding latch may or may not be spring mounted.
Alternatively (not shown), the second attachment means comprise at least one sliding pin cooperating with a cavity arranged in the first attachment means.
For example, the pin may be a separate removable element.
With the proposed invention, it is intuitive and simple for a user to arrange the ironing board in a first orientation for steaming (e.g. vertical orientation) or in a second orientation for ironing (e.g. horizontal orientation).
This advantageously improves the user-friendliness of the garment steamer. Furthermore, it enables a low cost garment steamer of simple construction, which can be manufactured by low cost plastic injection moulding.
