Abstract
The invention provides a method and apparatus for mixing liquids in an oil tank, the invention mixes crude oil or other hydrocarbon materials to a homogeneous state, has the characteristic of high efficiency; the invention also encompasses methods of using the apparatus and the contents of two layered materials, with the ability to mix materials of differing density or viscosity.
Description
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for mixing liquids in tanks, and in particular to a method and apparatus for mixing fluids or liquids in a common storage vessel or tank.
Background
The trend toward international rising crude oil prices and availability of supplies require refineries the ability to process a variety of different types of crude oils while providing consistent and safe process unit operation. One way refineries seek to gain economic benefits from crude oil feedstock flexibility is to mix the various feedstocks, such as cheaper heavy crude oils with lighter crude oils, prior to processing in a crude unit or pipeline still.
A typical way of mixing crude oil materials is in large volume crude oil storage tanks, and known equipment used in mixing crude oil storage tanks includes side entry agitators with marine propellers. However, the blender is not capable of blending two or more crudes, and significant operational and safety issues arise when unblended crudes are supplied to the refinery. Scientific experiments prove that: for a liquid with a viscosity of 100 to 1000 cp, 10 flips were required to achieve 95% homogeneity in the tank.
Disclosure of Invention
To meet the above identified need by a method and apparatus for mixing fluids or liquids in an oil tank, the present invention provides for mixing crude oil or other hydrocarbon materials to a homogeneous state, with efficient features; the invention also encompasses methods of using the apparatus and the contents of two layered materials, with the ability to mix materials of differing density or viscosity.
The fluid mixing device according to the invention comprises a tank for containing a liquid having a liquid level, an inlet device movable with the liquid level, a power assembly having suction and discharge means, wherein the suction and discharge means are fluidly connected to the inlet device, and at least one mixer, wherein the mixer is fluidly connected to the discharge device.
The invention also includes a method of mixing liquids in a tank. The method includes moving an inlet device based on the liquid level, extracting a portion of the liquid using the inlet device, and returning the portion of the liquid to a different portion of the tank using at least one mixer.

Detailed Description
The technical solutions in the embodiments of the present invention will be clearly and completely described below with reference to the drawings in the embodiments of the present invention, and it is obvious that the described embodiments are only a part of the embodiments of the present invention, and not all of the embodiments. All other embodiments, which can be obtained by a person skilled in the art without making any creative effort based on the embodiments in the present invention, belong to the protection scope of the present invention.
As shown in fig. 1 and according to one embodiment, a fluid mixing device 10 may include a tank 12, which may be an open-top tank for holding a liquid 14 at a level 16. The fluid mixing device 10 may also include an inlet device 18, such as a centrifugal pump 22, fluidly connected to the power assembly 20. The inlet device 18 may be connected to an intake device 24 and the power assembly 20 includes an exhaust device 26. The drain 26 may be fluidly connected to a mixer 28 located at or near the bottom 30 of the tank 12. The base 30 desirably includes a different location 46 than the inlet device 18.
As shown in FIG. 2, the fluid mixing device 10 with the canister 12 may include a relatively inverted configuration, generally opposite to that of FIG. 1, with the same components being reconfigurable or rearranged to allow the liquid 14 to flow from the base 30 (with the inlet device 18) through the power module 20 with the intake device 22 and the exhaust device 26, and out of the at least one mixer 28 at or near the liquid level 16, and out a different location 46 of the inlet.
Claims (5)
1. A method and apparatus for mixing liquids in an oil tank, characterized by: comprises an oil tank body for containing liquid with liquid level; an inlet device comprising a floating suction cup located at or near the top of the liquid surface and movable with the liquid surface, wherein the inlet device draws a portion of the liquid from a region at or near the top of the liquid surface; a power assembly having a suction device fluidly connected to the inlet device and a discharge device having a continuous sealed connection to the suction device with no fluid flow gap therebetween, and at least one mixer fluidly connected to the discharge port and angled generally upwardly to return the portion of the liquid to a different portion of the tank.
2. A method and apparatus for mixing liquids in an oil tank according to claim 1, wherein at least one mixer is mounted at or near the bottom of the tank; the mixer includes an ejector, a nozzle, and an impeller.
3. A method and apparatus for mixing liquids in an oil tank as claimed in claim 1 wherein said oil tank is comprised of a combination of open top tank, fixed top tank, floating top tank, internal floating top tank, underground storage facility and the like.
4. A method and apparatus for mixing liquids in oil tanks as claimed in claim 1 wherein the power components are centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps, agitators, impellers, ejectors and combinations thereof.
5. A method and apparatus for mixing liquids in oil tanks in accordance with claim 1 wherein the inlet device moves with the floating roof.
