Description

Detachable shutter for air conditioner
Technical Field
The present invention relates to an air conditioner. In particular, the present invention relates to a removable shutter configured to be attached to an air conditioner. The louvers may be used to regulate the output airflow of the air conditioner.
Background
Air conditioning is a common expression of conditioning air to a desired state. It may heat the air during cold periods, cool the air during warmer periods, or be used to purify the air if the air contains undesirable particulates. However, the expression air conditioning is most often used when cooling is emphasized. As products, air conditioners may look and be used in various forms, but they all share the same basic technology. The air conditioner includes a compressor, a condenser, an evaporator, and typically also includes an expansion device.
There are different types of air conditioners. One type of air conditioner may be referred to as a split air-conditioner (split air-conditioner). In split type air conditioners, the condenser and the evaporator are located in two different separate units, which are connected to each other via pipes to circulate refrigerant from one unit to the other.
Another type of air conditioner may be referred to as a combination air conditioner (Packaged Air Conditioner). A combined Air Conditioner (AC) can be said to be a self-contained type system in which all the cooling cycle components, such as the compressor, condenser, expansion device, evaporator and control system, are enclosed in a single package.
In any case, the final output from the air conditioner is conditioned air blown into the room or some other space. It is typically desirable that the air be delivered in sufficient quantity at low noise, and it is also desirable that the air delivery process should be energy efficient.
To guide air into a room, so-called louvers may be used at the air outlet of the air conditioner. Accordingly, the louver may be described as a movable element that is arranged to displace air blown by a fan of the air conditioner. One or more such movable elements or louvers may be provided at the air outlet. The louver(s) may deflect the airflow and aim the airflow in a particular direction.
The louver is particularly important in air conditioning/heat pump units where the ability to deliver conditioned air in different directions can significantly improve the performance and user comfort of the air conditioner.
According to some embodiments, one horizontal louver that can be adjusted (automatically or manually) to direct air up and down is combined with a number of vertical louvers that can be adjusted (automatically or manually) to direct air sideways. This would allow 3-dimensional air guidance.
There is a continuing desire to improve air conditioners. Accordingly, there is a need for an improved air conditioner, and also for a louver for an air conditioner.

The present invention now will be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which certain embodiments of the invention are shown. This invention may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather, these embodiments are provided by way of example so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the scope of the invention to those skilled in the art. For example, the same or similar components of different embodiments may be interchanged between different embodiments. For example, the louvers as described herein are shown as being mounted on the indoor units of a split air conditioner, but the louvers may equally be mounted on any type of air conditioner. Some components may be omitted in different embodiments. Also, some parts typically used in the air conditioner have been omitted to more clearly illustrate the present invention. Like numbers refer to like elements throughout.
In fig. 1, a front view of an air conditioner 10 is depicted. The air conditioner 10 in fig. 1 is an indoor unit of a split type air conditioner, but the air conditioner 10 may be any type of air conditioner. The air conditioner 10 includes a frame 12 that houses the components of the air conditioner. The air conditioner typically includes a fan configured to blow air out of the air conditioner 10 via the air outlet 16. The air outlet 16 is provided with a louver 20. The blind 20 may be moved using a displacement mechanism configured to move the blind to different positions.
In use, a displacement mechanism may be used to move the shutter 20 between different positions. This allows the air guiding louver 20 to have a wide range of movement and thus air guiding possibilities.
In fig. 2, the louver 20 of the air conditioner 10 is shown detached from the air conditioner 10. The displacement mechanism 30 can be seen in fig. 2. The displacement mechanism 30 may be motor driven in some embodiments, but may also be manually operated.
The displacement mechanism 30 may be made planar in some embodiments and may include only two free links, one grounded base link, two swivel joints, and one pin and slot joint in some embodiments. One of the free links may be attached to the blind 20 as a crank 34 and connected to the fixed base link by a swivel joint or by a pin and slot joint. The other free link, i.e. the crank, may have a ground rotary joint, which may or may not be coupled to an actuator, such as a motor.
Fig. 3 depicts the shutter 20 detached from the air conditioner. The louver 20 is provided with at least one connector 22 configured to attach the louver to the air conditioner. The connector 22 includes a snap-fit 24 that snaps into the air conditioner. Advantageously, the connector 22 may be configured to attach to a displacement mechanism 30 to move a shutter of an air conditioner.
Advantageously, at least two connectors 22 are provided, and each of said at least two connectors is provided with a snap-fit 24. In the embodiment depicted in fig. 3, three connectors are provided, one at each end of the blind 20, and one connector 22 is provided in the middle of the blind 20. Each of the connectors 22 may be configured to mate with a corresponding part of a displacement mechanism of an air conditioner via a snap-fit 24.
The connection(s) 22 may also be provided with at least one guide element 26 for aligning the shutter displacement mechanism during attachment of the shutter to the air conditioner. According to one embodiment, two guiding elements are provided on the connection(s). The guide element may be formed as a pin or some other protruding part configured to align the displacement mechanism. Further, a slot 28 may be provided in the connector 22 to receive a protruding part of the displacement mechanism 30, such as a tab.
To attach the shutter assembly to the displacement mechanism 30, it may be difficult to align all parts of the displacement mechanism 30, and it may also be difficult to easily attach the shutter to the displacement mechanism or some other mechanism for holding the shutter during operation of the air conditioner. The snap-fit 24 facilitates attachment of the louver to the air conditioner and the guide element 26 may help align any moving parts of the displacement mechanism 30.
An exemplary attachment process is described below in connection with fig. 4-6. In the exemplary embodiment of fig. 4-6, the connector 22 of the shutter 20 is used to attach the shutter to the displacement mechanism 30 of the air conditioner. It is also contemplated that connectors may be used to attach the louvers to some other part of the air conditioner, such as the frame 12.
Fig. 4 shows a view of a first side of the connector 22 of the blind 20. The connector is to be attached to the air conditioner, in particular to the displacement mechanism 30 of the air conditioner, in the direction of the arrow. In the embodiment of fig. 4, the first connector 32 of the displacement mechanism 30 is inserted into the slot 28 and the connector is moved toward the second connector 34 of the displacement mechanism 30. According to some embodiments, the snap-fit 24 may be formed in the slit 28. For example, the cuts in the slits may form the snap-fit 24. The snap-fit fitting is adapted to mate with a mating feature of an air conditioner. In the embodiment shown in fig. 4, the mating part is a joint or pin 34 of the displacement mechanism 30.
In fig. 5 a view similar to the view of fig. 4 is shown. The view of fig. 5 is from the opposite side of the connector from that shown in fig. 4. As can be seen in fig. 5, a guiding element 26 may be formed on the connection piece 22. Guide elements 26 may be provided to assist in alignment of different parts of, for example, the displacement mechanism when attaching the shutter 20 to the air conditioner. Any number of guide elements may be used depending on the embodiment of the connection and also depending on the air conditioner to which the blind is to be attached. Thus, only one guide element may be used in some embodiments. In the embodiment shown in fig. 5, two guide elements are provided, but more than two guide elements may also be provided, if such a configuration may prove advantageous for the particular implementation at hand.
In fig. 6, the louver is shown attached to an air conditioner. Thus, the shutter 20 is attached to the displacement mechanism 30 by snapping the snap-fit of the connector 22 to the second tab 34 of the displacement mechanism 30.
By providing the louver with at least one snap-fit to secure the louver to the outlet of the air conditioner, it is easy to operate the louver for assembly and maintenance. Advantageously, the guiding element may be complementary to a snap-fit in an embodiment in which the shutter is controlled by a mechanism. In embodiments without a shutter displacement mechanism, a snap-fit is advantageous because the shutter does not need to be bent and twisted to connect all pivot points. Thus, regardless of the particular embodiment of the louver in the air conditioner, it may be advantageous to connect the louver to the snap-fit of the air conditioner.
