This magnetic state of the surface of the metal component "remembers" the location of the microscopic defects or stress risers, a so-called magnetic memory effect. When a ferromagnetic component in the earth magnetic field environment is acted by external load, magnetic domain organization orientation and irreversible reorientation with magnetostriction property can be generated in a stress concentration area, a fixed node of a magnetic domain can appear at the position to generate a magnetic pole and form a demagnetizing field, so that the magnetic permeability of the ferromagnetic metal at the position is minimum, and a leakage magnetic field is formed on the surface of the metal. The tangential component Hpx of the leakage field strength has a maximum value, while the normal component Hpy changes sign and has a zero value. This irreversible change in magnetic state still retains the location of the stress concentration "memorized" after the workload was relieved.
