Abstract
本发明涉及一种锂二次电池外壳,该锂二次电池外壳由包括外层/屏障层/内层结构的层压片材构成,该外壳包括:第一区域,该第一区域是气体较容易排出或膨胀相对较好的区域;以及第二区域,该第二区域是除第一区域之外的其余区域,其中,形成第一区域的层压片材不包括屏障层或者包括具有狭缝的屏障层。

技术领域
本申请要求基于2019年10月23日提交的韩国专利申请No.10-2019-0132219的优先权的权益,并且该韩国专利申请的全部内容通过引用被并入本文中。
本发明涉及一种用于锂二次电池的电池外壳以及一种用于在激活过程期间抑制电极组件的变形的袋型电池外壳。
背景技术
随着技术的发展和对移动设备的需求的增长,对作为能量源的二次电池的需求正在迅速增长,并且在这样的二次电池之中,已经对具有高能量密度和放电电压的锂二次电池进行了许多研究,并且已经将其商业化并广泛使用。
锂二次电池根据其外观被大致分类为圆柱形电池、棱柱形电池和袋型电池,并且取决于电解质溶液的类型也被分类为锂离子电池、锂离子聚合物电池和锂聚合物电池。
由于移动设备的小型化的最新趋势,对更薄的方形电池和袋型电池的需求正在增长,并且特别地,形状容易改变、制造便宜且重量轻的袋型电池引起了高度关注。
通常,袋型电池是指电极组件和电解质溶液被密封在包括树脂层和金属层的层压片材的袋型外壳的内部的电池。被容纳在电池外壳中的电极组件具有果冻卷型(卷绕型)、堆叠型、或复杂型(堆叠/折叠型)的结构。袋型二次电池通过如下方式来制造:形成用于将电极组件安装在层压片材上的接收部,并且在将电极组件附接到接收部的状态下对与该片材分离的单独片材或从其延伸的片材进行热熔合。
图1是袋型二次电池的层压片材的截面视图。参考图1,层压片材20具有外层21、屏障层22和内层23被顺序地堆叠的结构,外层21起到保护电池免受外部影响的作用,屏障层22具有防止异物(诸如气体和湿气)的流入或泄漏的功能并且具有提高电池外壳的强度的功能,并且内层23具有当密封电池外壳时能够热熔合的功能。
图2是传统电池单体的前视图,在该传统电池单体中,电极组件被容纳在层压片材的袋中,并完成了密封过程,并且图3是图2的电池单体的侧视图。参考这些附图,电池外壳10包括:接收部11,电极组件1被容纳在该接收部11中;密封单元13,该密封单元13通过将层压片材热密封而形成;以及气袋单元12,该气袋单元12作为除接收部之外的自由空间能够收集在激活过程期间生成的气体。然而,在激活过程期间,如图3所示,生成了内部气体。由于气体和湿气等难以渗透到构成电池外壳的层压片材的屏障层中,并且屏障层具有小的膨胀率,因此存在电极组件可能因收集在电池外壳中的气体而膨胀或变形的问题。在激活过程之后,气袋被冲孔以排出内部气体,但是在执行脱气过程之前生成的内部气体会引起与上述相同的问题。
另外,为了在激活过程期间传送电池单体,应使用传送构件(诸如夹钳)来拾取电池单体。当电池外壳的内部由于气体而隆起时,如图4所示,在使用夹钳拾取电池单体的过程中存在困难。
因此,需要开发一种用于电池外壳的技术,其在抑制由在激活过程期间生成的气体引起的电极组件的变形的同时有助于后续过程的电池单体的运输。
发明内容
【技术问题】
本发明的目的是提供一种电池外壳,该电池外壳能够在脱气过程之前抑制在激活过程中生成的气体使电极组件变形的现象。
另外,本发明的目的是提供如下形式的电池单体,在该形式中,在激活过程期间生成的气体容易排出,或者气袋单元膨胀,使得传送构件容易执行拾取。
【技术方案】
用于解决上述问题的本发明的电池外壳是用于锂二次电池的电池外壳,该电池外壳由包括外层/屏障层/内层结构的层压片材制成,并且该电池外壳包括:第一区域,该第一区域是气体容易排出或相对容易膨胀的区域;以及第二区域,该第二区域是除第一区域之外的其余区域,其中,构成第一区域的层压片材不包括屏障层或者包括形成有狭缝的屏障层。
根据本发明实施例的电池外壳包括:接收部,电极组件被容纳在该接收部中;以及气袋单元,在激活过程中生成的气体被收集在该气袋单元中,并且第一区域被形成在该气体袋单元中。
在本发明的实施例中,屏障层是铝或铝合金的。
在本发明的实施例中,构成第一区域的层压片材不包含屏障层。
此时,在第一区域中的层压片材的外层可以是:
选自由聚酰胺、聚酯、聚乙烯、聚丙烯(PP)和环烯烃共聚物(COC)构成的组中的一种或多种,或
选自由低密度聚乙烯(LDPE)、高密度聚乙烯(HDPE)、聚丙烯(PP)、双向拉伸聚丙烯(BOPP)和环烯烃共聚物(COC)构成的组中的一种或多种。
在本发明的实施例中,构成第一区域的层压片材包括具有形成在其上的狭缝的屏障层。此时,在第一区域中的层压片材的内层和外层中的每一层上均可以未形成狭缝。
在本发明的实施例中,第一区域被形成在气袋单元的一端与接收部相接的边界与气袋单元的另一端之间的位置处。
在本发明的实施例中,内层是聚丙烯或聚乙烯。
根据本发明的用于制造二次电池的方法包括:将电极组件接收在电池外壳中并注入电解质溶液的步骤;以及在电池外壳已经被密封或临时密封的状态下执行激活过程的步骤。
此外,根据本发明的用于制造二次电池的方法还可以包括:在激活过程之后的通过在气袋部中钻出至少一个通孔来执行排出内部气体的脱气过程的步骤。
【有益效果】
在根据本发明的电池外壳中,构成气袋单元的层压片材的局部区域不包含阻挡气体和湿气的屏障层,或者由于仅在屏障层中形成狭缝,所以电池外壳内部的气体容易通过该区域排出,或者由于与其他区域相比,该区域具有相对优异的膨胀性,所以在激活过程期间生成的气体移动到该区域。这样,具有防止电极组件因内部气体而变形的效果。
另外,在根据本发明的电池外壳中,由于在激活过程期间生成的气体被排出,所以在激活过程期间降低了气袋单元因内部气体而隆起的程度,使得使用传送构件容易拾取电池单体,从而提高该过程中的工作效率。

具体实施方式
在本申请中,应当理解,诸如“包括”或“具有”的术语旨在指示在说明书中描述了特征、数量、步骤、操作、部件、零件或其组合,并且它们并不预先排除存在或添加一个或多个其他特征或数量、步骤、操作、部件、零件或其组合的可能性。
在下文中,将详细描述本发明。
本发明提供了一种用于锂二次电池的电池外壳,该电池外壳由包括外层/屏障层/内层结构的层压片材制成,并且该电池外壳包括:第一区域,该第一区域是气体容易排出或相对容易膨胀的区域;以及第二区域,该第二区域是除第一区域之外的其余区域,其中,构成第一区域的层压片材不包括屏障层或包括形成有狭缝的屏障层。
锂二次电池的制造过程包括:将电极组件插入由层压片材制成的电池外壳中;注入电解质溶液;以及将其密封以执行激活过程。在激活过程期间,由于电解质溶液与电极之间的化学反应和副反应而生成大量气体,并且通过脱气过程的单独过程排出这些气体。因此,在激活过程开始之后并且在执行脱气过程之前,内部气体被填充在电池外壳的内部,这可能导致电极组件隆起或变形。这是因为用作电池外壳的层压片材包含由难以渗透空气或水蒸气的金属材料制成的屏障层。因此,在激活过程期间生成的内部气体被屏障层相对于外部阻挡并且不能被排放,并且由于其被收集在电池外壳的内部,所以电池外壳像气球一样隆起。
因此,本发明被设计成允许在激活过程期间生成的内部气体容易被排出或允许内部气体容易被收集在气袋单元中而不是在接收部中。
本发明的电池外壳的特征在于,与构成其他区域的层压片材不同,构成其局部区域的层压片材不包含屏障层,或者包括形成有狭缝的屏障层。传统层压片材具有由金属材料制成的屏障层,以提供防止异物(诸如气体和湿气)的流入或泄漏的功能以及提高电池外壳的强度的功能。然而,由于这种屏障层,在激活过程期间生成的气体不能被排出,并且电池外壳的内部被填充。这样,在本发明的电池外壳中,作为局部区域的第一区域由允许气体容易排出或相对充分膨胀的层压片材构成,并且作为除第一区域之外的其余区域的第二区域由传统层压片材构成。
图5是根据本发明的实施例的电池外壳100的前视图。参考图5,电池外壳100包括:接收部110,正电极/分隔件/负电极结构的电极组件1被容纳在该接收部110中;气袋单元120,该气袋单元120被设置在接收部的上方,以收集在激活过程期间生成的气体;以及密封单元130,该密封单元130用于密封电池外壳的内部,并且气袋120的一部分包括第一区域121,该第一区域112是气体容易排出或相对容易膨胀的区域。第一区域可以具有预定宽度,并且可以在与电池外壳的密封单元130平行的方向上延伸。
图10示出了根据本发明的又一个实施例的第一区域的形状。参考图10,在气袋单元120上具有多个矩形形状的第一区域121可以具有在与密封单元130平行的方向上排成一行的形状。
优选地,第一区域121被形成在接收部110与气袋单元120的一端邻接的边界与气袋单元的另一端之间。这是因为,如果大量的电解质溶液被容纳在容纳有电极组件的接收部中,则电解质溶液可能泄漏,并且在构成接收部的层压片材中没有屏障层。
可以根据构成层压片材的内/外层材料的透气性以及电极组件和电解质溶液的化学性质来适当地选择第一区域所占据的面积。具体地,基于气袋单元的面积,第一区域所占据的面积可以为5%至50%,但是不限于此。
构成第一区域的层压片材不包含屏障层或者包括形成有狭缝的屏障层,从而有助于从第一区域排出气体或允许相对良好的膨胀。与包括屏障层的层压片材相比,不包括屏障层的层压片材具有优秀的透气性和透湿性,使得可以容易地排出气体。在屏障层中形成有狭缝的层压片材中,即使包括屏障层,也可以通过屏障层的狭缝排出气体,使得可以容易地排出气体。
将详细描述构成第一区域的层压片材。
构成第一区域的层压片材的第一实施例不包括屏障层,并且外层和内层的材料与传统层压片材相同。
在第一实施例中,由于构成第一区域的层压片材的外层应具有对外部环境的优异耐受性以保护电池免受外部影响,所以与厚度相比,要求优异的拉伸强度和耐候性。例如,可以使用聚酰胺树脂(诸如尼龙)、聚酯树脂(诸如聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(PET)、聚对苯二甲酸丁二醇酯(PBT)和聚萘二甲酸乙二醇酯(PEN))、聚烯烃树脂(诸如聚乙烯(PE)和聚丙烯(PP))、聚苯乙烯树脂(诸如聚苯乙烯)、聚氯乙烯树脂、聚偏二氯乙烯树脂等。这些材料可以单独使用或者以两种或更多种组合使用。
在第一实施例中,构成第一区域的层压片材的内层在电池外壳的临时密封或密封期间起到热熔合的作用。由于可以在100℃至200℃的温度下执行热熔合,所以内层材料由具有在该温度范围内的熔点的材料制成。另外,由于内层用于确保绝缘,所以其具有低吸湿性以抑制电解质溶液的侵入,并且不应被电解质溶液膨胀或侵蚀。这种内层材料的优选示例包括聚乙烯、聚乙烯丙烯酸、未拉伸的聚丙烯、聚酰胺、聚酰胺酰亚胺、聚酰亚胺及其混合物或共聚物,但不限于此。
在第一实施例中,构成第一区域的层压片材不包括屏障层,并且仅由外层和内层构成,并且如上所述,该外层和内层的材料是聚合物材料。这样,与传统层压片材相比,材料的可膨胀性提高。因此,在激活过程期间生成的内部气体自然地从由于屏障层而未膨胀的接收部移动到具有良好膨胀性的第一区域。图8从根据本发明的第一实施例的电池单体的将电极组件1插入电池外壳中的一侧示出了在激活过程之前/之后的状态,并且注入并密封电解质溶液。参考图8,由于去除了屏障层,所以与构成除第一区域之外的其余区域的层压片材相比,构成第一区域121的层压片材具有相对优异的膨胀性。因此,在激活过程期间生成的气体趋向于移动到充分膨胀的第一区域121。因此,大部分内部气体被收集在位于气袋单元121上的第一区域121中以使第一区域的层压片材膨胀,并且仅少量气体残留在电池单体接收部110中。因此,电池单体接收部110的体积膨胀率减小,使得夹钳在后续过程中更容易拾取电池单体。
构成本发明的第一区域的层压片材的第二实施例不包括屏障层,并且由与传统层压片材的外层材料相比具有更优异的透气性的外层材料构成。图6从根据第二实施例的电池单体的将电极组件1插入电池外壳中的一侧示出了在激活过程之前和之后的状态,并且注入并密封电解质溶液。参考图6,构成第一区域121的层压片材与第一实施例的相同之处在于其不包括屏障层,但是与第一实施例的不同之处在于构成第一区域121的层压片材的外层由允许气体充分通过并阻挡湿气的材料制成。
使气体充分通过但阻挡湿气的外层材料的具体示例是选自由低密度聚乙烯(LDPE)、高密度聚乙烯(HDPE)、聚丙烯(PP)、双向拉伸聚丙烯(BOPP)和环烯烃共聚物(COC)构成的组中的一种或两种或更多种。在构成第一区域的层压片材的外层由聚合物材料制成的情况下,与普通外层材料相比,其具有优异的阻挡湿气性能。这样,可以将第一区域的阻挡湿气性能维持在与包括屏障层的层压片材的阻挡湿气性能相似或略低的水平。
参考图6,在构成第一区域121的层压片材中,去除了屏障层,并且气体在外层的材料中充分通过,使得在激活过程期间生成的内部气体(a)通过第一区域被充分排出。因此,电池单体接收部110不会因内部气体而膨胀。因此,如图7所示,电池单体的拾取变得容易。
构成本发明的第一区域的层压片材的第三实施例包括形成有狭缝的屏障层。在这种情况下,优选地,仅在屏障层中形成有狭缝,并且在外层和内层中不形成狭缝。这是因为如果在外层和内层中形成狭缝,则在激活过程期间电解质溶液可能泄漏并且对电池性能产生负面影响。图9从根据第三实施例的电池单体的将电极组件1插入电池外壳中的一侧示出了在激活过程之前和之后的状态,并且注入并密封电解质溶液。参考图9,构成第一区域121的层压片材不包括屏障层,并且外层由具有良好透气性的材料制成,使得容易排出气体,并且在激活期间生成的内部气体(a)通过第一区域被充分排出。
图11至图12示出了根据第三实施例的各种类型的狭缝。根据第三实施例的屏障层的狭缝可以如图11所示以直线形状形成在气袋120中,并且可以以如图12所示的十字形状形成。
在下文中,将描述构成本发明的电池外壳中的第二区域的层压片材。在本发明中,第二区域是指除第一区域之外的其余区域。构成第二区域的层压片材不同于第一区域的层压片材,并且可以使用传统层压片材。
典型的层压片材可以包括外层/屏障层/内层结构。由于外层应具有对外部环境的优异耐受性以保护电池免受外部影响,所以需要优异的拉伸强度和耐候性。例如,可以使用聚酰胺树脂(诸如尼龙)、聚酯树脂(诸如聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(PET)、聚对苯二甲酸丁二醇酯(PBT)和聚萘二甲酸乙二醇酯(PEN))、聚烯烃树脂(诸如聚乙烯(PE)和聚丙烯(PP))、聚苯乙烯树脂(诸如聚苯乙烯)、聚氯乙烯树脂、聚偏二氯乙烯树脂等。这些材料可以单独使用或者以两种或更多种组合使用。
屏障层可以由铝或铝合金制成,以除了防止异物(诸如气体和湿气)的流入或泄漏的功能之外还表现出提高电池外壳的强度的功能,并且这些材料可以单独使用或者以两种或更多种组合使用。
内层起到在电池外壳的临时密封或密封期间热熔合的作用。由于可以在100℃至200℃的温度下执行热熔合,所以内层材料由具有在该温度范围内的熔点的材料制成。另外,由于内层用于确保绝缘,所以其具有低吸湿性以抑制电解质溶液的侵入,并且不应被电解质溶液膨胀或侵蚀。这种内层材料的优选示例包括聚乙烯、聚乙烯丙烯酸、未拉伸的聚丙烯、聚酰胺、聚酰胺酰亚胺、聚酰亚胺及其混合物或共聚物,但不限于此。
通常,聚烯烃类树脂(诸如聚丙烯)对金属的粘合力低,因此,为了提高粘合力,可以化学地和/或物理地处理屏障层的面对内层的表面,使得可以形成多个不规则部。可以通过例如在屏障层的表面上执行喷砂或化学蚀刻来形成这种不规则部,并且期望通过确保较宽的表面积来提高粘合力。不规则部的尺寸不受特别限制,但优选为10μm至100μm,以在层之间提供高的结合力。
层压片材可以具有进一步包括在外层与屏障层之间和/或在屏障层与内层之间的粘合层的结构。粘合层用于补充屏障层与外层以及屏障层与内层之间的粘合力。
作为粘合层,例如,可以使用包含诸如环氧类、酚类、三聚氰胺类、聚酰亚胺类、聚酯类、聚氨酯类等的树脂的粘合剂,并且可以使用通过熔融挤出涂覆(改性)聚丙烯或(改性)聚乙烯树脂而形成的熔融挤出树脂层。
在构成第二区域的层压片材中,外层的厚度可以为5μm至40μm,屏障层的厚度可以为5μm至100μm,并且内层的厚度可以为10μm至50μm。如果厚度太薄,则难以期望提高阻挡功能和强度,而如果厚度太厚,则可加工性降低并且导致片材的厚度增加,这不是优选的。
本发明提供了一种制造二次电池的方法,该二次电池使用电池外壳执行激活过程。根据本发明的用于制造二次电池的方法包括:将电极组件接收在电池外壳中并注入电解质溶液的步骤;以及在电池外壳已经被密封或临时密封的状态下执行激活过程的步骤。
激活过程是如下概念,其包括对于已经被密封的电池充分浸渍电解质溶液的老化过程以及通过以预定SOC进行充电/放电来激活电池的激活过程。在激活过程期间,为了防止副反应气体等在电极与分隔件之间滞留,可以包括在充电/放电的同时或在充电/放电之后的以预定压力挤压的过程。
在一个特定示例中,根据本发明的制造二次电池的方法还可以包括:在激活过程之后,通过在气袋单元中钻出至少一个通孔来执行排出内部气体的脱气过程。
在根据本发明的制造二次电池的方法中,由于在激活过程期间生成的内部气体通过第一区域排出或移动到相对充分膨胀的第一区域,所以具有抑制电极组件因内部气体而隆起或变形的现象的效果。另外,当通过传送构件(诸如夹钳)拾取电池单体以用于后续过程时,内部气体从电池外壳排出,因此,与电池外壳因内部气体而膨胀的电池单体相比,其具有容易拾取的效果,从而提高工艺的便利性。
Claims (12)
1.一种用于锂二次电池的电池外壳,所述电池外壳由包括外层/屏障层/内层结构的层压片材制成,所述电池外壳包括:
第一区域,所述第一区域是气体容易排出或相对容易膨胀的区域;以及
第二区域,所述第二区域是除所述第一区域之外的其余区域,
其中,构成所述第一区域的所述层压片材不包括屏障层或者包括形成有狭缝的屏障层。
2.根据权利要求1所述的电池外壳,还包括:
接收部,电极组件被容纳在所述接收部中;以及
气袋单元,在激活过程期间生成的气体被收集在所述气袋单元中,
其中,所述第一区域被形成在所述气袋单元中。
3.根据权利要求1所述的电池外壳,其中,所述屏障层是铝或铝合金的。
4.根据权利要求1所述的电池外壳,其中,构成所述第一区域的所述层压片材不包含屏障层。
5.根据权利要求1所述的电池外壳,其中,构成所述第一区域的所述层压片材包括其上形成有狭缝的屏障层。
6.根据权利要求4所述的电池外壳,其中,所述第一区域被形成在所述气袋单元的一端与接收部相接的边界与所述气袋单元的另一端之间的位置处。
7.根据权利要求4所述的电池外壳,其中,在所述第一区域中的所述层压片材的外层是选自由聚酰胺、聚酯、聚乙烯、聚丙烯(PP)和环烯烃共聚物(COC)构成的组中的一种或多种。
8.根据权利要求4所述的电池外壳,其中,在所述第一区域中的所述层压片材的外层是选自由低密度聚乙烯(LDPE)、高密度聚乙烯(HDPE)、聚丙烯(PP)、双向拉伸聚丙烯(BOPP)和环烯烃共聚物(COC)构成的组中的一种或多种。
9.根据权利要求1所述的电池外壳,其中,所述内层是聚丙烯或聚乙烯。
10.根据权利要求5所述的电池外壳,其中,在所述第一区域中的所述层压片材的所述内层和所述外层中的每一层上均未形成所述狭缝。
11.一种用于制造二次电池的方法,所述方法包括:
将电极组件接收在根据权利要求1所述的电池外壳中并注入电解质溶液的步骤;以及
在所述电池外壳已经被密封或临时密封的状态下执行激活过程的步骤。
12.根据权利要求11所述的方法,还包括:在所述激活过程之后通过在气袋部中钻出至少一个通孔来执行排出内部气体的脱气过程的步骤。
