Abstract
The invention discloses an unsaturated polyester resin for sheet molding compound and a preparation method thereof, relating to the technical field of unsaturated polyester resin, wherein maleic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, propylene glycol and neopentyl glycol are mixed according to the molar ratio of 5: 1: 2.8-3.2: 2.8-3.2, adding the mixture into a reaction kettle, and carrying out melt polycondensation reaction at the temperature of 160-220 ℃ to obtain a polycondensate; adding the polycondensate obtained by the reaction into styrene, and finally stirring and diluting uniformly at the temperature of 60-80 ℃; adding epoxy resin, wherein the molar ratio of phthalic anhydride to epoxy resin is 1: 0.2 to 0.8, and modifying and extending the chain to obtain the unsaturated polyester resin with excellent thickening performance for the sheet molding compound. And (3) modifying and chain extending the diluted product by epoxy resin, and controlling the acid value and the viscosity to the reaction end point, so that the obtained unsaturated polyester resin for the sheet molding compound has excellent thickening performance.
Description
Technical Field
The invention relates to the technical field of unsaturated polyester resin, in particular to unsaturated polyester resin for sheet molding compound and a preparation method thereof.
Background
Sheet Molding Compounds (SMC) are a class of sheet molding compounds made from resin paste impregnated fibers or chopped strand mats covered on both sides with a polyhexene film. In the production of sheet moulding compounds, stable thickening properties are of great importance. The existing unsaturated polyester resin for general SMC has large deviation of molecular weight distribution and acid value among each batch due to instability of esterification reaction in the synthesis process, and finally causes unstable thickening performance of the resin.
Disclosure of Invention
Aiming at the defects and shortcomings of the prior art, the invention provides the unsaturated polyester resin for the sheet molding compound and the preparation method thereof.
In order to achieve the above object, the unsaturated polyester resin for sheet molding compound in the present invention comprises the following components in molar ratio: maleic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, propylene glycol, neopentyl glycol are 5: 1: 2.8-3.2: 2.8 to 3.2.
The preparation method of the unsaturated polyester resin for the sheet molding compound comprises the following steps:
step one, maleic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, propylene glycol and neopentyl glycol are mixed according to a molar ratio of 5: 1: 2.8-3.2: 2.8-3.2, adding the mixture into a reaction kettle, and carrying out melt polycondensation reaction at the temperature of 160-220 ℃ to obtain a polycondensate;
step two, adding the polycondensate obtained through reaction into styrene, wherein the mass ratio of the polycondensate to the styrene is 60-55: 40-45, and finally stirring and diluting uniformly at the temperature of 60-80 ℃;
adding epoxy resin, wherein the molar ratio of phthalic anhydride to epoxy resin is 1: 0.2 to 0.8, and modifying and extending the chain to obtain the unsaturated polyester resin with excellent thickening performance for the sheet molding compound.
Preferably, the epoxy resin in the third step is epoxy resin E51.
Preferably, the epoxy resin in the third step is epoxy resin E44.
The working principle of the invention is as follows: the thickening performance of the unsaturated polyester resin is not only related to the molecular structure of the unsaturated polyester resin, but also closely related to the molecular weight distribution, and is also closely related to the end group content, namely the acid value and the hydroxyl value; it is generally considered that a higher molecular weight (Mw > 6000) is essential for the resin to achieve a good thickening effect, but the molecular weight distribution is broad due to structural limitations of the unsaturated polyester resin, which deteriorates the thickening performance of the resin. Meanwhile, the molecular weight is related to the content of end groups, so that the acid value and the hydroxyl value are limited, higher values are difficult to achieve simultaneously, and the thickening performance of the resin is reduced; thus, higher molecular weights (Mw > 6000), narrower molecular weight distributions (P < 5) and moderate acid values (25-30 mgKOH/g) and hydroxyl values (20-25 mgKOH/g) are advantageous for the thickening properties of the resin.
Compared with the prior art, the invention has the beneficial effects that: the invention provides an unsaturated polyester resin for sheet molding compound and a preparation method thereof.

the unsaturated polyester resin for the sheet molding compound in the embodiment is prepared by the following method: maleic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, propylene glycol and neopentyl glycol are mixed according to a molar ratio of 5: 1: 2.8: 3.2, adding the mixture into a reaction kettle, and carrying out melt polycondensation reaction at the temperature of 200-205 ℃ to obtain a polycondensate; adding a polycondensate obtained through reaction into styrene, wherein the mass ratio of the polycondensate to the styrene is (60-55): 40-45, and finally stirring and diluting uniformly at the temperature of 70-80 ℃; adding epoxy resin E51 with the molar ratio of 0.5 for modification and chain extension, and carrying out heat preservation reaction for 2 hours at the temperature of 80 ℃ to obtain the unsaturated polyester resin with excellent thickening performance for the sheet molding compound.
The working principle of the specific embodiment is as follows: the thickening performance of the unsaturated polyester resin is not only related to the molecular structure of the unsaturated polyester resin, but also closely related to the molecular weight distribution, and is also closely related to the end group content, namely the acid value and the hydroxyl value; higher molecular weights (Mw > 6000), narrower molecular weight distributions (P < 5) and moderate acid values (25-30 mgKOH/g) and hydroxyl values (20-25 mgKOH/g) are advantageous for the thickening properties of the resin.
The beneficial effects of the embodiment are as follows: the specific embodiment provides an unsaturated polyester resin for sheet molding compound and a preparation method thereof, the diluted product is subjected to epoxy resin modification chain extension, the acid value and the viscosity are controlled to the reaction end point, and the obtained unsaturated polyester resin for sheet molding compound has excellent thickening performance.
Example two:
the unsaturated polyester resin for the sheet molding compound in the embodiment is prepared by the following method: maleic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, propylene glycol and neopentyl glycol are mixed according to a molar ratio of 5: 1: 2.9: 3.1, adding the mixture into a reaction kettle, and carrying out melt polycondensation reaction at the temperature of 200-205 ℃ to obtain a polycondensate; adding a polycondensate obtained through reaction into styrene, wherein the mass ratio of the polycondensate to the styrene is (60-55): 40-45, and finally stirring and diluting uniformly at the temperature of 70-80 ℃; adding epoxy resin E44 with the molar ratio of 0.6 for modification and chain extension, and carrying out heat preservation reaction for 2 hours at the temperature of 80 ℃ to obtain the unsaturated polyester resin with excellent thickening performance for the sheet molding compound.
Example three:
the unsaturated polyester resin for the sheet molding compound in the embodiment is prepared by the following method: maleic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, propylene glycol and neopentyl glycol are mixed according to a molar ratio of 5: 1: 3.2: 2.8, adding the mixture into a reaction kettle, and carrying out melt polycondensation reaction at the temperature of 200-205 ℃ to obtain a polycondensate; adding a polycondensate obtained through reaction into styrene, wherein the mass ratio of the polycondensate to the styrene is (60-55): 40-45, and finally stirring and diluting uniformly at the temperature of 70-80 ℃; adding epoxy resin E51 with the mol ratio of 0.45 to modify and extend chain, and keeping the temperature at 80 ℃ to react for 2 hours to obtain the unsaturated polyester resin with excellent thickening performance for the sheet molding compound.
And (3) performance testing:
the unsaturated polyester resin for sheet molding compound with excellent thickening performance prepared in the first, second and third examples and the comparative example (molding resin in the prior art) are subjected to various performance tests, and the test data are shown in fig. 1 in detail, and it can be seen from fig. 1 that the unsaturated polyester resin in the above examples has excellent thickening performance and good physical and mechanical properties, and can meet the requirements of sheet molding compound.
It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that modifications and equivalents may be made to the embodiments described above, and that various modifications, equivalents, improvements and the like may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
Claims (4)
1. An unsaturated polyester resin for sheet molding compounds, characterized in that: the catalyst consists of the following components in molar ratio: maleic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, propylene glycol, neopentyl glycol are 5: 1: 2.8-3.2: 2.8 to 3.2.
2. A preparation method of unsaturated polyester resin for sheet molding compound is characterized by comprising the following steps: the preparation method comprises the following steps:
step one, maleic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, propylene glycol and neopentyl glycol are mixed according to a molar ratio of 5: 1: 2.8-3.2: 2.8-3.2, adding the mixture into a reaction kettle, and carrying out melt polycondensation reaction at the temperature of 160-220 ℃ to obtain a polycondensate;
adding the polycondensate obtained through reaction into styrene, wherein the mass ratio of the polycondensate to the styrene is 60-55: 40-45, and finally stirring and diluting uniformly at the temperature of 60-80 ℃;
adding epoxy resin, wherein the molar ratio of phthalic anhydride to epoxy resin is 1: 0.2 to 0.8, and modifying and extending the chain to obtain the unsaturated polyester resin with excellent thickening performance for the sheet molding compound.
3. The method for preparing an unsaturated polyester resin for sheet molding compounds as claimed in claim 2, wherein: the epoxy resin in the step (III) is epoxy resin E51.
4. The method for preparing an unsaturated polyester resin for sheet molding compounds as claimed in claim 2, wherein: the epoxy resin in the step (III) is epoxy resin E44.
