The invention discloses a remote asset management system and a method thereof, wherein the system comprises a watchdog client unit and an IT asset management unit which are connected with each other, and the IT asset management unit comprises a watchdog service module and an itil service management module; the itil service management module comprises a CMDB database; and the watchdog service module judges whether the IT asset configuration information uploaded by the watchdog client unit is stored in the CMDB database, if not, the IT asset configuration information is stored, if so, the IT asset configuration information is judged whether the content of the IT asset configuration information is changed, and if so, the changed IT asset configuration information is stored. The invention can automatically discover and identify the IT equipment to be managed, automatically butt joint the corresponding configuration change flow, and greatly reduce the working pressure of the enterprise IT service management process.
