Description

Plant protection agent
The present invention relates to compositions useful for plant protection, in particular for protecting crops and animals and plants from fungal disorders, in particular, the present invention relates to compositions comprising Captan (Captan) and an oil or mixture of oils, the use of the mixture of Captan and a vegetable oil as a plant protective agent, and methods of treating plants.
Plant protection plays an important role in the commercial cultivation of crops and ornamental plants. On the one hand, plants should be protected from diseases, and on the other hand, for ecological reasons and for cost reasons, the use of plant protection agents should be avoided as far as possible. In some cases, the use of plant protection agents is inevitable, so increasing the efficiency of plant protection agents is an important issue.
Captan, a phthalimide compound, is a known plant protectant used as a fungicide. Captan is used as a contact fungicide in fruit farming to prevent apple and pear rust (Apfelschorf & Birnenschorf) and storage decay caused by fungal pathogens. Typically, the active ingredient is commercially available as water dispersible granules.
Typically, captan is applied to plants in the form of an aqueous formulation. Since captan is almost insoluble in water, a relatively high dose is required to obtain satisfactory results.
It is an object of the present invention to provide formulations for the treatment of plants wherein the active ingredients known in the prior art are processed into a form which provides a higher efficacy compared to the processed forms known in the prior art.
The subject of the invention is a composition for use as a plant protection agent, comprising
A10 to 65% by weight of captan
B35 to 90 wt% of an oil or mixture of oils, wherein the oil is selected from the group consisting of vegetable oils and derivatives thereof, synthetic oils, and mixtures of any of the above.
The compositions according to the invention are present in liquid form and show high efficiency as plant protection agents. The active ingredient captan is processed in vegetable oil to facilitate application to plants and plant parts. It has surprisingly been found that greater efficacy can be obtained by formulation in vegetable oils, so that the total amount of active ingredient can be reduced.
In a preferred embodiment, the composition of the invention contains 20 to 65% by weight captan and 35 to 90% by weight vegetable oil.
In addition to captan, other plant protection agents known from the prior art, in particular insecticides, can also be included in the compositions of the invention. These insecticides should be selected so that they do not compromise the efficacy of captan and the advantages of the compositions of the present invention.
According to the invention, the active ingredient captan and optionally other insecticides are dispersed in an oil selected from the group consisting of vegetable oils and their derivatives and any mixtures of the above. Oil is an organic liquid that is immiscible with water. The vegetable oil may be selected from palm oil, soybean oil, rapeseed oil, sunflower oil, palm kernel oil, cottonseed oil, peanut oil, corn oil, coconut oil, olive oil, sesame oil, linseed oil, safflower oil and any mixture of the foregoing. Preferred oils are palm oil, soybean oil, rapeseed oil and sunflower oil, of which rapeseed oil is particularly suitable. Derivatives of vegetable oils include in particular compounds obtained by transesterification of vegetable oils, preferably fatty acid alkyl esters. A particularly suitable fatty acid alkyl ester is C 1 -C 6 An alkyl ester. As fatty acid alkyl esters there may be used those obtained by transesterification of vegetable oils and are therefore based on mixtures of different fatty acids, which have a fatty acid chain distribution corresponding to that of vegetable oils. Fatty acid alkyl esters prepared synthetically and having a narrow fatty acid chain distribution may also be used.
The synthetic oil is preferably selected from poly-alpha-olefin or dicarboxylate base oils.
The compositions of the invention may contain minor amounts of mineral and synthetic oils in addition to the vegetable oils and/or derivatives thereof contained in the invention. Mineral and synthetic oils may be included in amounts up to 2% by weight based on the composition.
In one possible embodiment, the composition of the invention is preferably present as a dispersion. For the preparation of the dispersion, the composition preferably contains as component C a dispersing assistant, for example a surface-active substance. The dispersing aid is preferably contained in an amount of 1 to 10% by weight.
Surface-active substances can be used as emulsifiers, dispersing assistants, protective colloids or wetting agents and can be selected from anionic, nonionic, cationic or amphoteric surfactants, block polymers, polyelectrolytes and mixtures of the above.
Suitable anionic surfactants are alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium salts of sulfonic acids, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, carboxylic acids and any mixtures thereof, especially alkylarylsulfonates, diphenylsulfonates, alpha-olefin sulfonates, ligninsulfonates, sulfonates of fatty acids and oils, sulfonates of ethoxylated alkylphenols, sulfonates of alkoxylated arylphenols, condensed naphthalenesulfonates, sulfonates of dodecyl-tridecylbenzene, sulfonates of naphthalene and alkylnaphthalenes, sulfosuccinates or sulfosuccinamates, the sulfates of: fatty acids and oils, ethoxylated alkylphenols, fatty alcohols, alkoxylated fatty alcohols or fatty acid esters, phosphate esters, alkyl carboxylate esters, carboxylated alcohols or alkyl phenol ethoxy esters.
Suitable nonionic surfactants are alkoxylates, N-substituted fatty acid amides, N-substituted fatty acid amino oxides and N-substituted fatty acid esters, sugar-based surfactants, polymeric surfactants, alkoxylates of fatty alcohols, alkylphenols, fatty amines, fatty acid amides, arylphenols, fatty acids or fatty acid esters, N-substituted fatty acid amides, fatty acid esters, glycerol esters or monoglycerides. Examples of sugar-based surface-active substances are sorbitol, ethoxylated sorbitol, sucrose or glucose esters, and alkylpolyglucosides. Examples of polymeric surface-active substances are homopolymers and copolymers of vinylpyrrolidone, vinyl alcohol or vinyl acetate.
Suitable cationic surfactants are quaternary surfactants, for example quaternary ammonium compounds having one or two hydrophobic groups or salts of long chain primary amides. Suitable amphoteric surfactants are alkyl betaines and imidazolines. Suitable block polymers are block polymers of the A-B or A-B-A type, which have blocks of polyethylene oxide and polypropylene oxide, or block polymers of the A-B-C type, which have blocks of alkanol, polyethylene oxide and polypropylene oxide. Suitable polyelectrolytes are polyacids or polybases, for example basic salts of polyacrylic acid or polyacrylic acid copolymers, Polyvinylamine (Polyvinylamine) or Polyvinylamine (Polyethyleneamine).
As further inclusions, the compositions according to the invention may contain, as component D, protective colloids, rheology modifiers, such as 2-ethylhexanol, thickeners, thixotropic agents, fillers, humectants, etc.
The term "filler" as used herein refers to an organic or inorganic, natural or synthetic component contained and used in the formulations of the present invention in addition to the active ingredient, which is used to facilitate application, for example, to plants, seeds or soil. Fillers are generally inert and must be suitable for use in the field of plant cultivation and plant protection.
As fillers, it is possible to use, for example, solids such as clays, natural or synthetic silicates, silica, resins, waxes, fertilizers such as ammonium salts, natural soil minerals such as kaolin, clay, talc, lime, quartz, wollastonite, montmorillonite, bentonite or silica, or synthetic minerals such as silica, alumina or silicates, in particular aluminum or magnesium silicates. Solid fillers may be added in finely divided form so that they do not precipitate out of the formulation as a solid. Fillers may be included in the compositions of the present invention in amounts of 1 to 10 weight percent.
Additionally, the compositions of the present invention may contain a humectant, such as a polyol, for example propane-1, 2-diol. The humectant may be present in an amount of 0.5 to 10 wt%, preferably 0.5 to 7.5 wt%.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the composition comprises
