Abstract
The present invention relates to a light display module, which comprises: at least one light source (121) and a light display panel (140), the light display panel (140) allowing scattering of light from the light source (121) and illumination of at least a peripheral portion (142) of the light display panel (140), characterized in that the light display panel (140) is made mainly of a light diffusing material such that the light display panel (140) is translucent. The light display assembly can be combined with the button unit.
Description
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a light display assembly. In particular, the light display assembly is incorporated into a button unit that emits light for indicating the operating state of the device or for decorative purposes.
Background
Electronic devices are often equipped with light display components for decorative or functional purposes. An important function of the light display assembly is to indicate the operating state of the device, which may be manually or automatically adjusted. Therefore, the light display assembly is typically incorporated into a button, typically used in electronic devices, for manually controlling the operation of the device's switches, whether they are used to activate, deactivate or change the device's mode of operation. The switch is used to make or break the connection of the circuit within the device. The push button is coupled with a pressing element having elastic properties to return the push button from a pressed state to an un-pressed state by means of a surface adapted to receive a force, in particular a force exerted by a finger of a person operating the switch.
The buttons commonly seen are elevator buttons for controlling the operation of the elevator. Patent document CN2298231Y describes an elevator push button including a button body that, when pressed, comes into contact with a switch of an electric circuit for operating the switch. The pressing mechanism is urged by a spring. In the case where a plurality of holes are formed around the ring structure surrounding the elevator button, light is scattered through each hole, i.e., emitted from a light source designated for each hole. However, this elevator pushbutton does not achieve uniformity of the light spread around the ring-shaped structure, since it focuses only on transmitting light through a specific point of the ring-shaped structure forming the hole.
Another button disclosed in patent document US5039832A is an illuminated touch button having a button element located within and surrounded by a light ring element having an array of light emitting diodes. The light ring element includes a series of individual chambers positioned substantially above each of the light emitting diodes in the array. In order to transmit the light uniformly to the open end of the ring where the button elements are located, each chamber is provided with a set of three light-receiving triangular faces having a series of edges which act as diffuse light-emitting diode illumination. Although the combination of the chamber and the rim produces a uniform light distribution in the light annular element, the button requires the formation of multiple light sources and triangular faces of the chamber to achieve uniform light scattering.
Accordingly, the present invention is directed to addressing the shortcomings of including the prior light display assemblies and buttons described above.

Detailed Description
For a better understanding of the present invention, preferred embodiments thereof shown in the drawings will be described in detail.
The present invention relates to a light display panel that can be incorporated into a button unit of a device (200) for providing a visual indication of the operational status of the device (200) or for achieving decorative purposes of the device (200). The button unit is manipulated for operating a switch (122) belonging to an electric circuit within the device (200). The device (200) may be any electrical device such as an air conditioning unit. By means of the button unit, the operation of the device (200) for performing functions including activating, deactivating or changing the operation mode can be controlled. It is noted that the term "manipulation" and its derivatives as used herein refer to any action applied to the button unit for operating the switch (122), and thus the operation of the adjustment device (200). Actions that involve the application of force on the button unit include, but are not limited to, pressing, depressing, hitting, punching, and tamping, which actions are collectively referred to herein as "pressing".
Fig. 1 illustrates an example of the present invention incorporating a light display assembly as part of a button unit for providing a visual indication of the operating status of the device (200) or for decorative purposes. The operation of the device (200) may be controlled automatically or manually. In the example of the manual control device (200) by using the switch (122), the light display panel (140) emits light of a first color when the switch (122) is activated, or the light display panel (140) stops emitting light or emits light of a second color when the switch (122) is deactivated.
However, it should be noted that the light display assembly can function independently without being associated with a button unit. Such a light display assembly is provided with at least one light source (121) and a light display panel (140), the light display panel (140) allowing scattering of light from the light source (121) and illumination of at least a peripheral portion (142) of the light display panel (140). No components associated with the button unit are involved in such a light display panel (140) provided with a push panel (130) having a push element (132), a button cover (170) and a switch (122) (to be described later).
Referring to fig. 2, an exploded view of a preferred embodiment of the present invention is shown. The light source (121) is housed within the housing (110), wherein light emitted from the light source (121) is allowed to transmit from the housing (110). Fig. 3 shows an example of the housing (110). Light emitting diodes are used as light sources (121). To prevent unwanted light scattering, the housing (110) is made of a material of a light absorbing color, in particular a dark light absorbing color, for absorbing light and preventing light from being directed to other parts that may cause shadows, in particular when the device has a white housing.
An elastically operable pressing element (132) as part of the pressing panel (130) is responsible for guiding the pressing mechanism of the button unit. When the pressing element (132) is actuated, a switch (122) which is also accommodated in the housing (110) is operated. More specifically, upon receiving a force applied thereto, the pressing element (132) contacts the switch (122) to control the operation of the switch (122). When the pressing member (132) is elastically operable, the pressing member (132) can return to its non-pressed state when contacting the switch (122). The preferred embodiment of the pressing element (132) shown in fig. 4 is hinged to the frame portion (134) by one or more hinge elements (133a, 133 b). The pressing element (132), preferably circular, provides a surface for receiving a force for an action performed thereon. When a force is exerted on the pressing element (132), the non-hinged part of the pressing element (132) moves towards the switch (122), the switch (122) being located behind the non-hinged part of the pressing element (132), in particular behind the free end of the pressing element (132). Therefore, as shown in fig. 5, when a force is applied to the pressing member (132), the protrusion (136) can be coupled to a position of the rear surface of the pressing member (132) corresponding to the switch (122) to contact the switch (122). In addition, the switch (122) is located near the light source (121). Preferably, the switch (122) is also housed within the housing (110).
The hinge element (133) is arranged and formed in a manner to provide elastic properties so as to be able to produce a smooth pressing sensation when a force is applied to the pressing element (132). Preferably, a hinge element (133) connects the frame part (134) and the pressing element (132). Gaps are formed between the hinge elements (133), and/or between the hinge elements (133) and the frame part (134), and/or between the hinge elements (133) and the pressing elements (132).
On the other hand, the frame portion (134) serves as an outer periphery surrounding the pressing member (132) and the hinge member (133). Preferably, the pressing panel (130) is made of a transparent material that allows direct transmission of light from the light source (121) to maximize light transmission and prevent shadows of the display hinge element (133).
The light display panel (140) as shown in fig. 6 and 7 is disposed behind the pressing member (132) with respect to the light transmission direction. The light display panel (140) allows scattering of light from the light source (121) and illumination of at least a peripheral portion (142) of the light display panel (140) bounding the pressing element (132), i.e. the light display panel (140) has a peripheral portion (142) surrounding the pressing element (132) and an opening (143) surrounded by the peripheral portion (142) to expose the pressing element (132). Preferably, the peripheral portion (142) is annular in shape. In a preferred embodiment, the light display panel (140) is made primarily of a light diffusing material that diffuses light to promote the transmission of a diffuse and soft beam of light, rather than a bright beam spot. The use of light diffusing material makes the light display panel (140) translucent. In addition to the positioning of the light source (121) as described above, another factor contributing to uniform light scattering is the translucency of the light display panel (140). The degree of translucency required to obtain uniform light scattering depends on the structure of the light source (121) and the distance between the light source (121) and the light display panel (140).
The panel cover (160) is disposed behind the light display panel (140) with respect to a light transmission direction from the light source (121, 122), and has at least one opening (161) for exposing the outer peripheral portion (142) of the light display panel (140) and the pressing member (132). A peripheral portion (142) of the light display panel (140) is fitted around an inner boundary face of the opening (161). Further, the present invention may include a button cover (170) for covering the pressing member (132) such that only a peripheral portion (142) of the light display panel (140) emitting light is presented to an outer surface of the device (200). The button cover (170) represents an appearance of the button unit for a user to manipulate to operate the switch (122). The button may be used as an on/off button whereby a user can press the button cover (170) to activate or deactivate operation of the device (200). Preferably, the panel cover (160) and the button cover (170) have a color matching with the housing. For example, a white housing would match a white faceplate cover (160) and a button cover (170).
In order to prevent unwanted light scattering, a light absorbing component (150) is arranged in front of the panel cover (160) with respect to the light transmission direction of the light source (121). The light absorbing member (150) includes a first light absorbing layer (150a) attached to an inner surface of the panel cover (160), and a second light absorbing layer (150b) attached to an inner surface of the button cover (170), wherein the light absorbing member (150) is formed with at least one opening (151) for exposing the outer circumferential portion (142). Therefore, the opening (151) of the light absorbing member (150) substantially follows the shape of the outer peripheral portion (142) of the light display panel (140). The light absorbing component (150) may be a dark colored adhesive sheet or paint due to the light absorbing characteristics of the color.
It is to be noted that the number of light sources (121) is not limited. The light source (121) is located in front of the light display panel (140) with respect to the light transmission direction. One of the factors contributing to uniform light scattering is the positioning of the light source (121). Preferably, the pressing element (132), the light source (121) and the light display panel (140), in particular the peripheral portion (142), are aligned at substantially similar central axes to scatter light uniformly on the light display panel (140). Thus, the button covers (170) covering the pressing elements (132) are also aligned at the same central axis. Alternatively, when there is more than one light source (121), the light sources (121) are respectively disposed at the outer peripheral portion (142) of the light display panel (140) at substantially equal distances from each other while the pressing member (132) and the light display panel (140) are aligned at the same central axis. In order to prevent the operation of the switch (122) from interfering with the light source (121), when the pressing member (132) is operated, the pressing member (132) is elastically hinged to perform an eccentric operation of the switch (122) with respect to the central axis. The switch (122) is therefore located at a different axis from the light source (121), in particular behind the unhinged position of the pressing element (132).
Although the description above contains many specifications, it should be understood that the preferred form of embodiment is not to be considered as a departure from the invention, and modifications may be made thereto within the scope of the appended claims.
