The drawings are not necessarily to scale; some features may be exaggerated or minimized to show details of particular components. Therefore, specific structural and functional details disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but merely as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to variously employ the present invention.
Referring to fig. 1, an example of a seat assembly 10 is shown. The seat assembly 10 may be provided with or configured for use with a vehicle (e.g., an automotive vehicle, such as a car or truck).
The seat assembly 10 may be configured as a rear seat that may be positioned behind a front row seat of the vehicle. For example, the seat assembly 10 may be positioned behind a front seat that may accommodate a vehicle operator. The seat assembly 10 may include a seat back 20, a seat bottom 22, and at least one child seat anchor 24 (best shown in fig. 5 and 8).
Referring to fig. 1, the seat back 20 and the seat bottom 22 may cooperate to provide one or more seating positions. For example, the seat back 20 and the seat bottom 22 may cooperate to define one or more primary seating positions 30 and secondary seating positions 32. The auxiliary seating position 32 may be disposed between the two primary seating positions 30 and may be located near the center of the seat assembly 10 or at the center of the seat assembly 10. Alternatively, a foldable armrest may be provided in the seat back 20 in the auxiliary seating position 32.
The seat back 20 may be configured to support the back of a seat occupant. The seat back 20, or one or more portions thereof, may be rotatable relative to the seat bottom 22 about an axis 40. The axis 40 may extend in a generally horizontal direction. The seat back 20 may be disposed adjacent the seat bottom 22. For example, the seat back 20 may be disposed above the seat bottom 22.
The seat bottom 22 may be disposed adjacent the seat back 20. Like the seat back 20, the seat bottom 22 may also be configured to support a seat occupant. The seat bottom 22 may be configured to be mounted on a vehicle body structure 50, such as a floor pan (floor pan) of a vehicle. The seat bottom 22 may include a cushion 60 and a trim cover assembly 62.
Referring to fig. 1 and 5, the cushion 60 may be configured to help support a seat occupant. The cushion 60 may be disposed on a support structure (e.g., a frame or a suspension pad) of the seat bottom 22. The cushion 60 may be made of any suitable material, such as a molded polymer material (e.g., open cell foam or closed cell foam). In at least one configuration, the cushion 60 may at least partially define a channel 70 that may receive the child seat anchor 24.
The trim cover assembly 62 may form a seat bottomAn outer surface of at least a portion of section 22. A trim cover assembly 62 may be disposed over the cushion 60. In addition, the trim cover assembly 62 may engage the cushion 60 and may at least partially cover or conceal the cushion 60. For example, the trim cover assembly 62 may extend across a top side of the cushion 60, which may be configured to face a seat occupant. In addition, trim cover assembly 62 may extend across a front side and an opposing lateral side (lateral sides) of pad 60. The trim cover assembly 62 may be mounted to the seat bottom 22 in any suitable manner. For example, trim cover assembly 62 may be attached with one or more attachment features (e.g., hooks, clips, loops, such as
Figure BDA0002305573050000031
Hook and loop fasteners, pull cords, or the like). In at least one configuration, and as best shown in fig. 4 and 5, the trim cover assembly 62 may include a cover 80 and at least one cover flap (e.g., a first cover flap 82 and/or a second cover flap 82'). Optionally, the trim cover assembly 62 may include one or more inner coversheets, such as a first inner coversheet 84 and/or a second inner coversheet 84'.
Referring to fig. 2, 4, and 5, cover 80 may form at least a portion of the visible exterior surface of trim cover assembly 62. The cover 80 may include one or more layers that may be made of any suitable material or materials, such as fabric, vinyl, leather, wool, foam, or combinations thereof. The cover 80 may include a first side 90, a second side 92, and at least one opening 94.
The first side 90 may be the visible exterior side of the cover 80. First side 90 may be opposite to liner 60.
Second side 92 may be disposed opposite first side 90. As such, the second side 92 may face the pad 60 and may engage or contact the pad 60.
Opening 94 may extend from first side 90 to second side 92. In this way, the opening 94 may extend through the cover 80. The opening 94 may be disposed above an associated child seat anchor 24 and may facilitate access to the child seat anchor 24, as will be discussed in more detail below. The openings 94 may be arranged such that the openings 94 are spaced apart from one another. The opening 94 may have any suitable configuration. In the configuration shown in fig. 2, 4, and 5, the opening 94 is defined by the cover 80 such that the cover 80 extends continuously around the opening 94. In the configuration shown in fig. 6 and 7, the opening 94 is configured as an open-ended slot extending from a lateral side 100 of the cover 80. In at least one configuration as shown in fig. 7, the open end of the open-ended slot may face the seat belt buckle 102 and may extend to an opening or cavity that may be located between the primary seating position 30 and the secondary seating position 32 and through which the seat belt buckle 102 may extend. The opening 94 may have any suitable shape. In the configuration shown in fig. 2 and 6, the opening 94 is depicted as having a rectangular shape. The opening 94 may be larger than the child seat anchor 24.
Referring to fig. 2 and 6, one or more slits 104 may extend from the opening 94. The slit 104 may extend through the cover 80 from the first side 90 to the second side 92. The slits 104 may help to fold the cover 80 under and against itself so that the opening 94 may have a desired aesthetic appearance, and so that one or more sides of the cover 80 extending from the first side 90 to the second side 92 to define the opening 94 may not be visible. In the configuration shown in fig. 2, a slit 104 extends from each corner of the opening 94. In the configuration shown in fig. 6, the slits 104 may extend from corners of the opening 94 located away from the lateral side 100.
Referring to fig. 5 and 8, the cover 80 is shown in a configuration in which at least a portion of the cover 80 disposed adjacent the opening 94 is folded under and against itself so that the second side 92 can contact the second side 92. The portion of the cover 80 that folds under and against itself may be referred to as the folded portion 106. The first flap 82, the second flap 82', or both may extend from the respective folded portion 106. Further, the first flap 82, the second flap 82', or both may engage or contact the first side 90 of the folded portion 106. It is also contemplated that no folded portion may be provided and that the first flap 82, the second flap 82', or both may engage the second side 92 of the shroud 80.
Referring to fig. 3, an example of a flap prior to folding and assembly is shown. The flap may be the first flap 82 or the second flap 82'. The cover flap may be made of the same material or materials as the cover 80. Alternatively, the cover sheet may be made of a different material, or may include fewer layers than the cover 80. In at least one configuration, the flap can be larger than the opening 94 to help ensure that the flap extends across the opening 94. For example, the flap may have a greater width and length than the opening 94, but may have the same or a different thickness than the cover 80. The flap may be flexible to allow the flap to fold against itself, as will be discussed in more detail below.
Referring to fig. 4, 5, 7 and 8, examples of the first and second cover sheets 82 and 82' are shown.
A first cover flap 82 may be provided on the cover 80. Further, the first flap 82 may extend at least partially across the opening 94. In at least one configuration, the first flap 82 can have a first flap side 110 and a second flap side 112.
The first cover sheet side 110 may be visible through the opening 94. In this way, the first cover sheet side 110 may engage or contact a side of the cover 80 facing the liner 60. In the configuration shown in fig. 5 and 8, in which the cover 80 is folded under and against itself, the first cover sheet side 110 may engage or contact a portion of the first side 90 of the cover 80 that may face the cushion 60. In configurations where the cover 80 is not folded under and against itself, the first cover sheet side 110 may engage or contact the second side 92 of the cover 80. In the configuration where the first flap 82 is folded over and against itself, a portion of the first flap side 110 may face away from the second side 92 of the cover 80 and may face toward the pad 60 and may contact or engage the pad 60. In this folded configuration, the first flap side 110 may also face the child seat anchor 24 and may optionally contact or engage the child seat anchor 24. For example, the first flap side 110 may be disposed proximate the child seat anchor 24 near the folded end of the first flap 82 or at the folded end of the first flap 82 and may face or may engage the child seat anchor 24 near the folded end of the first flap 82 or at the folded end of the first flap 82. The fold may extend across the opening 94. A portion of the first cover side 110 disposed in the opening 94 or visible through the opening 94 may be spaced apart from the cover 80.
The second cover sheet side 112 may be disposed opposite the first cover sheet side 110. In this way, at least a portion of the second cover sheet side 112 may face away from the cover 80. In the configuration where the first flap 82 is folded over and against itself, a first portion of the second flap side 112 may face downward toward the cushion 60, while a second portion of the second flap side 112 may face upward toward the cover 80 and the first portion. As a result, the second cover sheet side 112 may be folded into contact with itself. For example, a first downwardly facing portion of the second cover sheet side 112 may contact a second upwardly facing portion of the second cover sheet side 112. The second cover sheet side 112 may be spaced apart from the cover 80 and may not be visible through the opening 94.
The second cover sheet 82' may have the same configuration as the first cover sheet 82. As such, the second cover flap 82' may be disposed on the lid 80 and under the lid 80, and may extend at least partially across the opening 94. The second flap 82' can have a first flap side 110 and a second flap side 112, and the first flap side 110 and the second flap side 112 can be similar to the first flap side 110 and the second flap side 112 of the first flap 82. Like the first flap 82, the second flap 82 'can be folded over and against itself, and the second flap side 112 of the second flap 82' can be folded over into contact with itself, as previously described. Thus, a portion of the first flap side 110 of the second flap 82' may face and may contact or engage the cushion 60, and may optionally contact or engage the child seat anchor 24.
The second cover sheet 82' may contact or engage the first cover sheet 82. For example, the first and second flaps 82, 82' may meet near the center of the opening 94. In this way, the first flap 82 and the second flap 82' may cooperate to conceal the child seat anchor 24 when the child seat anchor 24 is not in use or used to secure the child seat. The first flap 82 can be disengaged from the second flap 82 'to allow access to the child seat anchor 24 between the first flap 82 and the second flap 82'.
First and second cover sheets 82, 82' may be attached to cover 80 in any suitable manner. For example, the first flap 82, the second flap 82', or both may be sewn to the cover 80 and attached with one or more stitches (sticks) 120. The stitch 120 may be visible from the first side 90 of the cover 80 or may not be visible from the first side 90 of the cover 80. For example, the stitch 120 may extend completely through the cover 80 to a visible portion of the first side 90. As another example, the stitches 120 may not extend to the visible portion of the first side 90. For example, the stitches may extend partially through the cover 80 or through less than all of the layers of the cover 80. In the configuration shown in fig. 5 and 8, the stitch 120 extends through the portion of the cover 80 folded under and against itself, but does not extend to the visible portion of the first side 90 that faces away from the liner 60. It is also contemplated that the first and second cover sheets 82, 82' may be attached to the lid 80 in other ways, such as with an adhesive.
Referring to FIG. 8, an example of a first inner coversheet 84 and a second inner coversheet 84' is shown. The first and second inner coversheets 84 and 84' may help to further mask the liner 60 so that the liner 60 may not be visible through the opening 94 or the open end 130 of the open ended slot, the open ended slot 130 being best shown in figures 6 and 7. It is also contemplated that the first inner coversheet 84, the second inner coversheet 84', or both, may be provided with the configuration shown in figure 5.
A first inner coversheet 84 may be disposed between the liner 60 and the first coversheet 82. In addition, the first inner flap 84 may extend into the channel 70 in the cushion 60 and may be partially received in the channel 70, the channel 70 receiving the child seat anchor 24. In at least one configuration, the first inner flap 84 can have a first inner flap side 140 and a second inner flap side 142.
The first interior cover sheet side 140 may face away from the liner 60. In this way, the first inner flap side 140 may engage or contact the first flap 82. For example, in a configuration in which the first flap 82 is folded over and against itself, the first inner flap side 140 may engage or contact the first flap side 110 of the first flap 82. Optionally, the first interior flap side 140 may extend to the child seat anchor 24 and may engage or contact the child seat anchor 24. A first interior cover sheet side 140 is visible through the open end 130 of the opening 94. The first interior flap side 140 is also visible through the opening 94 when the first and second flaps 82, 82' are opened or separated.
The second interior cover sheet side 142 may be disposed opposite the first interior cover sheet side 140. In this way, the second inner flap side 142 may face away from the first flap 82 and the child seat anchor 24 and may engage or contact the cushion 60. The second interior cover sheet side 142 may not be visible through the opening 94 or through the open end 130 of the opening 94.
The first inner flap 84 may be attached to the hood 80, the first flap 82, or both in any suitable manner. For example, the first inner flap 84 may be sewn to the cover 80, the first flap 82, or both with one or more stitches 120. In at least one configuration, the stitch 120 may extend through the cover 80, the first flap 82, and the first inner flap 84, and may couple the cover 80, the first flap 82, and the first inner flap 84. It is also contemplated that the first inner flap 84 may be otherwise attached (e.g., with adhesive) to the lid 80, the first flap 82, or both.
Alternatively, the first inner flap 84 may be attached or secured to another component, such as the cushion 60, the child seat anchor 24, or both. For example, the first inner coversheet 84 may be secured to the liner 60 with a fastening means 150 (e.g., a fastener such as a loop, hook and loop fastener, adhesive, or the like). As another example, the first inner flap 84 may be secured to the child seat anchor 24 with a similar fastening device. In fig. 8, the first inner flap 84 is shown attached to the child seat anchor 24 by a fastening device 150, which fastening device 150 may be configured as a strap that may extend around the child seat anchor 24.
A second inner flap 84' may be disposed on the opposite side of the child seat anchor 24 from the first inner flap 84. The second inner flap 84', or a portion thereof, may extend to the child seat anchor 24 and/or may be spaced apart from the first inner flap 84. The second inner coversheet 84' may have the same configuration as the first inner coversheet 84. In this way, a second inner flap 84 'may be disposed between the liner 60 and the second flap 82' and may extend into the channel 70 or may be partially received in the channel 70. The second inner flap 84' can have a first inner flap side 140 and a second inner flap side 142, and the first inner flap side 140 and the second inner flap side 142 can be similar to the first inner flap side 140 and the second inner flap side 142 of the first inner flap 84. In the configuration where the second flap 82 ' is folded over and against itself, the first inner flap side 140 of the second inner flap 84 ' may engage or contact the first flap side 110 of the second flap 82 '. The second inner flap side 142 of the second inner flap 84 'may face away from the second flap 82' and the child seat anchor 24, and may engage or contact the cushion 60.
The second inner flap 84 'may be attached to the hood 80, the second flap 82' or both in any suitable manner. For example, the second inner flap 84 'may be sewn to the cover 80, the second flap 82' or both with one or more stitches 120. In at least one configuration, the stitches 120 may extend through the cover 80, the second cover sheet 82 ', and the second inner cover sheet 84', and may couple the cover 80, the second cover sheet 82 ', and the second inner cover sheet 84'. It is contemplated that the second inner flap 84 'may be attached to the lid 80, the second flap 82' or both in other manners (e.g., with adhesive).
Alternatively, the second inner flap 84' may be attached or secured to another component, such as the cushion 60, the child seat anchor 24, or both, as previously discussed with respect to the first inner flap 84. In fig. 8, second inner flap 84' is shown attached to cushion 60 by fastening means 150 (e.g., a ring or clip).
The trim cover assembly 62 may be assembled using the following steps. First, an opening 94 may be provided in the cover 80. Optionally, the cover 80 may be folded adjacent the opening 94 to form one or more folded portions 106. Next, one or more cover flaps may be folded and positioned adjacent to the opening 94 of the lid 80. Optionally, one or more inner coverslips may be positioned adjacent to a respective coverslip. Next, the cover 80, flap, and inner flap may be assembled or attached. The trim cover assembly 62 may then be assembled to the cushion 60, and the inner coversheet (if provided) may be positioned in the channel 70 in the cushion 60.
Referring to fig. 1, 5 and 8, one or more child seat anchors 24 may be provided, which may facilitate the installation of the child seat. In the seat configuration shown in fig. 1, four child seat anchors 24 are provided; however, it is contemplated that a different number of child seat anchors 24 may be provided with the seat assembly 10. The child seat anchor 24 may be an Isofix anchor that may allow a compatible child safety seat to be secured to a vehicle, for example without the use of a vehicle seat belt. As one example, the child seat anchor 24 may be configured as a generally rectangular loop that may be fixedly attached to a structural member, such as the vehicle body structure 50 or a support structure or frame of the seat assembly 10. The child seat anchor 24 may be disposed proximate the pad 60. For example, the child seat anchor 24 may be received in a corresponding channel 70 of the pad 60, and the child seat anchor 24 may be concealed by the trim cover assembly 62 when the child seat is not coupled to the child seat anchor 24. As such, the trim cover assembly 62 may help to conceal the child seat anchor 24, the cushion 60, or both to provide a desired aesthetic appearance, yet also provide access to the child seat anchor 24 for securing the child seat. When the cushion 60 is compressed, such as by a portion of an attached child seat, the child seat anchor 24 may extend partially between the first flap 82 and the second flap 82' and through the opening 94.
While exemplary embodiments are described above, it is not intended that these embodiments describe all possible forms of the invention. Rather, the words used in the specification are words of description rather than limitation, and it is understood that various changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Furthermore, the features of the various implementing embodiments may be combined to form further embodiments of the invention.
