Detailed Description
The illustrated embodiments are disclosed with reference to the accompanying drawings. However, it is to be understood that the disclosed embodiments are intended to be merely exemplary of the various and alternative forms that may be employed. The figures are not necessarily to scale and some features may be exaggerated or minimized to show details of particular components. Specific structural and functional details disclosed are not to be interpreted as limiting, but as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art how to practice the disclosed concepts.
Referring to fig. 1, a seat back 10 is partially shown and includes a seat back release handle assembly 12. The seat back release handle assembly 12 includes a handle 14, the handle 14 being raised to release the seat back 10 from the seat support structure of the vehicle behind the seat. The bezel 16 is assembled to the seat back release handle assembly 12 to cover the edges of the trim material (not shown in fig. 1) that are attached to the seat back release handle assembly 12.
Referring to fig. 2 and 3, the seat back 10 is shown with the housing 18 attached to the seat back 10. In fig. 2, the soft trim material is not shown to better view the wire retainer 20 that secures the soft trim material to the bottom end of the housing 18. In fig. 3, the seat back 10 is shown with the shell 18 attached to the seat back 10, and the soft trim material 22 is shown as being hemmed over the retainer lines, and laterally adjacent edges of the soft trim material 22 are attached to the sides of the shell 18.
Referring to fig. 4 and 5, the seat back release handle assembly 12 is shown in a left/top perspective view in fig. 4 and in a front/side perspective view in fig. 5. The seat back release handle assembly 12 includes a housing 18, a bezel 16, and a handle 14. The retainer wire 20 is assembled to a notch 24 defined by the housing 18. The side surfaces 26 define openings 28, the openings 28 being configured to secure lateral edges of the soft trim material 22 to the housing. Clips, fasteners or hooks (not shown in fig. 4 and 5) may be used to attach the soft trim material 22 to the opening 28 in the housing 18. The wire retainer 20 has two doubled over ends 30 on opposite right and left ends extending laterally outward from the side 26 of the housing 18.
The term lateral refers to the direction transverse to the vehicle (cross-car direction), top refers to the upper portion of the seat back 10, and bottom refers to the front surface of the seat back 10 below the seat back release handle assembly 12.
The seat back release handle assembly 12 includes or is attached to a latch 32, the latch 32 cooperating with a catch (striker)34, the catch 34 in turn being anchored to a vehicle 36. The vehicle 36 provides a seat support structure behind and below the seat, as is well known in the art.
Referring to fig. 6, the seat back release handle assembly 12 is shown with the major components exploded away from each other to better see the structure of the various components and their relationship to the other components.
