Abstract

A mobile hand washing system (100) includes a soap dispenser (80) and a cap (60) configured to mate with both the soap dispenser (80) and a water bottle (50). In a first embodiment, the water bottle (50) is a rigid water bottle screwed onto the cap (60). The soap dispenser (80) includes external threads (87) on the container (83), the container (83) also being threaded onto the cap (60). In a second embodiment, the mobile hand washing system is attached to a disposable plastic water bottle and further includes a soap dispenser. In either embodiment, the system (200) may be used for drinking water, or for providing soap and water separately for hand washing, etc.

Technical Field

The present disclosure relates generally to devices that assist with personal hygiene and, more particularly, to a portable hand washing system.

Background

Active individuals or active households are often in public areas such as zoos or parks, with limited resources and opportunities to properly wash their hands with soap and water when needed. If no soap and water are available, hand washing may be avoided or delayed. Although it is possible to use only hand sanitizers, wet wipes, or water (if any) as an alternative, the CDC industry and other public health agencies recommend the use of soap and water to wash hands as the best method of reducing the number of harmful microorganisms in most cases. The handwash solutions are considered by the CDC as a "makeup" of handwashing and are not always effective at killing certain types of microorganisms. Furthermore, these alternative hand washing methods are not as effective as soap and water when the human hands are dirty and greasy (especially for children and in outdoor environments).

Disclosure of Invention

A portable hand washing system includes a soap dispenser and a cap configured to mate (fit) with both the soap dispenser and a water bottle. In a first embodiment, the water bottle is a rigid water bottle screwed onto the cap. The soap dispenser includes external threads on the container (reservoir) which also screws onto the cap. In a second embodiment, the mobile hand washing system is attached to a disposable plastic water bottle and further includes a soap dispenser. In either embodiment, the system may be used for drinking water, or for supplying soap and water separately for hand washing, etc.

Detailed Description

Exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure will now be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which exemplary embodiments are shown. The concepts discussed herein may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as being limited to the example embodiments set forth herein. Rather, these embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the scope to those skilled in the art. Like reference numerals refer to like elements, but not necessarily to the same or identical elements throughout.

Referring to fig. 1, a perspective view of a mobile hand washing system 100 according to a first embodiment of the present disclosure is shown. Mobile hand washing system 100 includes water bottle 50, soap dispenser 80, and lid 60. The water bottle 50 is preferably made of a rigid material, such as metal (e.g., stainless steel) or hard plastic, and is preferably capable of holding at least 16 ounces of water, although other volumes may suffice. The cover 60 may be made of molded hard plastic, metal, or another suitable durable material. The cover 60 includes a cap 61 that covers a rinse nozzle 62 (fig. 3) from which water can be poured to rinse the hands after they have been soaped. The water poured from the rinse nozzle 62 passes through the conduit 65 and out. The user can also pour water for drinking by unscrewing the flush spout 62 from the lid to expose the drinking spout 64.

Because the diameter of the drink spout 64 is greater than the diameter of the rinse spout 62, water is poured out of the drink spout 64 at a faster rate. Furthermore, because the drinking spout 64 and the rinse spout 62 are separate, the user does not have to worry about contamination during hand washing. Also shown is a handle 66 for ease of carrying and a tether 63 connecting cap 61 to cover 60. An important aspect of the present disclosure is that the cap 60 is configured to mate with both the water bottle 50 and the soap dispenser 80. This arrangement allows the user to drink water while being thirsty, and also allows soap and water to be supplied separately for washing hands and the like.

Fig. 2A shows a top perspective view of the cover 60. The pump head 82 and the attachment of the tether 63 to the cover 60 can be seen more clearly from this view. It should be understood, however, that tether 63 and cap 63 need not be included. Furthermore, it should be understood that the particular decorative aspects of the design shown in the various figures are not meant to be limiting.

Fig. 2B shows a bottom perspective view of the cover 60. As shown in fig. 2B, the lid base 69 includes a first lid opening 67A having first lid threads 67B and a second lid opening 68A having second lid threads 68B.

Fig. 3 shows an exploded view of portable hand washing system 100. The water bottle 50 may be attached to (screwed into) the cap 60 such that the first cap opening 67A is aligned with the water bottle top opening 55 because the first bottle threads 54 are complementary to the first cap threads 67A.

Fig. 4 shows an exploded view of the soap dispenser 80. The soap dispenser 80 includes a manual pump 89. As is known in the art, when a user presses a pump, such as that shown, the liquid may be withdrawn. In the illustrated embodiment, when the pump head 86 is depressed, a quantity of soap is drawn from the soap container 83 through the soap dispenser dip tube 88 and out of the pump top opening 84 in the pump head 86. Preferably, the soap in the container 83 is a foaming soap, although other types of liquid soap may suffice. It should be understood that the volume of the water bottle 50 is several times the volume of the container 83. Furthermore, it is preferred that the container 83 can be removed so that it can be refilled by unscrewing the container 83. The container threads 87 are complementary to the second cap threads 68B so that the container 83 can be screwed onto the cap 60 (or unscrewed from the cap 60). The manual pump 89 may be inserted into the container 83 such that a majority of the manual pump 89 is located within the container 83. In a preferred embodiment, the user may refill the container 83 with soap. In other embodiments, the container 83 is not refillable.

Referring to fig. 5, a perspective view of a mobile hand washing system 200 according to a second embodiment of the present disclosure is shown. Mobile hand washing system 200 is conceptually similar to mobile hand washing system 100, with the primary difference being that mobile hand washing system 200 is adapted for a disposable water bottle (typically made of plastic and intended for a single use). As shown, mobile hand washing system 200 includes a body 90 that may hold soap dispenser 70 at an acute angle (e.g., about 45 degrees) relative to water bottle top connector 94 that mates with a disposable plastic water bottle. Such plastic water bottles typically contain about 12 to 24 ounces of water and have a top opening with an outer diameter of no more than about 35 millimeters. Examples of such plastic water bottles include bottled water from Arrowhead, Aquafina, Ejian, Dasani, and Poland Springs. It should be understood that other sizes of bottles may be used so long as the top of the water bottle used fits snugly into top connector 94. Thus, it should also be understood that the inner diameter of top connector 94 will be sized accordingly.

Fig. 6 shows another perspective view of mobile hand washing system 200. In this view, the body opening 92 is shown. When portable hand washing system 200 is used, body opening 92 extends to the attached water bottle and is in fluid communication with water contained in the water bottle so that water can flow from the attached water bottle through the opening.

Fig. 7 shows a cross-sectional view of mobile hand washing system 200. It can be seen that body 90 includes a body cavity 96 sized to fit snugly to soap dispenser 70. In a preferred embodiment, the soap dispenser 70 may be pulled from the body cavity 96 to be refilled or replaced. In other embodiments, the soap dispenser 70 is not refillable.

Fig. 8 shows a perspective view of the soap dispenser 70. The soap dispenser 70 includes a container 78 attached thereto. The container 78 may be filled with liquid soap, preferably foamed soap, although other types of liquid soap and the like may suffice. The soap dispenser 70 may be a manual pump so that soap may be drawn from the container 78 by depressing the pump head 76.

In operation, a method for washing hands comprises: providing a mobile hand washing system (i.e., mobile hand washing system 100 or mobile hand washing system 200) that dispenses soap from a soap dispenser onto at least one hand of a person; rubbing the human hands together; water is poured from the bottle through the opening onto a person's hand for rinsing.

Although features, functions, components, and parts have been described herein in accordance with the teachings of the present disclosure, the scope of coverage of this patent is not limited thereto. On the contrary, this patent covers all embodiments of the teachings of the disclosure that fairly fall within the scope of permissible equivalents.

Many modifications and other embodiments of the disclosure set forth herein will come to mind to one skilled in the art to which this disclosure pertains having the benefit of the teachings presented in the foregoing descriptions and the associated drawings. Therefore, it is to be understood that the disclosure is not to be limited to the specific embodiments disclosed and that modifications and other embodiments are intended to be included within the scope of the appended claims. Although specific terms are employed herein, they are used in a generic and descriptive sense only and not for purposes of limitation.

Claims

1. A portable hand washing system comprising:

a soap dispenser; and

a cap configured to mate with both the soap dispenser and the water bottle.

2. The portable hand washing system of claim 1, wherein the lid includes an opening in fluid communication with the water bottle.

3. The mobile hand washing system of claim 2, wherein the soap dispenser dispenses soap using a pump.

4. The mobile hand washing system of claim 3, wherein the soap is a foaming soap.

5. The mobile hand washing system of claim 2, wherein the soap dispenser comprises a pump in fluid communication with the reservoir.

6. The mobile hand washing system of claim 5, wherein the container is detachable from the pump to allow the container to be refilled.

7. The portable hand washing system of claim 6, wherein the cap includes first and second threads, the first thread being complementary to a thread of the water bottle, and the second thread being complementary to the container.

8. The mobile hand washing system of claim 7, wherein the container is removable from the pump by unscrewing the container from the lid.

9. The mobile hand washing system of claim 1, wherein the water bottle has a volume that is several times the volume of the container.

10. The portable hand washing system of claim 1, wherein the water bottle is a disposable plastic water bottle.

11. The mobile hand washing system of claim 1, wherein the water bottle is a rigid water bottle.

12. The portable hand washing system of claim 11, wherein the water bottle is made of metal.

13. The portable hand washing system of claim 1, wherein the water bottle has a top opening with an inner diameter of no greater than about 35 mm.

14. The portable hand washing system of claim 1, wherein the water bottle has a top opening with an inner diameter greater than about 100 mm.

15. A method of washing hands using a portable hand washing system including a soap dispenser, a water bottle, and a lid configured to mate with both the soap dispenser and the water container, the method comprising:

dispensing soap from the soap dispenser onto at least one hand of a person;

rubbing the hands of the person together; and

pouring water from the water bottle through an opening in the cap onto the person's hand for rinsing.

16. The method of washing hands of claim 15, wherein the dispensed soap is a foaming soap.
