A sharps container according to claim 1 wherein an electric motor cover (15) is secured to the rear side of the main cover (2) to enclose the electric motor (16), and a battery is mounted in the electric motor cover (15) for supplying power to the electric motor, whereby when the battery is installed, the battery is recharged in the container.
