Description

Terminal assembly with temperature sensor
Technical Field
The present invention relates to the field of electrical connections, and more particularly, to a terminal assembly with a temperature sensor.
Background
The direct current quick charging interface is widely used in the field of electric automobiles. For the direct current quick charging interface, the phenomenon of overhigh temperature can occur due to larger current in the charging process. In contrast, a temperature sensor is provided on the high-current power supply terminal, and the terminal heating temperature can be monitored in real time.
Currently, there are two common ways of fixing the temperature sensor. One is with temperature sensor laminating on the terminal, and it is fixed to tie up through the heat shrinkage bush of outside parcel, but the shortcoming that this kind of fixed mode exists lies in, the interface uses the back for a long time, and the easy ageing crackle that takes place of heat shrinkage bush damages the piece, leads to temperature sensor to deviate from. The other is to punch the terminal of the interface and put the head of the temperature sensor into the terminal hole, but the fixing mode has the defects that the electrical clearance between the two is small, and the insulation and voltage resistance performance is invalid due to the abrasion of the temperature sensor after long-time use. The final result of both fixing methods is that the terminal temperature cannot be detected in real time. Therefore, there is still a need for improvement of the structure of fixing the temperature sensor to the existing terminal.

According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the terminal assembly 10 provided with the temperature sensor 70 is particularly suitable for a dc quick charging interface in an electric vehicle. In a dc quick fill interface, the terminal assemblies 10 are typically used in pairs. It should be understood that the terminal assembly 10 of the present invention is not limited to this use and may be used with other interface connectors provided with a temperature sensor 70.
As shown in fig. 1 and 2, the terminal assembly 10 according to the present invention includes a terminal 20 made of a conductive material. As shown in fig. 1, one end of the terminal 20 is configured as a wire end 21 for connection to a wire 30, while the other end of the terminal 20 is a mating end that mates with a mating terminal assembly 10. In the preferred embodiment, the terminal 21 of the terminal 20 is provided with a bonding pad 23, and the conductive core of the wire 30 is secured to the terminal 21 by soldering. Land 23 may be a flat surface on terminal 21 of the terminal.
In the preferred embodiment, the wire 30 is connected to the terminal 20 at a 90 degree angle to form an L-shaped terminal wire assembly, i.e., the terminal 20 extends in the X direction shown in fig. 1, and the wire 30 extends in the Y direction shown in fig. 1, the X direction being substantially perpendicular to the Y direction.
The terminal assembly 10 further comprises a temperature sensor 70 for measuring the temperature of the terminal 20, in particular at the terminal end 21 of the terminal 20. Preferably, the temperature sensor 70 may employ a conventional touch sensor. Further, as shown in fig. 1, the temperature sensor 70 is also connected to a cable that transmits the measurement result.
Specifically, the terminal assembly 10 according to the present invention further includes a protection cover 50, the protection cover 50 being integrally provided with a sensor fixing portion that fixes the temperature sensor 70 to the protection cover 50 such that the temperature sensor 70 is disposed adjacent to an outer surface of the terminal 20. In other words, the protective cover 50 is a member for keeping the temperature sensor 70 arranged in close proximity to the terminals. More preferably, the protective cover 50 has the temperature sensor 70 disposed in direct contact with an outer surface of the terminal 20.
Next, the structure of the protective cover 50 according to the present invention will be described in detail with reference to fig. 4 and 5.
The protective cover 50 of fig. 4 and 5 is particularly suitable for an L-shaped terminal wire assembly as shown in fig. 1. As shown in fig. 5, the protective cover 50 is formed with terminal holes 56 and wire holes 57, the terminal holes 56 being for passing out terminals, and the wire holes 57 being for passing out wires. For the L-shaped terminal wire assembly, the terminal holes 56 and the wire holes 57 on the protective cover 50 are provided on both surfaces arranged in the 90-degree direction, respectively. In the exemplary embodiment shown in fig. 5, the terminal openings 56 are rectangular in shape, while the wire guide openings 57 are circular in shape.
Further, the protective cover 50 includes a first cover part 51 and a second cover part 52, and the two cover parts 51, 52 are attached together by a hinge mechanism 58 (see fig. 3). As shown in fig. 5, the hinge mechanism 58 is provided on a side wall of the protective cover 50 opposite to the terminal hole 56, and as seen from the opened state of the protective cover 50 of fig. 4, the first cover part 51 forms a part of each of the terminal hole 56 and the wire hole 57, and the second cover part 52 forms another part of each of the terminal hole 56 and the wire hole 57. Thus, when the protective cover 50 is separated from the two cover parts 51 and 52 as the hinge mechanism 58 is opened, the terminal holes 56 and the wire holes 57 are in an opened state to receive the terminals 20 and the wires 30, respectively, and when the two cover parts 51 and 52 are closed to close the protective cover 50 as the hinge mechanism 58 is closed, the protective cover 50 can be fixed with respect to the terminal wire assembly.
The protective cover 50 is further provided with a snap mechanism 59 for engaging the first and second cover parts 51, 52 to keep the protective cover 50 in its mounted state. As shown in fig. 4 and 5, in the preferred embodiment, the latching mechanism 59 includes a first latch disposed on a side wall of the protective cover 50 opposite the wire guide 57 and a second latch disposed on a side wall of the protective cover 50 adjacent the wire guide 57.
In other alternative embodiments, the hinge mechanism 58 may also be disposed on the side wall of the protective cover 50 opposite the wire guide 57. In a further alternative embodiment, the protective cover 50 can also be constructed in two halves which are completely open, so that the terminal holes 56 and the wire guides 57 are on both halves at the same time, respectively.
In the preferred embodiment, the sensor fixing portion is integrally formed on the protective cover 50, and preferably, the sensor fixing portion is integrally provided on a side wall of the first cover portion 51. The sensor fixing portion fixes the sensor by means of snap-in fixing.
As shown in fig. 5, the fixing portion is configured in the form of a bayonet portion 60 having an insertion opening 61 for inserting the temperature sensor 70, and a contact opening 62 for facilitating the sensor to contact the terminal, at least one surface of the terminal 20 being accessible from the contact opening 62. In a preferred embodiment, the slot portion 60 protrudes from a side wall of the first cover 51, and the extending direction of the slot portion 60 is substantially parallel to the extending direction of the terminal 20. As shown in fig. 5, it is preferable that the contact opening 62 is provided substantially flush with the terminal hole 56, and the insertion opening 61 is provided to a position substantially halfway of the side wall, the opening 61 being formed toward the hinge mechanism 58 side and outside the side wall of the protective cover 50. Further, the wall of the pocket portion 60 forms a plurality of hollowed-out portions.
Further, as shown in fig. 3, the card slot portion 60 is further provided with a fixing catch 63 at the insertion opening 61, the fixing catch 63 is formed to protrude inward from the inner wall of the card slot portion 60, and when the temperature sensor 70 is inserted into the card slot portion 60, the fixing catch 63 engages the rear end face of the temperature sensor 70 to fix it in the card slot portion 60 without coming out of the insertion opening 61. Preferably. A surface of the fixing catch 63 facing the insertion opening 61 is formed with an inclined surface to facilitate the insertion of the temperature sensor 70.
Preferably, the protective cover 50 is molded from a nylon material, and the bayonet portion 60 is integrally molded on the protective cover 50. The protective cover 50 is made of nylon and has the hinge mechanism 58, so that the terminal assembly 10 can be ensured to have good performance even after being used at high temperature, and the temperature sensor 70 can be firmly fixed in place and cannot be detached.
Fig. 3 shows a cross-sectional view of a portion of the terminal assembly 10 with the protective cover 50 mounted to the terminal and incorporating the temperature sensor 70. In the preferred embodiment, the protective cover 50 is overlaid onto the terminal wire assembly from the terminal 21 where the terminal 20 is connected to the wire 30, such that the entire bonding pad 23 is received within the cavity formed by the protective cover 50.
Further, as shown in fig. 3, the terminal 20 is formed with a surface 25 which is in direct contact with the temperature sensor 70, and the distance of the surface from the land 23 is small. In a preferred embodiment, the surface 25 is formed transversely to the direction of extension X of the terminal 20 and, in the mounted state, is immediately adjacent to the contact opening 62 of the card slot portion 60. When the temperature sensor 70 is inserted in the bayonet portion 60, the end of the temperature sensor 70 is brought into contact with the lateral surface 25 of the above-mentioned terminal 20 through the contact opening 62. Advantageously, the land 23 is the region where the entire terminal 20 is most sensitive to temperature changes, and therefore, the temperature can be measured close to this region, contributing to the temperature sensor 70 accurately and quickly grasping the temperature change of the terminal 20.
For the application of a charging interface for an electric vehicle, two terminal assemblies 10 may be used side-by-side in pairs to provide the two terminals of the interface connector. Since the terminal assemblies 10 each include the protection cover 50, when the two terminals are arranged side by side, the arrangement of the protection covers 50 increases the creepage distance between the two terminals 20, and reduces the risk that the high voltage terminal is instantaneously turned on to generate a high voltage arc in the process of transmitting a large current.
With the terminal assembly 10 according to the present invention, the reliability of the installation of the temperature sensor 70 is improved, and the assembly is convenient, the process flow is simplified, and the production cost is low.
Although the present invention has been disclosed in terms of the preferred embodiment, it is not intended to limit the invention, and variations and modifications may be made by one skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Therefore, any modification, equivalent change and modification of the above embodiments according to the technical essence of the present invention are within the protection scope defined by the claims of the present invention, unless the technical essence of the present invention departs from the content of the present invention.
