The current method commonly used in clinic is to use a flexible rule for measurement. For example, when measuring the lower limb, the measurer uses the flexible rule to wrap the lower limb by one hand at a position 15cm above the patella and at a position 10cm below the patella, fits the flexible rule to the skin, and reads the measurement value.
The existing method for measuring the circumference of the lower limb and the leg by using a flexible rule by bare hands has the following defects:
first, when the flexible rule is placed by bare hands to surround the lower limb for one circle, the width of the flexible rule is narrow, the circumference of the cross section of the lower limb is difficult to ensure when the measurement is carried out, the circumference of the inclined plane of the lower limb is easy to cause the measurement actually due to the placing of the inclined plane, the measured value is larger than the true value, the repeatability of the multiple measurement is low, the comparability is poor, the early detection of the change of the circumference of the lower limb and the leg is not facilitated, and the diagnosis and the treatment of diseases are delayed.
Secondly, because of elasticity of muscles and skin of the lower limbs, when the flexible ruler is placed by hands to surround the lower limbs for one week, the degree of tightness between the flexible ruler and the lower limbs can be judged only by experience, and the degree of tightness between the flexible ruler is different due to the difference of force exertion of personal manipulations, so that measurement errors occur, and the flexible ruler is not beneficial to early detection of the change of the leg circumference of the lower limbs and delay diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
