Description

Hair setting device
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a device for hair styling, and more particularly to a device for heating hair contained in a hair curling device.
Background
Devices for curling hair are well known and include heated curling bars, curling tongs, and curling bars, most of which include a cylindrical heating element attached to a handle. To use these devices, each portion of hair to be curled is wrapped around a heating element and then removed, and repeated operations are performed on the different portions of hair on the head.
Hair crimpers are also commonly used for hair crimping. The curling iron may be unheated or preheated prior to use. A heated hair curler comprises a hollow cylindrical roller body which is heated prior to use. A length of hair is wound around the hair curler starting at the tip of the hair and rolling towards the scalp. The curling iron is then secured to the scalp and, as the curling iron cools, heat is transferred from the curling iron to the hair wound around it. Heated hair rollers are often heavy and there is always a risk of burning the fingers when the user places the hair roller in the hair. Furthermore, hair curlers are generally only used to wrap hair in one direction, i.e. from the tip to the scalp, thereby producing only one type of curl.
CN2497602 describes a conventional hair curler which can be heated after application of the head. A hand-held device comprising a heating element shaped to surround the hair curlers and to heat the hair individually on each hair curler by contact with the heating element.
It is desirable to provide an improved hair curling device for use in beauty salons and home environments.

Detailed Description
Referring now to fig. 1a and 1b, a hair styling device 10 includes first and second arms 12, 14. Each arm has a handle portion 18, 20 connected to a grip portion 22, 24. The arms are connected together at one end adjacent the handle portion by a hinge 16. Hinge 16 may be any type of hinge mechanism that biases the gripping portions 22, 24 of the two arms of the hair styling device apart to the open position, as shown in fig. 1a, 1b and 3 a. A user may apply a squeezing force to the handle portions 18, 20 to push the clamping portions 22, 24 together, thereby closing the hair styling device 12. Fig. 3b shows the device 12 in a closed position.
The clamping portions 22, 24 comprise inner clamping surfaces 28, 30 shaped to receive a hair curling device, as described in WO 2017/098282.
Figures 3a, 3b, 4a and 4b show various cross-sectional views of the hair styling device 10. As shown in the figures, the upper clamp portion 22 includes a concave inner clamp surface 28 and the lower clamp portion 24 includes a convex inner clamp surface 30.
As shown in fig. 4a, when the clamp portions 22, 24 are in the closed position, the concave inner surface 28 of the upper clamp portion and the convex inner surface 30 of the lower clamp portion 24 are spaced apart by a distance marked X.
Fig. 5a, 5b and 5c show examples of hair curling-forming devices or curlers 32 that can be heated with the hair styling device of the present invention. Crimper 32 includes two spaced apart side portions 40, 42 connected by a centrally located connector portion 34. The first side 40 is substantially flat in profile and the second side 42 is curved in shape. In this example, the first side portion 40 is provided with five elongate protrusions or blocking members in the form of posts 44 extending in substantially the same direction as the connector portion 34 towards the second side portion 42. The second side 42 is configured to have two fixed states. A first fixed state is shown in fig. 5a, in which the second side 42 is convex in shape and curves away from the first side 40. This is the open configuration of crimper 32 and allows hair to be wrapped around connector portion 34. A second secured state is shown in fig. 5c, where the second side 42 has been folded such that it is now concave in shape and bent over the top of the connector portion 34 and the first side 40. This is the closed configuration of the crimper 32 and allows hair wound around the connector portion 34 to be secured within the crimper 32. The crimper 32 is made of a material that is both resilient and thermally conductive, and the connector portion 24 is preferably hollow, allowing the crimper 32 to be compressed.
Figure 4b shows the hair curler 32 sandwiched between the two inner clamping surfaces 28, 30. The distance X between the upper and lower clamping surfaces 28, 30 allows the curling iron 32 to be received between the clamping surfaces, but also ensures that the curling iron 32 is compressed between the clamping surfaces 28, 30 to more effectively heat hair located within the curling iron 32. Thus, the separation distance is less than the length of the connector portion 34 of the crimper 32. The posts 44 connecting the gap between the first and second sides 40, 42 of the curling iron 32 are also thermally conductive and, in this embodiment, contact the heated clamping surfaces when the curling iron is compressed, helping to transfer heat to the hair within the curling iron 32.
The hair styling device 10 includes a power cord 26, the power cord 26 extending from the device 10 near the hinge 16. The upper clamp portion 22 of the first arm 12 houses a heater element that heats a concave inner clamp surface 28 located inside the upper clamp portion 22. The concave inner clamping surface 28 is made of a thermally conductive material, such as aluminum, steel, titanium, ceramic, or other suitable material. The upper clamping surface 28 may be ceramic coated, or tourmaline coated, or teflon coated, or coated with other suitable materials. The lower inner clamping surface 30 of the lower clamping portion 24 may also be heated by a heating element located within the lower clamping portion 24. The lower clamping surface 30 may be made of a similar material as the upper clamping surface 28. The device may include a controller that allows a user to control the temperature of one or both of the clamping surfaces 28, 30 using a switch 36 located on one of the handle portions. Preferably, the upper clamping surface 28 is heatable to a temperature of about 220 ℃. Preferably, both the upper and lower clamping portions comprise an insulating material to prevent the outer surface of the device 10 from becoming hot to the touch.
The lower clamping portion 24 may contact the user's head during use and therefore the lower clamping surface 30 may not be heated to avoid discomfort. Alternatively, the lower clamping surface 30 may be heated to a lower temperature than the upper clamping surface 28. The user may select the temperature of the lower clamping surface 30 from a predetermined selection of three or more temperatures. For example, the temperature of the lower clamping surface 30 may be changed by sliding the switch 36 or rotating a dial (not shown) to a position corresponding to a desired temperature setting. The temperature settings may be selected, for example, at 0 ℃, 70 ℃, 100 ℃, 220 ℃.
Each of the clamping portions 22, 24 may be provided with a plurality of vent holes 38.
In use, several of the hair crimpers 32 are applied to the head by wrapping hair strands around the central portion 34 of each hair crimper 32. Once the hair wrap 32 is in place, it is grasped by the device 10 and clamped between the two clamping portions 22, 24. The device 10 may include a timer that is activated when the arms 12, 14 are closed and the clamping portions 22, 24 are clamped around the hair curler 32. Preferably, an audible alarm is sounded after the curling iron 32 has been heated for an optimal amount of time. The audible alarm indicates that the hair crimper 32 held within the device 10 has been sufficiently heated and should be released. Preferably, the hair crimper 32 is heated to a temperature of about 100℃ and the hair within the hair crimper 32 is heated to a temperature of about 80℃. The hair wrap 32 is removed from the hair only when it has cooled and the curls have been set, typically when the hair wrap 32 is at a temperature of 30 c or less. Several hair curlers 32 are typically used on one's head, each hair curler 32 being heated individually using the hair styling apparatus 10 of the present invention.
