The overhead ground wire is positioned above the conducting wire, is connected with the grounding body through a tower and must be fixedly connected with a tower grounding device. When thunder hits an overhead ground wire, lightning current flows into the ground through the grounding body, normal operation of a transmission line wire is protected, a shunting effect can be achieved when the lightning hits a tower, the potential of the tower top is reduced, and counterattack is avoided. When the lightning strikes the ground around the high-voltage transmission line, the ground wire has a certain shielding effect, and the induced overvoltage on the wire can be reduced.
The overall icing thickness of the power transmission line can be increased along with the bad weather, and accidents such as breakage of a lead and a ground wire, uneven inclination or collapse of a tower under stress, damage of hardware fittings and the like can be caused in severe cases. In cold winter and early spring, the icing phenomenon of power transmission lines occurs in many areas of China, and large power failure accidents such as pole collapse in Hunan, Guizhou and the like are caused in spring festival of 2008. Because the overhead ground wire mainly prevents lightning stroke and ensures the safe operation of the line, the current flowing through the overhead ground wire is often very small and is easier to be coated with ice. If the air temperature in the air rises, the ice coating of the lead is more easily fallen off than the ice coating of the ground wire under the action of gravity, so that the lead rises, and the safety distance between the lead and the ground wire is reduced.
