Description

Three-section type battery shell
Technical Field
The invention relates to the field of batteries, in particular to a three-section battery shell.
Background
The battery structure of the multipolar lug or the full lug is beneficial to improving the multiplying power performance of the battery, wherein the structure of the different-side distribution of the anode lug and the cathode lug becomes a preferable structure of the battery because the current is beneficial to uniform distribution. In the battery industry, the battery cell with positive and negative electrode lugs distributed at two ends and the battery shell composed of an upper and a lower transparent shells and an upper and a lower cover plates are generally adopted, so that a battery structure with two ends for collecting current is assembled. In order to fully accommodate the battery cell into the battery case, the height of the battery case needs to be larger than the length of the battery cell, the battery cell is often put into the case during the assembly process, one end of the battery cell is electrically connected with the cover plate pole, the other end of the battery cell is electrically connected with the cover plate pole, and finally the case is sealed with the cover plates at two ends. The assembly process is complex in operation and is difficult to operate due to the limitation of the shape space of the shell. Moreover, the sealing of the casing and the cover plate of the battery is mostly realized by welding the end part of the battery, a right-angle structure is formed at a welding position no matter side welding or top welding, and the right-angle structure formed by welding can lead the position to generate concentrated stress, influence the welding strength and lead the welding position to generate fatigue cracks in the long-term use process of the battery. In the prior art, a solution to increase the thickness of the cover plate is adopted in order to ensure the welding strength, which not only increases the unnecessary weight of the housing, but also wastes materials.
Disclosure of Invention
In view of the above problems, the present invention provides a three-section battery case, which includes a first end cover, a middle case and a second end cover, wherein the first end cover and the second end cover are both in a cylindrical structure with an end face and a side wall, and an integral cylindrical battery case or a square battery case can be formed by connecting the side wall of the first end cover with the middle case and connecting the side wall of the second end cover with the middle case. The battery shell is connected on the side wall of the battery shell, so that the defects that the connection is carried out at the stress concentration part and the welding part receives larger shearing force are overcome, and the connection strength is improved. In addition, the side walls of the first end cover and the second end cover have certain heights, so that the height of the middle shell can be reduced, the battery cell is easier to be put into the shell, and the battery cell has the advantages of being particularly more advantageous for a large-sized battery.
The technical scheme provided by the invention is as follows:
according to the invention, the battery shell comprises a first end cover, a middle shell and a second end cover, wherein the first end cover is a cylinder with a side wall and an end face, the middle shell is a cylinder with two open ends, the height of the middle shell is smaller than that of a battery cell so that lugs at two ends of the battery cell extend out of two ends of the middle shell respectively, the second end cover is a cylinder with a side wall and an end face, the side wall of the first end cover can be in sealing connection with one end of the middle shell, and the side wall of the second end cover can be in sealing connection with the other end of the middle shell, so that the whole battery shell is formed. The side wall of the first end cap may have a height of 10 to 100mm and the side wall of the second end cap may have a height of 10 to 100mm. Under the condition that the overall height of the battery shell is fixed, the height of the side wall of the end cover can be effectively reduced, so that the battery cell is easier to put into the middle shell, and the lugs at the two ends of the battery cell can extend out from the two ends of the middle shell under the condition that the battery cell is put into the middle shell, so that the follow-up operations such as processing or welding the lugs are facilitated. The connection of the side wall of the first end cover and one end of the middle shell and the connection of the side wall of the second end cover and the other end of the middle shell are all carried out on the side wall avoiding stress concentration at the corner, and the connection modes can be welding, compacting, clamping or bonding.
According to the invention, a structure and a connecting method for connecting an end cover with a middle shell by using a connecting bent edge are provided. The connecting bead may be provided in at least one of the following positions: an edge of a side wall of the first end cap, an edge of a side wall of the second end cap, an edge of one end of the middle housing, and an edge of the other end of the middle housing. The cross-sectional shape of the connecting bead is curved, such as semicircular, arcuate, wavy, dog-ear, or other curved line. The connecting bent edge can be processed by bending, rolling or bending, or the connecting bent edge can be integrally formed with the end cover or the middle shell. When the internal pressure of the battery shell is overlarge, the connecting bent edge deforms, so that the effect of buffering the internal pressure of the battery shell is achieved. In addition, the connecting flange can function as a limiting part, and particularly when the connecting flange is matched with a limiting ring sleeved on the battery cell, the battery cell can be prevented from moving axially in the shell. Preferably, the connecting bead is curved in the direction of the center of the battery housing (i.e. radially inward of the battery housing), which is particularly advantageous for welded connections, and the weld seam of the end cap and the middle housing can be located in the inwardly curved connecting bead, so that the weld seam is no higher than the surface of the battery housing, reducing wear at the welded site. When the end cover and the middle shell are both provided with connecting bent edges, the connecting bent edges of the first end cover and the second end cover can be respectively and hermetically connected with the connecting bent edges of the middle shell.
In one embodiment according to the invention, the edge portions of the connecting bead form a weld for welding, that is to say the free edge of the connecting bead serves as a weld for welding. Specifically, a first end cover connecting bent edge is arranged at the edge of the side wall of the first end cover, and the first end cover connecting bent edge extends continuously along the circumferential direction of the battery shell; the two ends of the middle shell are respectively provided with a first middle shell connecting bent edge and a second middle shell connecting bent edge, and the first middle shell connecting bent edge and the second middle shell connecting bent edge respectively extend continuously along the circumferential direction of the battery shell; and a second end cover connecting bent edge is arranged at the edge of the side wall of the second end cover, and the second end cover connecting bent edge extends continuously along the circumferential direction of the battery shell. The welding part of the first end cover connecting bent edge can be welded with the welding part of the first middle shell connecting bent edge in a sealing way, and the welding part of the second end cover connecting bent edge can be welded with the welding part of the second middle shell connecting bent edge in a sealing way. Several exemplary embodiments of the connecting bead will be listed below. Wherein the cross section of the connection crimp may include an arc-shaped curved portion and a straight portion connected to an end of the arc-shaped curved portion and extending in a radial direction of the battery case, the straight portion of the first end cap connection crimp is aligned with the straight portion of the first middle case connection crimp and can be connected by welding, the edge portion of the straight portion of the second end cap connection crimp is aligned with the edge portion of the straight portion of the second middle case connection crimp and can be connected by welding as a welding portion, that is, the straight portion of the end cap connection crimp is fitted to the straight portion of the middle case connection crimp, and the edge portion of the straight portion of the end cap connection crimp is welded with the edge portion of the straight portion of the middle case connection crimp (i.e., a welding portion). Or wherein the cross section of the connecting bead may be a semicircular curve, the edge portion of the semicircular curve of the first end cap connecting bead and the edge portion of the semicircular curve of the first middle housing connecting bead may be connected by welding as a welded portion, and the edge portion of the semicircular curve of the second end cap connecting bead and the edge portion of the semicircular curve of the second middle housing connecting bead may be connected by welding as a welded portion, that is, the edge portion of the semicircular connecting bead of the end cap and the edge portion of the semicircular connecting bead of the middle housing are tangent and attached, and the edge portion of the semicircular portion of the connecting bead of the end cap and the edge portion of the semicircular portion of the connecting bead of the middle housing (i.e., the welded portion) are welded together. Or wherein the cross section of the connection crimp may include a semicircular curved portion and a straight portion connected to an end of the semicircular curved portion and extending in the axial direction of the battery case, the straight portion of the first end cap connection crimp being aligned with the straight portion of the first middle case connection crimp and being capable of being connected by welding as a welding portion, the straight portion of the second end cap connection crimp being aligned with the straight portion of the second middle case connection crimp and being capable of being connected by welding as a welding portion, that is, the straight portion of the end cap connection crimp being opposite to the straight portion of the middle case connection crimp, and the straight portion of the end cap connection crimp and the straight portion of the middle case connection crimp or an edge portion of the straight portion (i.e., a welding portion) being capable of being connected together by welding.
Preferably, the maximum distance of the welded parts of the first end cap connection crimp, the first middle case connection crimp, the second end cap connection crimp, and the second middle case connection crimp from the central axis of the battery case is smaller than the radius of the battery case. That is, the portion of the connecting bead as the welding portion is retracted from the battery case toward the center of the battery so that the weld does not protrude outward from the battery case after the welding of the welding portion, thereby avoiding the abrasion of the weld and further ensuring the sealing effect of the battery.
In a further embodiment according to the invention, the edge portions of the connecting bead form a hold-down for being held down, that is to say the free edge of the connecting bead serves as a hold-down for being held down. Specifically, the edge portion of the connection crimp extends radially outward along the battery case to form a compression portion to be compressed, wherein the battery case further includes a crimp and a seal ring, the crimp is capable of compressing the compression portion of the connection crimp around the first end cap and the compression portion of the connection crimp around the first middle case in such a manner that the crimp is compressed by bending, the compression portion of the connection crimp around the first end cap, the seal ring between the compression portion of the connection crimp around the first middle case and the compression portion of the connection crimp around the second end cap, and the other crimp is capable of compressing the compression portion of the connection crimp around the second end cap, the compression portion of the connection crimp around the second middle case, and the seal ring between the compression portion of the connection crimp around the second end cap and the compression portion of the connection crimp around the second middle case in such a manner that the crimp is compressed by bending. The pressing edge can be strip-shaped, and the width of the pressing edge is larger than the sum of the heights of the two adjacent pressing parts, so that the two adjacent pressing parts can be wrapped and pressed. The material of the crimp may be a ductile metal of higher strength (e.g., stainless steel) or an electrolyte resistant thermoplastic (e.g., polypropylene). When utilizing the blank holder to compress tightly the connection, can conveniently realize dismantling and retrieving of battery through excision blank holder, the battery casing alright reuse after through the cleaning process, consequently be favorable to the easy disassembly recovery operation and the design of battery more.
Preferably, the maximum distance of the pressing portions of the first end cap connection crimp, the first middle case connection crimp, the second end cap connection crimp, and the second middle case connection crimp from the central axis of the battery case is smaller than the radius of the battery case. That is, the portion of the connecting crimp as the pressing portion is retracted from the battery case toward the battery center so that the crimp does not protrude outward from the battery case after the pressing portion is pressed by the crimp, thereby avoiding the wear of the crimp and further ensuring the sealing effect of the battery.
Preferably, the pressing edge is provided with a groove, and the thickness of the part of the pressing edge, where the groove is arranged, is smaller than the thickness of the part of the pressing edge, where the groove is not arranged. When the pressure in the battery shell is overlarge, the part of the pressing edge, which is provided with the groove, is firstly broken due to the thinner thickness of the part, so that the part can replace an explosion-proof valve to play an explosion-proof role.
As for the material of the battery case, the materials of the first end cap, the second end cap, and the middle case may be metallic materials such as stainless steel. In this case, it is necessary to draw the positive electrode post from the case and to ensure an insulating seal between the positive electrode post and the case, and to weld the positive electrode post and the positive electrode tab of the battery cell together, and similarly, it is necessary to draw the negative electrode post from the case and to ensure an insulating seal between the negative electrode post and the case, and to weld the negative electrode post and the negative electrode tab of the battery cell together. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, insulation between the first end cap and the middle housing and insulation between the second end cap and the middle housing may be provided, such that insulation between the first end cap and the second end cap is achieved, for example: the first end cover and the second end cover are made of metal materials, and the middle shell is made of insulating materials; alternatively, the materials of the first end cover, the second end cover and the middle shell are metal materials, the part of the first end cover adjacent to the middle shell and/or the part of the middle shell adjacent to the first end cover are coated by insulating materials, and the part of the second end cover adjacent to the middle shell and/or the part of the middle shell adjacent to the second end cover are coated by insulating materials; etc. The insulating material may be, for example, polypropylene, polyethylene, polytetrafluoroethylene, or the like. Therefore, the first end cover can be directly or indirectly electrically connected with the positive electrode lug of the battery cell, and the second end cover can be directly or indirectly electrically connected with the negative electrode lug of the battery cell. In addition, the step of electrically connecting the tab with the end cap to achieve insulating sealing between the post and the case by an additional insulating member may be omitted. Under the condition of insulation between the first end cover and the second end cover, the positive pole post and the negative pole post can be respectively integrated with the first end cover and the second end cover, or the positive pole post and the negative pole post can be connected to the end cover in a simple mode of threaded connection, adhesion, clamping connection and the like, so that assembly parts are reduced, and the battery assembly process is simpler and is convenient to operate.
The surface of the battery case may further include a convex portion and a concave portion. The protruding part of the shell can be a plurality of reinforcing ribs, a concave part is formed between every two adjacent reinforcing ribs in the plurality of reinforcing ribs, and the reinforcing ribs can play a role in reinforcing the strength of the shell; alternatively, the convex and concave portions are formed by bending a plate material for forming the battery case, in other words, portions similar to grooves and protrusions are formed on the surface of the battery case by bending the plate material; alternatively, the protruding portions and the recessed portions may be formed on the battery case by punching, stretching, molding, or the like. When a plurality of batteries are arranged side by side, the convex and concave portions of the battery case surface may form a fluid flow path between two adjacent battery cases, so that the heat dissipation may be enhanced.
The invention has the advantages that:
1) The battery shell structure is more convenient for the battery core to be put into the shell, and the battery cores distributed on different sides of the lugs can simultaneously process the electric connection process of the lugs at two ends and the end cover, so that the complicated operation of lug connection and the limitation of operation space in the prior art are avoided.
2) The connecting position of the battery shell avoids the right-angle position with weaker battery strength by combining the traditional battery shell and the cover plate, so that the strength of the connecting part is higher, and in addition, the cover plate does not need to be thickened for increasing the connecting strength, thereby saving materials and cost and improving the energy density of the battery.
