Technical Field
The present invention relates to an electrical device suitable for optical communication.
Background
Particularly in electrical devices comprising more than one component, it is often necessary to provide communication between these components. For example, in a coffee maker comprising a main body and a brewing chamber, it may be necessary to transmit the value sensed by a sensor inside the brewing chamber to a control unit on the main body. Similarly, it may be necessary to transmit commands from a control unit on the body to actuators on the cooking chamber. In the prior art, data communication may be achieved by mechanical contact such as slip rings, infrared beams or radio waves. Particularly in applications using infrared beams, since the receiver and the transmitter need to see each other, the receiver and the transmitter need to be placed such that they may be exposed to external factors. This in turn can cause water leakage when cleaning the cooking chamber and thus short circuits. For this reason, data communication is required so as not to be affected by external factors.
In the prior art, german patent application No. DE102010043858 discloses a hot beverage making device in which data about faults that may occur in the device are transmitted to an external device.
No document in the prior art discloses a solution in the present application.

An electrical device (1) suitable for optical communication essentially comprises: at least one first component (2) having at least one first component body (21) and at least one second component (3) having at least one second component body (31), wherein communication can take place between them. Each of the first (2) and second (3) components is adapted to accommodate at least one communication means (C) comprising at least one receiver, at least one transmitter or any combination thereof. Each body (21, 31) has at least one portion suitable for housing a communication member (C). The portion may be a housing manufactured integrally with the main body (21, 31) and a space inside the main body (21, 31). Thereby, the communication member (C) can be held in a fixed position inside the main body (21, 31). The inner part of the body (21, 31) where the communication member (C) is placed is insulated from external factors such as, in particular, air and moisture. Thus, components that require cleaning, such as the cooking chamber, have the ability to communicate optically.
The communication means (C) may be an assembly adapted to provide communication between the first component (2) and the second component (3), such as a light source and a light sensor. The communication means (C) may be any one or combination of light emitters or receivers including, but not limited to, infrared LEDs, visible LEDs, ultraviolet LEDs, infrared sensors, Light Dependent Resistors (LDRs), light sensors.
Communication between the first component (2) and the second component (3) is effected via data transmission between communication means (C) which these components (2, 3) have. In the case where the communication means (C) communicates via a visible light beam or an invisible light beam, the light beam emitted by the communication means (C) as a transmitter needs to be received by the communication means (C) as a receiver. In other words, the light transmission between the two communication members (C) should not be blocked by the main body (21, 31). To achieve this, each body (21, 31) has at least one communication zone (22, 32) adapted to at least partially pass electromagnetic waves corresponding to a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum radiated by the communication member (C). In other words, the communication area (22, 32) is adapted to at least partially pass at least infrared waves when communication by means of infrared light beams is intended.
In an embodiment of the invention, the body (21, 31) and the communication area (22, 32) are made of different materials. Since each portion of the main body (21, 31) other than the communication area (22, 32) has light transparency, the main body (21, 31) may be made of any desired material. Thereby, alternatives during the design of the electrical device (1) are not limited.
In an embodiment of the invention, the body (21, 31) and the communication area (22, 32) are made of different thicknesses. Since each portion of the main body (21, 31) other than the communication area (22, 32) has light transparency, the main body (21, 31) can be made of any thickness of material. Furthermore, the communication area (22, 32) may be manufactured such that it has a thickness smaller than the main body (21, 31), and therefore, the transparency of the communication area (22, 32) is larger than the rest of the main body (21, 31). In this embodiment, each of the bodies (21, 31) may be implemented to have a uniform surface structure, and thus the communication area (22, 32) may be hidden.
In an embodiment of the invention, the body (21, 31) and the communication area (22, 32) are made by different finishing techniques. Since each portion of the main body (21, 31) other than the communication area (22, 32) has light transparency, the main body (21, 31) can be processed with any desired finishing technique. For example, portions of the main body (21, 31) other than the communication portion (22, 32) may be ground and may be kept relatively smooth compared to the communication area (22, 32). Thereby, alternatives during the design of the electrical device (1) are not limited.
In embodiments of the invention, the communication areas (22, 32) have a C or O shape to enable light transmission in a wider area. Thereby, communication can be performed even if the first member (2) and the second member (3) rotate relative to each other.
The communication area (22, 32) may be placed at any location on the body (21, 31) where communication may be obtained between the first part (2) and the second part (3) during use of the electrical device (1) of the invention.
In an embodiment of the invention, the electrical device (1) of the invention may comprise one first part (2) and a plurality of second parts (3). For example, in a configuration with the second component (3) as a cooking chamber, different data can be transmitted to different cooking chambers. This enables, for example, coffee to be brewed in one brewing chamber while tea is being brewed in another brewing chamber.

Claims (7)

1. An electrical device (1) adapted for optical communication, comprising: at least one first component (2), said at least one first component (2) having at least one first component body (22) and being characterized by at least one first component communication region (22) adapted to at least partially pass electromagnetic waves corresponding to a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum radiated by a communication member (C); at least one second component (3) having at least one second component body (31) and at least one second component communication region (32) adapted to at least partially pass electromagnetic waves corresponding to a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum radiated by the communication means (C).
2. The electrical device (1) according to claim 1, comprising a communication area (22, 32) made of a different material than the body (21, 31).
3. The electrical device (1) according to claim 1, comprising a communication area (22, 32) having a different thickness than the body (21, 31).
4. The electrical device (1) according to claim 1, comprising a communication area (22, 32) manufactured with a different finishing technique than the body (21, 31).
5. The electrical device (1) according to claim 1, comprising a communication area (22, 32) having the shape of C or O.
6. The electrical device (1) according to claim 1, wherein the communication area (21, 31) is placed at any location on the body (21, 31) where communication can be obtained between the first part (2) and the second part (3) during use of the electrical device (1) of the invention.
7. The electrical device of claim 1, wherein the portion of the body (21, 31) having the communication member (C) is insulated from external factors such as air and moisture.
