The invention provides a method and a system for a conference terminal to conveniently and automatically open a meeting, wherein the method comprises the following steps: the video conference terminal is registered to the multipoint control unit MCU; the MCU receives a registration request of the video conference terminal and stores information and the state of the video conference terminal; meanwhile, the MCU sends the history registration information to the video conference terminal; the video conference terminal selects other required video conference terminals for group meeting according to the received historical registration information to generate group meeting information; the video conference terminal sends the conference information to the MCU, the MCU replaces the conference, and the MCU feeds back the conference state to the video conference terminal after the conference is finished. The beneficial effects of the invention are: the technical scheme provided by the invention provides a convenient method for independently organizing and developing a conference at the video conference terminal side, namely, the selection of conference members and the starting operation of the conference are provided for a user on a display interface of a conference terminal, so that the user can independently group the conference at the video conference terminal.
