Description

Flexible display device
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a display device, and more particularly, to a flexible display device.
Background
With the development of flexible materials (e.g., substrate materials, packaging materials, conductive materials or insulating materials) and the advancement of process technologies, bendable/foldable displays are no longer the only imagination in science fiction movies. For example, curved displays (flexible displays), flexible displays (flexible displays) or foldable displays (foldable displays) are the best embodiments for manufacturers to design and develop such flexible displays. The flexible display is the focus of the related manufacturers' development while considering the technical maturity and the application breadth. In order to facilitate carrying or space recycling, a winding drum and a flexible display panel are generally disposed on the flexible display, and the flexible display panel can be wound into the winding drum after being used. However, such designs do not meet the needs of large-size displays and diversified operations.
Disclosure of Invention
The invention provides a flexible display device with multi-screen display, which has good operation flexibility and portability.
The invention provides a flexible display device, which comprises a first reel, a second reel, a first display panel and a second display panel. The second winding drum is arranged in the first winding drum in a sliding mode along the moving axis. The first display panel is connected to the first reel. The first display panel is adapted to be unwound from or wound into the first roll in a direction perpendicular to the movement axis. The second display panel is connected to the second reel. When the second reel is moved out of the first reel along the moving axis, the second display panel is suitable for being unwound from or wound into the second reel along a direction perpendicular to the moving axis.
In view of the above, in the flexible display device according to an embodiment of the invention, the first reel and the second reel slide relatively on a moving axis, so that the second reel extends from or retracts into the first reel, which is helpful for improving the portability of the flexible display device. On the other hand, the first display panel reelable on the first reel and the second display panel reelable on the second reel are respectively unwound from the first reel and the second reel along the direction perpendicular to the moving axis, so that the effect of large-size display or multi-screen display can be achieved, and the operation elasticity and the portability of the flexible display device are improved.
In order to make the aforementioned and other features and advantages of the invention more comprehensible, embodiments accompanied with figures are described in detail below.

Detailed Description
As used herein, "about," "approximately," "essentially," or "substantially" includes the average of the stated value and a specified value within an acceptable range of deviation from the stated value, as determined by one of ordinary skill in the art, given the particular number of measurements in question and the errors associated with the measurements (i.e., the limitations of the measurement system). For example, "about" can mean within one or more standard deviations of the stated values, or, for example, ± 30%, ± 20%, ± 15%, ± 10%, ± 5%. Further, as used herein, "about", "approximately", "essentially", or "substantially" may be selected based on the measured property, cleavage property, or other property to select a more acceptable range of deviation or standard deviation, and not one standard deviation may apply to all properties.
In the drawings, the thickness of layers, films, panels, regions, etc. have been exaggerated for clarity. It will be understood that when an element such as a layer, film, region, or substrate is referred to as being "on" or "connected to" another element, it can be directly on or connected to the other element or intervening elements may also be present. In contrast, when an element is referred to as being "directly on" or "directly connected" to another element, there are no intervening elements present. As used herein, "connected" may refer to physical and/or electrical connections. Furthermore, an "electrical connection" may be the presence of other elements between the two elements.
Furthermore, relative terms such as "lower" or "bottom" and "upper" or "top" may be used herein to describe one element's relationship to another element, as illustrated. It will be understood that relative terms are intended to encompass different orientations of the device in addition to the orientation depicted in the figures. For example, if the device in one of the figures is turned over, elements described as being on the "lower" side of other elements would then be oriented on "upper" sides of the other elements. Thus, the exemplary term "lower" can include both an orientation of "lower" and "upper," depending on the particular orientation of the figure. Similarly, if the device in one of the figures is turned over, elements described as "below" or "beneath" other elements would then be oriented "above" the other elements. Thus, the exemplary terms "above" or "below" may include both an orientation of above and below.
Reference will now be made in detail to exemplary embodiments of the invention, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. Wherever possible, the same reference numbers will be used throughout the drawings and the description to refer to the same or like parts.
Fig. 1 is a schematic top view of a flexible display device according to a first embodiment of the invention. Fig. 2 is a schematic top view of the flexible display device of fig. 1. Fig. 3A to 3C are schematic top views illustrating a folding process of the flexible display device of fig. 1. It should be noted that, for the sake of clarity, fig. 2 omits the illustration of the side wall 110w, the side wall 120w and the second knob 132 of fig. 1. Referring to fig. 1 and 2, the flexible display device 10 includes a first reel 110, a second reel 120, a first display panel 210 and a second display panel 220. The second spool 120 is slidably connected to the first spool 110, and the second spool 120 can slide along the moving axis MA1 (shown in fig. 3B) relative to the first spool 110 to extend from or retract into the first spool 110. That is, the first reel 110 and the second reel 120 are slidably connected to each other, so that the two reels are in a retractable structure.
The first display panel 210 is connected to the first reel 110 and adapted to be rolled into the first reel 110. The second display panel 220 is connected to the second winding drum 120 and is adapted to be wound into the second winding drum 120. In the present embodiment, the display panels (i.e., the first display panel 210 and the second display panel 220) are, for example, Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) display panels, but the invention is not limited thereto. In other embodiments, the Display panel may also be a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel, a Micro Light Emitting Diode (Micro LED) panel, a sub-millimeter Light Emitting Diode (Mini LED) panel, or an Electrophoretic Display (EPD) panel. It should be noted that the number of the display panels in the embodiment is exemplarily illustrated by two, which does not mean that the invention is limited thereto. In other embodiments, the number of display panels can be adjusted according to actual requirements (such as the number of users and the display size).
In particular, the flexible display device 10 shown in fig. 1 and 2 is in an unfolded state for displaying operation. For example, the first display panel 210 has a first display surface 210d, and the second display panel 220 has a second display surface 220 d. In the present embodiment, the first display panel 210 and the second display panel 220 are both extended from the same side of the roll, the first display surface 210d and the second display surface 220d both face the same side of the first roll 110 (or the second roll 120), and the first display panel 210 and the second display panel 220 are used for displaying a tiled image. That is, the first display panel 210 can display a portion of the stitched image, and the second display panel 220 can display another portion of the stitched image. However, the present invention is not limited thereto, and according to other embodiments, the first display surface 210d of the first display panel 210 and the second display surface 220d of the second display panel 220 may also face to opposite sides of the reel respectively, and the first display panel 210 and the second display panel 220 display different image frames respectively for different users to watch.
From another perspective, the first display panel 210 and the second display panel 220 of the flexible display device 10 of the present embodiment can also be respectively unfolded at two opposite sides of the roll, so that the first display surface 210d and the second display surface 220d respectively face the two opposite sides of the roll for different users to view. That is, the diversified operation modes of the flexible display device 10 can meet the requirements of different use situations, which is helpful to improve the operation flexibility of the flexible display device 10.
Further, the first reel 110 includes a first housing 111 and a first scroll bar 112, the first scroll bar 112 is disposed in the first housing 111, and the first display panel 210 is adapted to be wound between the first housing 111 and the first scroll bar 112. The second reel 120, which is slidably disposed in the first scroll bar 112, includes a second housing 121 and a second scroll bar 122. The second scroll bar 122 is disposed in the second casing 121, and the second display panel 220 is adapted to be rolled between the second casing 121 and the second scroll bar 122. More specifically, the first display panel 210 has a first side 210a and a second side 210b opposite to each other, wherein the first side 210a is connected to the first scroll bar 112, and the second side 210b is adapted to protrude from the first opening 111a of the first housing 111 to unfold the first display panel 210. Similarly, the second display panel 220 has a third side 220a and a fourth side 220b opposite to each other, wherein the third side 220a is connected to the second scroll bar 122, and the fourth side 220b is adapted to extend from the second opening 121a of the second housing 121 to unfold the second display panel 220.
The following describes an exemplary folding process of the flexible display device 10. Referring to fig. 1, fig. 2 and fig. 3A, first, the first scroll bar 112 is rotated relative to the first housing 111 along a first rotation axis RA1 to roll the first display panel 210 into the first roll 110 along a direction (e.g., a direction D1) perpendicular to the moving axis MA 1; similarly, the second scroll bar 122 is rotated relative to the second housing 121 about the second rotation axis RA2 to roll the second display panel 220 into the second roll 120 along a direction (e.g., the direction D1) perpendicular to the moving axis MA 1.
Conversely, the first scroll bar 112 can be rotated reversely relative to the first housing 111 along the first rotation axis RA1 to unwind the first display panel 210 from the first roll 110 along a direction perpendicular to the moving axis MA1 (e.g., the direction opposite to the direction D1); similarly, the second scroll bar 122 can be rotated reversely relative to the second housing 121 about the second rotation axis RA2 to drive the second display panel 220 to unwind from the second roll 120 along a direction perpendicular to the moving axis MA1 (e.g., a direction opposite to the direction D1).
In the present embodiment, the flexible display device 10 may further optionally include a first knob 131 and a second knob 132. The first knob 131 is disposed on the first end surface 111e of the first housing 111, and the second knob 132 is disposed on the second end surface 121e of the second housing 121 exposed by the first housing 111. Further, the first knob 131 is connected to the first scroll bar 112 and configured to drive the first scroll bar 112 to rotate so as to roll up or unroll the first display panel 210. The second knob 132 is connected to the second scroll bar 122 and configured to drive the second scroll bar 122 to rotate so as to roll up or unroll the second display panel 220. In other words, in the present embodiment, the winding or unwinding of the display panel can be manually performed by the knob, but the present invention is not limited thereto. In other embodiments, the rolling or unrolling of the display panel may be achieved electrically.
Since the first knob 131 and the second knob 132 are respectively disposed on two opposite sides of the flexible display device 10, the two knobs can rotate along different rotation directions (for example, the rotation direction RD1 and the rotation direction RD2) during the process of rolling or unrolling the two display panels, which is helpful for improving the smoothness of a single person operating, but the invention is not limited thereto. On the other hand, the first rotation axis RA1 defined by the first scroll bar 112 and the second rotation axis RA2 defined by the second scroll bar 122 may be coaxial, but the invention is not limited thereto. In other embodiments, the first axis of rotation RA1 of the first roller 112 can be offset from the second axis of rotation RA2 of the second roller 122 depending on the relative disposition of the two rollers.
Next, referring to fig. 3B and 3C, after the first display panel 210 and the second display panel 220 are respectively wound into the first reel 110 and the second reel 120, the second reel 120 is slid along the moving axis MA1 in the direction D2 and is received into the first reel 110. In this way, the folding of the flexible display device 10 is completed. It should be understood that, during the unwinding process of the flexible display device 10, the user may also slide the second roll 120 along the moving axis MA1 to extend from the first roll 110 in the direction opposite to the direction D2, so as to facilitate the unwinding of the second display panel 220 from the second roll 120.
It should be noted that the portability of the flexible display device 10 can be effectively improved by sliding the first reel 110 and the second reel 120 relative to each other on the moving axis MA1 so that the second reel 120 can be retracted into the first reel 110. On the other hand, when the second roll 120 is received in the first roll 110, the user can still unwind the first display panel 210 from the first roll 110. That is, the first display panel 210 can operate independently of the second display panel 220, which is helpful for increasing the operation flexibility of the flexible display device 10.
The present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to other embodiments, wherein like components are denoted by like reference numerals, and descriptions of the same technical contents are omitted, and detailed descriptions thereof are omitted.
Fig. 4 is a schematic top view illustrating a flexible display device according to a second embodiment of the invention. Fig. 5 is a side view of a partial area of the flexible display device of fig. 4. Fig. 6A and 6B are schematic top views illustrating a splicing process of the flexible display device of fig. 4.
Referring to fig. 4 and 5, the main differences between the flexible display device 11 of the present embodiment and the flexible display device 10 of fig. 1 are: the second display panel has a different configuration. In the present embodiment, the second display panel 220A has a gap 221, and the first reel 110 is adapted to extend into the gap 221. Specifically, when the flexible display device 11 is in the unfolded state, the notch 221 is disposed on a side of the second display panel 220A facing the first display panel 210. Therefore, after the second display panel 220A is unwound from the second reel 120, the second reel 120 can move toward the first reel 110 to drive the second display panel 220A to approach the first display panel 210 (as shown in fig. 6A), so that the second display panel 220A is overlapped on the first display panel 210 (as shown in fig. 6B). That is, the second display panel 220A may partially overlap the first display panel 210. Therefore, the method is beneficial to the image continuity of the two display panels when the two display panels display a spliced picture.
Fig. 7 is a schematic top view illustrating a flexible display device according to a third embodiment of the invention. Referring to fig. 7, the main differences between the flexible display device 12 of the present embodiment and the flexible display device 10 of fig. 1 are: the number of display panels. In the present embodiment, the flexible display device 12 further includes a third display panel 230. That is, the number of the display panels of the flexible display device 12 is three. The third display panel 230 is connected to the first roll 110 and is adapted to be rolled into the first roll 110. Specifically, the third display panel 230 and the first display panel 210 can be simultaneously rolled in the first roll 110 or respectively rolled out from two opposite sides of the first roll 110.
For example, the first display surface 210d of the first display panel 210 and the third display surface 230d of the third display panel 230 may face the same side of the reel (i.e., the user UR1 side), and the second display surface 220d of the second display panel 220 may face the other side of the reel (i.e., the user UR2 side). That is, two users (e.g., user UR1 and user UR2) can watch the second display surface 220d opposite to the first display surface 210d and the third display surface 230 d. However, the invention is not limited thereto, and according to other embodiments, the second display panel 220 can be folded to the other side of the roll, so that the second display surface 220d faces the same side of the roll as the first display surface 210d (or the third display surface 230d) for a single user (e.g. the user UR1) to view.
On the other hand, the first display panel 210 and the third display panel 230 can be used to display a tiled image. That is, the first display surface 210d and the third display surface 230d can constitute a tiled display surface, so as to present a larger display screen for the user UR1 to watch. However, the present invention is not limited thereto, and in another operation mode, the operation of the first display panel 210 may also be independent of the operation of the third display panel 230 to provide a display effect of multiple screens of the user.
Fig. 8 is a schematic top view of a partial area of a flexible display device according to a fourth embodiment of the invention. Fig. 9A and 9B are schematic top views illustrating an expansion flow of the flexible display device of fig. 8. It should be noted that, for the sake of clarity, fig. 8 omits the illustration of the second knob 132A of fig. 9A. Referring to fig. 8, the main differences between the flexible display device 13 of the present embodiment and the flexible display device 10 of fig. 1 are: the number of component compositions and display panels is different. In this embodiment, the flexible display device 13 further includes a guiding element 150, and the second housing 121A of the second drum 120A further has a third opening 121b adjacent to the second opening 121A, and the guiding element 150 is adapted to pass through the third opening 121b and extend out of the second drum 120A.
It is to be noted that, the number of the third openings 121b (or the guide 150) of the present embodiment is exemplarily illustrated as two, and the two third openings 121b are respectively located at two opposite sides of the second opening 121 a. However, the present invention is not limited thereto, and according to other embodiments, the number of the third openings 121b (or the guides 150) may also be adjusted to one depending on the number (e.g., one) of the display panels. Further, the second rolling bar 122A of the second winding drum 120A has a slot 122g corresponding to the third opening 121b of the second housing 121A, and the guide 150 is slidably disposed in the slot 122g of the second rolling bar 122A along the moving axis MA 2.
In this embodiment, the flexible display device 13 may further optionally include a connecting rod 151 and a protruding rod 152. The connecting rod 151 is connected between the two guides 150. The protruding rod 152 is disposed on the connecting rod 151 and configured to drive the guide 150 to move along the moving axis MA2 to extend out of the third opening 121b of the second housing 121A. That is, the guide 150 of the present embodiment can be manually extended from the second winding drum 120A through the above configuration relationship, but the invention is not limited thereto. In other embodiments, the two guides 150 can also be electrically extended from the second reel, and the two guides 150 can be actuated independently.
Further, the second knob 132A has a slot 132g, and the protruding rod 152 protrudes from the slot 132g of the second knob 132A (i.e., the protruding rod 152 is disposed through the second knob 132A) to facilitate the user to operate the guide 150. On the other hand, in the present embodiment, the flexible display device 13 further includes a fourth display panel 240. The fourth display panel 240 is connected to the second drum 120A (or the second scroll bar 122A), and the fourth display panel 240 and the second display panel 220 are suitable for being rolled into the second drum 120A together or being respectively rolled out on two opposite sides of the second drum 120A, as shown in fig. 9A. The operation of the guide 150 will be exemplarily described below.
Referring to fig. 9A and 9B, after the first display panel 210 and the third display panel 230 are unfolded at two opposite sides of the first drum 110 and the second display panel 220 and the fourth display panel 240 are unfolded at two opposite sides of the second drum 120A, the protruding rod 152 is pulled in the direction D3 to drive the guiding element 150 to extend out from the second drum 120A along the moving axis MA 2. At this time, the bending position of the second display panel 220 can be closed to the bending position of the first display panel 210 by the interference relationship between the second display panel 220 and the adjacent guide 150; similarly, the bent portion of the fourth display panel 240 is moved closer to the bent portion of the third display panel 230 by the interference relationship between the fourth display panel 240 and the adjacent guide 150. That is, the distance between the first display surface 210d and the second display surface 220d (or the distance between the third display surface 230d and the fourth display surface 240d) in the normal direction of the display surface (e.g., the first display surface 210d) can be further shortened.
Furthermore, in the present embodiment, the end surface 150s of the guiding element 150 may be flush with the first opening 111a of the first casing 111, so that the first display surface 210d is substantially aligned with the second display surface 220d (or the third display surface 230d is substantially aligned with the fourth display surface 240 d). That is, the four display surfaces of the flexible display device 13 can be coplanar in the unfolded state, which is helpful to improve the display quality of the flexible display device 13.
In summary, in the flexible display device according to an embodiment of the invention, the first reel and the second reel relatively slide on a moving axis, so that the second reel extends from or retracts into the first reel, which is helpful for improving the portability of the flexible display device.
The present invention is capable of other embodiments, and various changes and modifications may be made by one skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
