Abstract
A packaged garment includes a garment and a sealed bag. The garment has a torso portion, sleeve portions connected to the torso portion, and leg portions connected to the torso portion. The garment has an outer surface and an inner surface opposite the outer surface. The sealed bag contains the garment, the sleeve portion is folded over the torso portion, a portion of the sleeve portion is folded at least once under the sleeve portion and between the sleeve portion and the torso portion, and the leg portion is folded over the torso portion. The garment is operated such that the inner surface of the torso portion faces outward and the torso portion forms an interior space that houses the sleeve portions and the leg portions.
Description
Technical Field
The present invention relates to garments. In particular, the present invention relates to garment packaging that prevents contamination during the wearing of the garment.
Background
There is a need in certain situations for contamination free garments, such as garments used in clean rooms and sterilization operations. Conventional clean garments are folded and packaged in bags. It is then irradiated and delivered to a clean room. The bag prevents the garment from becoming contaminated prior to use. Folding the garment with its outer surface facing outward, the outer surface is exposed and can easily become contaminated if the hands or body of the person wearing the garment touch the outer surface. Also, if the garment contacts the floor or wall during the wearing process, the outer surface can become contaminated.
In order to wear a garment packaged in a conventional manner, the bag must be opened and the user must look for the exposed, interior surface of the garment. The user must then carefully grasp the inner surface so as not to touch (and thereby contaminate) the outer surface. This is achieved by grabbing the garment at the neck portion where a small amount of the inner surface is typically exposed. The user must then carefully manipulate the conventional clean garment to evert it inside out by slowly folding the garment down until the user's legs and arms can be inserted.
Because the wearing of conventional clean garments requires a significant amount of manipulation while being worn, conventional clean garments are often contaminated during the wearing process. Furthermore, in order to avoid contamination during the wearing process, the wearer must be trained specifically in terms of the correct method of wearing the garment.
Disclosure of Invention
Accordingly, it is an aspect of the present invention to provide a packaged clean garment that facilitates the wearing and use of the clean garment.
One embodiment of the present invention provides a packaged garment. The packaged garment includes a torso portion, sleeve portions coupled to the torso portion, and leg portions coupled to the torso portion. The garment has an outer surface and an inner surface opposite the outer surface. The packaged garment also includes a sealing pocket that receives the garment, the sleeve portion is folded over the torso portion, a portion of the sleeve portion is folded at least once under the sleeve portion and between the sleeve portion and the torso portion, and the leg portion is folded over the torso portion. The folded garment is manipulated such that the inner surface of the torso portion faces outward and the torso portion forms an interior space that houses the sleeve portion and the leg portions.
Another embodiment of the present invention provides a method of making a packaged garment. The packaged garment has an outer surface, an inner surface opposite the outer surface, a torso portion, two sleeve portions connected to the torso portion at respective arm accesses, and two leg portions connected to the torso portion at respective leg accesses. The manufacturing method includes the steps of; folding the two sleeve portions onto the torso portion; folding a portion of each of the two sleeve portions at least once under the sleeve portion and between the sleeve portion and the torso portion; folding the two leg portions onto the torso portion; and manipulating the folded garment such that the inner surface of the torso portion faces outward while the two sleeve portions and the two leg portions are located inward.
Yet another embodiment of the present invention provides a method of making a packaged clean garment. The garment has an outer surface, an inner surface opposite the outer surface, a torso portion with an opening, sleeve portions connected to the torso portion at respective arm accesses, and leg portions connected to the torso portion at respective leg accesses. The manufacturing method comprises the following steps: folding the sleeve portion onto the torso portion; folding a portion of the sleeve portion at least once under the sleeve portion and between the sleeve portion and the torso portion; folding the leg portions over the sleeve portions onto the torso portion; manipulating the opening of the torso portion over the folded sleeve and leg portions such that the inner surface of the torso portion faces outward and the outer surfaces of the sleeve and leg portions face outward within the torso portion; fully extending the leg portions within the torso portion; and arranging the arm access opening and the leg access opening to be substantially located at an outer peripheral edge of the folded garment.
Claims (5)
1. A packaged garment, comprising:
a clean room coverall having a torso portion with an outer surface and an inner surface opposite the outer surface, sleeve portions coupled to the torso portion with an inlet for receiving a user's arms, and leg portions coupled to the torso portion with an inlet for receiving a user's legs;
a sealed pocket containing a folded garment, the folded garment being a clean room coveralls, the sleeve portions and the leg portions being folded over the torso portion, at least a portion of the torso portion being folded around the sleeve portions and the leg portions such that an inner surface of the folded portion of the torso portion faces outward, thereby forming an interior space within the torso portion, the interior space enclosing the sleeve portions and the leg portions, an entrance of the sleeve portions and an entrance of the leg portions being accessible and unobstructed at peripheral edges of the interior space.
2. The packaged garment of claim 1, wherein the leg portion is folded onto the torso portion only one time.
3. The packaged garment of claim 1, wherein the garment has a longitudinal axis and each of the sleeve portions has a longitudinal axis;
folding the sleeve portions such that a longitudinal axis of each of the sleeve portions is substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the garment.
4. The packaged garment of claim 3, wherein each of the leg portions has a longitudinal axis;
folding the leg portions over the arm portions such that the longitudinal axis of each of the leg portions is substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the garment.
5. The packaged garment of claim 3, wherein the entrance of the sleeve portion is accessible at the peripheral edge, the peripheral edge being folded toward a central portion of the garment;
the entrance of the leg is accessible at the peripheral edge which is folded towards the collar so that the collar portion remains projecting from the garment while the garment is sealed in the bag.
