A platable high-specific-gravity plastic comprises cerium oxide and at least one of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) and high-rigidity nylon (MXD6), wherein the polyphenylene sulfide and the high-rigidity nylon can enable objects made of the high-specific-gravity plastic to be platable, a metal layer can be plated to enable the objects to have metal luster, and the polyphenylene sulfide can enable the objects to have crispness like metal collision when the objects collide; the cerium oxide can increase the specific gravity of the high specific gravity plastic, and ensure that articles made of the high specific gravity plastic have the characteristic of hard texture, have the advantages of folding resistance, scraping resistance and low water absorption, thereby not only increasing the application range of the high specific gravity plastic product, but also improving the value of the high specific gravity plastic product.

The invention has the advantages that the polyphenylene sulfide and the high-rigidity nylon enable objects made of high-specific-gravity plastics to have electroplatable property, the metal layer can be electroplated to enable the objects to have metal luster, and the polyphenylene sulfide enables the objects to have crisp sound like metal collision when the objects collide; the cerium oxide can increase the specific gravity of the high specific gravity plastic, and the articles made of the high specific gravity plastic have the characteristic of hard texture and the advantages of folding resistance and scraping resistance, thereby not only increasing the application range of the high specific gravity plastic products, but also improving the value of the high specific gravity plastic products.
Detailed Description
In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the platable high specific gravity plastic comprises cerium oxide (CeO2), and at least one of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) and high rigidity nylon (MXD6), wherein the cerium oxide has an average particle size of 0.2 to 40 μm, but not limited thereto. Cerium oxide and at least one of polyphenylene sulfide and high-rigidity nylon (MXD6) are stirred and mixed by a mixer in advance, and then the mixture is put into an injection molding machine, so that the high-specific gravity plastic is injected into a mold to form a specific shape. In addition, since polyphenylene sulfide is off-white, the colorant can be mixed with polyphenylene sulfide and cerium oxide before injection molding to produce articles of different colors.
When an article made of polyphenylene sulfide (or high-rigidity nylon) and cerium oxide are used as plastic raw materials and collided, the article made of the polyphenylene sulfide (or high-rigidity nylon) can generate crisp sound when metal collides, and the cerium oxide belongs to a harder material, so that the article can resonate with the polyphenylene sulfide (or high-rigidity nylon) to strengthen the crisp sound.
In addition, due to the material characteristics of polyphenylene sulfide and high-rigidity nylon, articles manufactured by the polyphenylene sulfide and the high-rigidity nylon have electroplatability. The article is electroplated to form a metal layer (such as aluminum layer) on its surface, so that the article has metallic luster and appearance almost the same as that of metal product, thereby achieving the effect of improving the value in consumers.
Cerium oxide having a large molecular weight can increase the specific gravity of plastic, so that the high specific gravity plastic has a heavier weight and a higher texture than general plastic, and can provide a preferable supporting force for a preferable scratch resistance, thereby being applied in a wider range. Taking the support frame as an example but not limited to this, the support frame made of plastic in the prior art can only be used for light objects, such as: mobile phones, stationery, etc., while large and heavy objects, such as: when the television is placed on the existing plastic support frame, the problem of insufficient support force exists, the center of gravity of the support frame and the television is higher due to the fact that the plastic support frame is too light, stability is affected, and the television is prone to toppling due to slight shaking. The support frame made of the high-specific gravity plastic has the advantages that the support force is preferable, and the weight is heavier (compared with the support frame made of the existing plastic in the case of the same volume), so that the center of gravity of objects such as a television and the like and the whole support frame can move towards the support frame to be close to the ground, and the effect of improving the whole stability is achieved.
All articles which can be produced by injection molding can be made of platable high specific gravity plastic. In addition, the platable high specific gravity plastic product can replace common plastic products, has the characteristics of hard texture, difficult stress deformation and large specific gravity, and can be used for manufacturing common plastic products in the fields which are not used, such as bearings and even musical instruments, for example: ocarina, clarinet, etc., and the variety is not listed.
Further, sanitary equipment (e.g., shower head) is used as another example. In order to have the characteristics of texture and crashworthiness, general sanitary equipment is mostly made of metal materials, however, the parts of the sanitary equipment have complex structure and many parts, and if made of metal materials, complex processing steps are required, including: cutting, grinding, polishing and the like, and along with the increase of the complexity of the structure of the part, the processing difficulty is increased, so that the production cost is greatly increased, and the processing time course is also prolonged.
If the bathroom equipment is made of the high-specific-gravity plastic, once the mold is made, the injection molding technology can be used for mass and quick production without additional processing steps; even if the structure of the part is complex, the technical difficulty to be overcome by the injection molding (compared with metal processing) is simpler.
The polyphenylene sulfide and the high-rigidity nylon also have the characteristics of no moisture absorption and low moisture absorption respectively, so that the high-specific-gravity plastic can be made into a rotor of the rear-view mirror, and the rotor cannot expand due to water absorption, so that the rear-view mirror has a longer service life; in addition, high rigidity nylon has an advantage of low thermal expansion coefficient, and thus objects made of high specific gravity plastics including high rigidity nylon, such as: the three-way pipeline of the hot water kettle, the water heater and the like is suitable for high-temperature environment and is not easy to deform, and the size has stability.
The platable high-specific-gravity plastic can be used for manufacturing objects with large specific gravity, heavy weight and hard texture, has the appearance of metal texture, has crisp sound when metal collides even in collision, and can almost replace metal products. In addition, the article made of the electroplatable high-specific gravity plastic has the advantages of being fast and capable of being produced in large quantities, and compared with metal processing, the article made of the electroplatable high-specific gravity plastic is superior and inexhaustible.
The specific gravity of the electroplatable high-specific gravity plastic is increased by cerium oxide, in other words, the higher the weight proportion of the cerium oxide in the plastic is, the heavier the specific gravity of the plastic is. The specific gravity of the plastic can be adjusted by adjusting the ratio of polyphenylene sulfide (or high-rigidity nylon) to cerium oxide during production and manufacturing.

Since cerium oxide is expensive, any one of 5-10% zinc oxide (ZnO) and 5-10% barium sulfate (BaSO4) or both of them can be added to make the plastic have the characteristic of high specific gravity and reduce the cost.

7. The platable high gravity plastic according to claim 1, wherein said polyphenylene sulfide is present in an amount of 20% to 40% by weight of said platable high gravity plastic.
8. The platable high specific gravity plastic according to claim 2, wherein the high specific gravity plastic has a tensile strength of 700 to 857kg/cm as measured according to ASTM D6382
9. The platable high gravity plastic according to claim 3, wherein the high gravity plastic has an elongation of 0.8-3% as measured according to ASTM D640.
10. The platable high gravity plastic according to claim 5, wherein the high gravity plastic has a flexural modulus of 51000-16950 kg/cm as measured according to ASTM D7902
11. The platable high specific gravity plastic according to claim 1, wherein the cerium oxide has an average particle size of 0.2 to 40 μm.
12. The platable high specific gravity plastic of claim 1, comprising a metal plating layer forming the surface thereof.
