Detailed Description
Example embodiments will now be described more fully with reference to the accompanying drawings. Example embodiments may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather, these embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the concept of example embodiments to those skilled in the art. The same reference numerals in the drawings denote the same or similar structures, and thus their detailed description will be omitted.
The conventional display panel is provided with a frame at the edge part, only the middle AA area can display pictures, and the position covered by the frame does not emit light and is used as a peripheral wiring area of the display panel. In the related art, in order to increase the display area and realize the borderless display, the light of the central display region is scattered to the frame portion by providing a structure such as a prism, so that the light can be emitted. Although the borderless display is realized, the light is dispersed, the light intensity scattered to the frame part is not enough, the displayed picture quality is low, and the light of the central display area is also dispersed partially, so the picture quality of the central display area is also affected.
The embodiment of the invention provides a double-sided display panel, which utilizes a display area on one side to compensate a display area on the other side, and realizes the frameless display effect of at least one side. The display panel may be a liquid crystal display panel or an organic electroluminescent display panel. Hereinafter, a liquid crystal display panel will be described as an example.
As shown in fig. 1, the double-sided display panel of the present embodiment includes a first display panel 1 and a second display panel 2 which are disposed to face away from each other. The first display panel 1 has a first central display region 91 and a transparent first edge display region 92 surrounding the first central display region 91; the second display panel 2 has a second central display area 93 and a second edge display area 94 surrounding the second central display area 93, and the projection of the second central display area 93 and the second edge display area 94 on the plane of the first display panel 1 is located within the first central display area 91. The display panel further includes an optical module 3 for transmitting the light of the second edge display region 94 to the first edge display region 92, so that the first edge display region 92 and the first central display region 91 jointly display a first image.
Referring to fig. 1, the first display panel 1 is used for displaying a first image, a first central display area 91 of the first display panel corresponds to a conventional central display area and can normally emit light under the control of the control unit, and a first edge display area 92 of the first display panel corresponds to an area where a conventional frame is located and does not automatically emit light, and passively emits light reflected by a second edge display area 94. The second central display area 93 of the second display panel 2 is a conventional display area for displaying a second picture, and can emit light normally under the control of the control unit; the second edge display region 94 is also a normal display region that can normally emit light under the control of the control unit. Since the light emitted from the second edge display region 94 cannot be transmitted into the first edge display region 92 from the inside thereof, but only transmitted after the light path is changed from the outside, the light transmission can be realized with the assistance of the optical module 3, and all the light emitted from the second edge display region 94 is transmitted to the first edge display region 92 by using the optical module 3, so that the first edge display region 92 and the first central display region 91 synchronously display the first picture, and thus the first display panel 1 can realize frameless display.
In addition, since it is difficult for light to change the optical path inside the second edge display area 94 or the first edge display area 92, light can only vertically pass through the first edge display area 92 for display, and therefore, in order to enable light of the second edge display area 94 to be smoothly guided into the first edge display area 92, as shown in fig. 1, the projection of the second center display area 93 and the second edge display area 94 on the plane where the first display panel 1 is located within the first center display area 91, so that there is no shielding below the second edge display area 94, and under the action of the optical module 3, light emitted by the second edge display area 94 can only completely enter the first edge display area 92 from bottom to top.
The display panel of the embodiment can realize the frameless display of the first display panel 1, has no light loss, and ensures the picture quality of the first display panel. Meanwhile, the display panel can simultaneously display different pictures as a double-sided display panel, double-sided display and frameless display are combined into a whole, and the functions of the display panel are greatly improved.
The first display panel 1 of the present embodiment may be a front display panel, and correspondingly, the second display panel 2 may be a rear display panel. Of course, the first display panel 1 may also be a back display panel, and the corresponding second display panel 2 is a front display panel, which is not limited in the present invention.
The following describes the double-sided display panel of the present embodiment in detail, taking the first display panel 1 as a front surface and the second display panel 2 as a rear surface as an example:
referring to fig. 1, the first display panel 1 includes a first backlight module 11, a first array substrate 12, a first liquid crystal layer 13, and a first color film substrate 14, which are sequentially stacked from bottom to top. The first backlight module 11 and the first liquid crystal layer 13 are both only located in the first central display area 91; the first array substrate 12 includes a display region located in the first central display region 91 and a transparent border region located in the first edge display region 92; the first color film substrate 14 is located in the first central display area 91 and the first edge display area 92, and a portion of the first color film substrate 14 in the first edge display area 92 is bonded to the frame area of the first array substrate 12 by the frame sealing adhesive 15. Thus, the first central display area 91 has a complete liquid crystal display structure and can emit light normally under the control of the control unit. The first edge display region 92 only has the transparent frame region, the transparent frame sealing adhesive 15 and the color film substrate in the vertical direction, and cannot emit light autonomously. The transmittance of the common frame sealing glue 15 is generally greater than 90%, and in order to make the frameless display further perfect, transparent frame sealing glue can be adopted, so that the transmittance is further improved. The transparent frame region of the first array substrate 12 may be used for transmitting light, and may also be used for arranging a peripheral circuit of the first array substrate 12, where the peripheral circuit uses nano silver wires, and the nano silver wires have low resistance, very high conductivity, little obstruction to light, and very high light transmittance.
The second display panel 2 at least includes a second backlight module 21, a second array substrate 22 and a second liquid crystal layer 23, which are sequentially stacked from top to bottom, and the second backlight module 21, the second array substrate 22 and the second liquid crystal layer 23 are all simultaneously distributed in a second central display area 93 and a second edge display area 94, that is, the second central display area 93 and the second edge display area 94 both have a complete liquid crystal display structure and can independently emit light normally. In the present embodiment, the second edge display area 94 is not provided with a color film layer, and only displays a black-and-white picture, but after the light emitted by the second edge display area is guided into the first edge display area 92 through the optical module 3, the first edge display area 92 still displays a color picture because of the color film layer, so as to ensure the display synchronization with the first central display area 91. Of course, in other embodiments, the second edge display area 94 may also be provided with a color film layer, and the color light may also be guided into the transparent first edge display area 92, so that the first display panel 1 can display a desired color picture. The second central display area 93 may be provided with a color film layer to display a color picture, or may be provided with no color film layer to display a black-and-white picture, which is not limited in the present invention.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the optical module 3 may be a reflection unit, disposed on the light emitting side of the second edge display area 94, and configured to reflect the light emitted from the second edge display area 94 to the first edge display area 92, so that the first edge display area 92 and the first central display area 91 jointly display the first image.
Specifically, as shown in fig. 1, the reflection unit includes a first reflection surface 31 and a second reflection surface 32 that are perpendicular to each other, the first reflection surface 31 is located on the light emitting side of the second edge display area 94 and faces the second edge display area 94, the second reflection surface 32 is also located on the light emitting side of the second edge display area 94, and is horizontally disposed with the first reflection surface 31 and faces the first edge display area 92, and meanwhile, the distance between the first reflection surface 31 and the second reflection surface 32 along the light emitting direction of the second edge display area 94 gradually decreases. The first light reflecting surface 31 is used for reflecting the light emitted from the second edge display area 94 to the second light reflecting surface 32, and the second light reflecting surface 32 is used for reflecting the light reflected from the first light reflecting surface 31 to the first edge display area 92, so that the vertically downward light emitted from the second edge display area 94 can be reflected vertically upward to the first edge display area 92.
In the present embodiment, referring to fig. 2, the first light reflecting surface 31 and the second light reflecting surface 32 each employ a right-angle prism 6, and the reflecting surfaces of the two prisms 6 are disposed opposite to each other. The prism has high reflectivity and low cost, can realize the best reflection effect, and is easy to install and fix. The two prisms 6 may be fixed to other structures of the display device on which the display panel is disposed, as long as they can form a stable light reflection path. In other embodiments, the first reflective surface 31 and the second reflective surface 32 may have other structures, such as reflective sheets, mirrors, etc., which are not listed here.
In another embodiment of the present invention, referring to fig. 3, the optical module 3 may further include a light guide fiber bundle 7 capable of transmitting light from one end to the other end, so that the light guide fiber bundle 7 includes a first end and a second end, the first end is connected to the second edge display area 94, the second end is connected to the first array substrate 12, and the light emitted from the second edge display area 94 is transmitted to the first edge display area 92, so that the first edge display area 92 and the first central display area 91 jointly display the first image.
Specifically, referring to fig. 4, the optical module 3 further includes a first transparent substrate 72 and a second transparent substrate 73, and the first end of the light guide fiber bundle 7 is connected to the first transparent substrate 72. The transparent substrate may be a glass plate or other transparent materials, and the transparent substrate is used as an auxiliary bonding structure to fix the light guide fiber bundle 7 on the first display panel 1 and the second display panel 2, and the transmission path of light is not affected. The specific connection method between the optical fiber bundle 7 and the transparent substrate may be a hot-melt method, a cold-melt method, or the like. Then, the first transparent substrate 72 is bonded to the second liquid crystal layer 23 of the second edge display region 94 by the frame sealing adhesive 15, and the second substrate is bonded to the transparent frame region of the first edge display region 92 by the frame sealing adhesive 15, so that the light of the second edge display region 94 enters the first edge display region 92 through the light guide fiber bundle 7 and is transmitted to the color film layer from bottom to top to display a color picture.
In this embodiment, the light guide fiber bundle 7 includes a plurality of light guide fibers 71, each light guide fiber 71 connects a pair of sub-pixels corresponding to the second edge display area 94 and the first edge display area 92, that is, each light guide fiber 71 only transmits light of one sub-pixel, so that the problem of color cross in the same light guide fiber 71 is not easily caused, and each sub-pixel of the first edge display area 92 can accurately receive light of the sub-pixel corresponding to the second edge display area 94. Of course, the light emitted by the same sub-pixel can also be conducted through a plurality of light guide fibers, so that the light loss can be avoided, and the problem of color cross in the same light guide fiber is also solved. For the light guide fiber with the light transmission path completely consistent with the bending shape of the light guide fiber and without light cross color, one light guide fiber can be used for simultaneously transmitting the light of a plurality of sub-pixels. The diameter of the light guide fiber is generally in the range of several micrometers to tens of micrometers, and the light guide fiber can be specifically selected by taking the requirements of the size, the structure and the resolution of the sub-pixel as examples, which is not limited in the invention.
In general, the resolutions of the first display panel 1 and the second display panel 2 are equal, that is, the resolutions of the second edge display area 94 and the first edge display area 92 are equal, and the areas of the second edge display area 94 and the first edge display area 92 are equal, so that the reflected light can be completely received and displayed. In other embodiments, if the resolutions of the first display panel 1 and the second display panel 2 are not equal, the specific structure of the reflection unit or the light guide fiber bundle 7 needs to be designed according to the resolutions to ensure that the light can be completely received and displayed, which is not described in detail herein.
The embodiment of the present invention further provides a control method for a dual-sided display panel, for controlling the image display of the dual-sided display panel of the above embodiment, the control method includes:
the first central display area 91 and the second edge display area 94 are controlled to emit light so that the first central display area 91 and the first edge display area 92 collectively display a first screen.
The second central display area 93 is controlled to emit light so that the second central display area 93 displays a second screen.
Specifically, the control unit of the display panel may include a first control unit configured to control the first central display area 91 and the second edge display area 94 to emit light so that the first central display area 91 and the first edge display area 92 collectively display a first screen, and a second control unit configured to control the second central display area 93 to emit light so that the second central display area 93 displays a second screen. That is, the display of the second central display area 93 is controlled by the second control unit, the display of the second edge display area 94 is controlled by the first control unit, the display of the first central display area 91 is controlled by the first control unit, and the display of the first edge display area 92 is transmitted from the second edge display area 94.
Embodiments of the present invention further provide a display device, including the dual-sided display panel in the above embodiments. The display panel can be used for various display devices such as mobile phones, tablet computers, electronic books, billboards and the like, can realize double-sided display and frameless display, ensures the picture quality of frameless display, and greatly improves the display effect of the display device.
In the above description, the liquid crystal display panel is taken as an example, and in another embodiment of the present invention, both the first display panel and the second display panel of the double-sided display panel may be organic electroluminescence display panels. Specifically, the first central display region of the first display panel corresponds to a conventional organic electroluminescent display region, and can independently emit light. The first edge display region corresponds to the bezel region, does not include an organic functional layer for emitting light, includes only the transparent substrate (and a peripheral circuit disposed on the transparent substrate), and cannot emit light. The second central display area and the second edge display area of the second display panel are both conventional display areas and can independently emit light. Similarly, the optical module can be used to transmit all the light emitted from the second edge display area to the first edge display area, so that the first edge display area and the first central display area synchronously display the first picture.
In addition, according to the type of the organic electroluminescent display panel, the organic electroluminescent display panel can be an OLED display panel emitting color light, and can also be a display panel of which a white light emitting OLED is matched with a color film layer. Similar to the principle of the double-sided liquid crystal display panel in the above embodiment, those skilled in the art know how to combine the optical module and the functional layer of the organic electroluminescent display panel, and the detailed structure is not described herein again. Meanwhile, for a double-sided display panel with both sides being organic electroluminescent display panels, the control method is similar to the principle of the double-sided liquid crystal display panel, and the description is omitted here.
