Description

Mounting structure of end cover
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a mounting structure of an end cover that covers a tail pipe extending outward from a muffler rear end portion of a muffler of a vehicle.
Background
Japanese patent laid-open publication No. 5850816 discloses that a head cover is attached to a rear end portion of a muffler of a vehicle, and a tail pipe extending rearward of the vehicle from the rear end portion of the muffler is covered with a head cover by fixing the head cover to a female screw provided in a boss portion of the head cover via a fastening member.
In addition, when thermal expansion, vibration, or the like of the muffler and the tail pipe is taken into consideration, it is preferable to dispose the end cover with a certain gap provided between the muffler and the end cover. Japanese patent application No. 5850816 discloses that a tail pipe extending from a rear end portion of a muffler is inserted into a hole formed in a head support when viewed from the rear of a vehicle, and a space between an inner wall of the head support in which the hole is formed and the tail pipe is a gap.
Disclosure of Invention
However, when the muffler and the tail pipe thermally expand or vibrate, the gap tends to shift.
The end cap is provided with an opening for inserting a tail pipe inserted through the hole of the end cap support. Therefore, if the opening portion is enlarged in accordance with the deviation of the gap, the rear end portion of the muffler is seen through the opening portion and the gap when viewed from the rear of the vehicle, which causes a problem of a poor appearance.
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a mounting structure of an end cover that can maintain the appearance even when thermal expansion, vibration, or the like occurs in a muffler and a tail pipe.
The present invention provides a mounting structure of an end cap which is disposed at a muffler rear end portion of a muffler connected to an exhaust pipe of a vehicle and covers a tail pipe extending outward from the muffler rear end portion, and the mounting structure has the following features.
A first feature: an end cover support member to which the end cover is attached is provided to a portion of the tail pipe extending outward from the muffler rear end portion.
The second characteristic: at least a part of the head cover support is provided to the tail pipe so as to abut against an outer peripheral surface of the tail pipe.
The third characteristic: the head cover is provided with an opening portion through which the tail pipe is inserted, and the head cover support is provided in a space between the opening portion and the tail pipe when viewed from the rear of the vehicle.
A fourth feature: the end cover is attached to the end cover support member with a gap from the rear end of the muffler.
According to the first feature of the present invention, the end cover is directly attached to a portion of the tail pipe extending outward from the muffler rear end portion. Accordingly, when the muffler and the tail pipe thermally expand, vibrate, or the like, the head cover attached to the head cover support vibrates together with the muffler and the tail pipe. Therefore, it is not necessary to provide a certain clearance between the tail pipe and the head support when viewed from the rear of the vehicle. As a result, the muffler and the periphery of the end cover can be easily designed and assembled, and the appearance can be maintained even when the muffler and the tail pipe thermally expand or vibrate.
According to the second feature of the present invention, the end cover support can be easily and reliably attached to the tail pipe.
According to the third feature of the present invention, the muffler rear end portion is hidden by covering the space with the end cover support, and therefore, the appearance can be maintained simply and easily.
According to the fourth aspect of the present invention, even when the end cover is displaced from the muffler rear end portion due to thermal expansion, vibration, or the like of the muffler and the tail pipe, the displacement can be absorbed by the gap.
The above objects, features and advantages will be readily understood from the following description of the embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[ schematic Structure of two-wheeled Motor vehicle 12 ]
Fig. 1 is a right side view of a main portion of a motorcycle 12 as a vehicle to which an attachment structure of an end cap 10 according to the present embodiment (hereinafter also referred to as an attachment structure according to the present embodiment) is applied. The motorcycle 12 is a straddle-type vehicle in which a driver straddles a seat 14. In the present description, the center of the periphery of the end cover 10 in the motorcycle 12 will be described, and the other portions will not be shown or will be briefly shown. In the description of the present embodiment, the front-rear, left-right, and up-down directions will be described as viewed from the driver seated in the seat 14.
In the motorcycle 12, an internal combustion engine 20 suspended from a vehicle body frame, not shown, is disposed behind a front wheel steering direction portion 18 that steerably supports a front wheel 16. The internal combustion engine 20 is suspended in the vehicle body in a posture in which a crankshaft, not shown, is directed in the vehicle width direction and the cylinder tube is slightly tilted forward and raised. The crankshaft is housed in the crankcase 22, and a cylinder block 24 and a cylinder head 26 are disposed in this order in the crankcase 22 obliquely above the crankcase 22. A cylinder head cover 28 covers an upper end of the cylinder head 26.
An exhaust pipe 32 is connected to an exhaust port 30 in the front surface of the cylinder head 26. The exhaust pipe 32 extends downward from the cylinder head 26, further extends rearward, and extends rearward below the internal combustion engine 20. A muffler 36 extending obliquely upward rearward from the right side of the rear wheel 34 is connected to the rear end of the exhaust pipe 32. The end cap 10 is disposed at a muffler rear end portion 38 of the muffler 36 on the side opposite to the exhaust pipe 32.
[ description of mounting Structure ]
Next, the mounting structure according to the present embodiment will be described with reference to fig. 1 to 5.
The two tail pipes 40, 42 extend obliquely upward from the muffler rear end portion 38 rearward (outward of the motorcycle 12). As shown in fig. 4 and 5, one tail pipe 40 passes through the interior of the muffler 36, passes through a portion above the muffler rear end portion 38, and extends obliquely rearward and upward substantially in parallel with an axis 43 passing through the center of the muffler 36. The other tail pipe 42 passes through the interior of the muffler 36, passes through a portion below the muffler rear end portion 38, and extends rearward and obliquely upward substantially in parallel with the axis line 43.
The end cover 10 covers the portions of the two tail pipes 40 and 42 extending rearward from the muffler rear end portion 38, and is disposed substantially coaxially with the axis 43 at the muffler rear end portion 38 with a certain clearance CL from the muffler rear end portion 38, as shown in fig. 1, 4, and 5.
Specifically, an end cover support 46 for fixing the end cover 10 is attached to portions of the two tail pipes 40 and 42 extending rearward from the muffler rear end 38.
As shown in fig. 3 to 5, at least a part of the head support 46 is fixed to the tail pipes 40 and 42 so as to abut against the entire outer peripheral surfaces of the two tail pipes 40 and 42. That is, the head support 46 has a flat portion 46a and three leg portions 46b, wherein the flat portion 46a is disposed substantially coaxially with the axis 43 by being directly fixed to the outer peripheral surfaces of the two tail pipes 40, 42; three leg portions 46b extend radially from the planar portion 46 a.
The flat surface portion 46a is a flat plate-shaped member having two holes formed therein, and is directly fixed to the outer peripheral surfaces of the two tail pipes 40 and 42 by, for example, welding in a state where the two tail pipes 40 and 42 are inserted through the two holes and are in contact with the entire outer peripheral surfaces of the tail pipes 40 and 42.
The three leg portions 46b are provided radially at predetermined angular intervals on the flat surface portion 46a in a rear view of fig. 3 (a rear view of the motorcycle 12 viewed from a rear side of the axis line 43), and extend so as to curve obliquely forward from the flat surface portion 46a as shown in fig. 3 and 4. A projection 46c is formed on the inner side of the portion of each leg 46b that is bent obliquely forward, and a female screw is formed on each projection 46 c.
As shown in fig. 1, 2, 4 and 5, the end cap 10 has a front end portion 48, an inclined portion 50 and a rear end portion 52, wherein the front end portion 48 has substantially the same outer diameter as the muffler 36; the diameter of the inclined portion 50 gradually decreases from the front end portion 48 to the rear; the rear end portion 52 is connected to the rear of the inclined portion 50.
In the inclined portion 50, recesses 54 slightly recessed toward the end cover holder 46 are formed at portions corresponding to the three leg portions 46b and the projecting portions 46c, respectively. Holes are formed in the respective concave portions 54. Fastening members 56 having male screws are inserted through the holes, respectively, and the fastening members 56 are screwed with the female screws of the bosses 46c, respectively, so that the end cover 10 is attached to the end cover holder 46 substantially coaxially with the axis 43 with a certain clearance CL between the muffler rear end portion 38 and the front end portion 48. Further, if the bent portion of each leg 46b is bent so as to follow the inner wall of the inclined portion 50, the end cap 10 can be appropriately attached to the end cap support 46.
The rear end portion 52 is recessed forward toward the flat surface portion 46a of the end cap support 46 to form a circular plate portion 58 shown in fig. 2. An oval opening 60 is formed in the disk portion 58 in the vertical direction. As shown in fig. 2, 4 and 5, the two tail pipes 40 and 42 are inserted into the opening 60 and extend obliquely rearward. In this case, the flat surface portion 46a of the end cap support 46 is disposed so as to close the space between the opening 60 and the tail pipes 40 and 42 when viewed from the rear side of fig. 2.
[ Effect of the present embodiment ]
As described above, according to the mounting structure of the present embodiment, the end cover support 46 is provided at the portion of each of the tail pipes 40 and 42 extending rearward from the muffler rear end portion 38, and the end cover 10 is mounted on the end cover support 46. That is, in this mounting structure, the head support 46 is directly attached to the tail pipes 40, 42 at the portion extending rearward from the muffler rear end 38.
Accordingly, when the muffler 36 and the tail pipes 40 and 42 thermally expand and vibrate, the head cover 10 attached to the head cover support 46 vibrates together with the muffler 36 and the tail pipes 40 and 42. Therefore, as shown in the rear view of fig. 2, it is not necessary to provide a certain gap between each tail pipe 40, 42 and the end cover support 46. As a result, the design and assembly around the muffler 36 and the end cover 10 are facilitated, and the appearance can be maintained even when the muffler 36 and the tail pipes 40 and 42 thermally expand or vibrate.
Further, since at least a part of the cap support 46 is provided on the tail pipes 40 and 42 so as to abut on the entire outer peripheral surfaces of the tail pipes 40 and 42, the cap support 46 can be easily and reliably attached to the tail pipes 40 and 42.
The end cap 10 is formed with an opening 60 for inserting the tail pipes 40 and 42 therethrough, and a flat surface portion 46a of the end cap support 46 is provided in a space between the opening 60 and the tail pipes 40 and 42 as viewed from the back of fig. 2. In this way, when the space is covered with the flat surface portion 46a, the muffler rear end portion 38 is hidden, and therefore, the appearance can be maintained easily and easily.
Further, as shown in fig. 1, 4, and 5, since the end cover 10 is attached to the end cover holder 46 with the clearance CL from the muffler rear end portion 38, even when the end cover 10 is displaced from the muffler rear end portion 38 due to thermal expansion, vibration, or the like of the muffler 36 and the tail pipes 40 and 42, the displacement can be absorbed by the clearance CL.
The present invention has been described above with reference to preferred embodiments, but the technical scope of the present invention is not limited to the description of the above embodiments. It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications can be made in the above embodiments. The embodiments to which such changes and improvements can be clearly applied are also included in the technical scope of the present invention according to the description of the claims. In the claims, the numerals in parentheses are provided for the sake of easy understanding of the present invention and are not intended to limit the present invention to the components denoted by the numerals.
